What would you change about Lana's albums/eras?

Recommended Posts

Without You should've been the closing track of BTD and I think Lana shares this opinion, actually.

I think that TIWMUG is better, but Without You would also be great.

I just find WY a bit on the generic side. I love how TIWMUG tells the story of Lana's life.

i am nothing and should be everything

As it's been said before, I would have Paradise as a full LP with the outtakes, instead of just an EP. I also wouldn't end it with Burning Desire; I'd have that earlier in the tracklist and end with Bel Air instead.

I'm kind of building on my first Paradise LP version and I thought of including Tropico to it. It sounds even more smooth and countinuous from the end of Lucky Ones from BTD. I call it 'Paradise - Tropico Edition' or 'Tropico In Paradise'.

1. Intro

2. Body Electric

3. I Sing The Body Electric

4. Ride

5. Angels Forever

6. Starry Eyed

7. JFK

8. Hollywood

9. Blue Velvet

10. Bel Air

11. America - Why I Love Her

12. Gods and Monsters

13. Paradise Lost

14. Burning Desire

15. Cola

16. American

17. Yayo

18. Tropico Score

I believe this would be a perfect bridge into the Ultraviolence era, since Cruel World is really long it could work after Yayo+Tropico Score without dragging along too long.

That's a tough question.  I'm not the artist.  Its like asking what you would change in Picasso's art.  I pretty much accept what she has given us.  Really, all of her released songs I like.  I know conceptually, everything she does is an art project, so it all matters.  Changing the art means changing her.  I like how she has been evolving as an artist.

To the question though, there is a lot of really good unrealeased stuff.  I am grateful that she has let it all live on YouTube and not pulled it down for copyright infringement.  It's unlikely that any off that stuff will ever be officially released since she has moved on past it all, but it would have been cool to see what well produced versions of those songs could have been like.  There is like three albums worth of really good material out there.  Its what's kept me going between Paradise and Ultraviolence.  Assuming there is another album past UV, we are probably looking at 2016 for the next release.  The time between UV and whatever comes next will be a very long wait.

Watch what you say to me, Careful who you're talkin' to.

I'd keep the artwork/title/etc. of Paradise but I'd change the tracklist to be:

1.) Ride

2.) Hollywood

3.) Gods and Monsters

4.) Body Electric

5.) Cola

6.) Blue Velvet

7.) Bel Air

8.) LDR AKA LG version of Yayo

9.) Angels Forever

Angels Forever would kill as a closer once it looped back around to Ride.

For Born to Die I would have used the demo of DMD, taken out Dark Paradise, ended the album with On Our Way because that would transition perfectly to Paradise. Also trade Serial Killer for either TIWMUG or Radio. Get Drunk for Lolita and Jump for Lucky Ones.

Goddesses don't speak in whispers. They scream.

I don't know if it's the production, the instrumentation, Lana's singing style or whatever but Paradise is not good to me. I'm not sure what kind of sound they were trying to achieve but, in my opinion, it wouldn't have changed anything if she didn't release it. The only songs I genuinely enjoy are Cola and Bel Air (Body Electric, too, but only the live version). And I hate the cover, her face is overly photoshopped and looks deformed.
