Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread
ParadiseFreak replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
No, it says "from the upcoming SUBLIME DOCUMENTARY soundtrack" and then at the very bottom it says "Album out later this year!" meaning NFR, unrelated to the single. -
Honeymoon. The song felt overly slow, and self-indulgent when I first heard it. In fact, the whole album of Honeymoon took me at least a year to realize it's one of her best albums. Now i'd probably put it above Ultraviolence, at least production-wise. I love the sounds on Honeymoon a lot more than the muddy-sounding Ultraviolence (other than West Coast, and the bonus tracks Florida Kilos, Black Beauty etc). Side note - I'm generally a fan of Dan Auerbach's production, but I kinda think he's to blame for the muddy sound of most of Ultraviolence. Would love to hear the original demos/album she had before Dan got involved. I'm sure it had a cleaner sound, and maybe more hip hop beats.

Dublin, Ireland @ Malahide Castle - June 22, 2019
ParadiseFreak replied to nationalxanthem's topic in 2019 Performances
Obviously there's vocals on the tracks, as she generally only sings half the words these days - but there's "applause" on the tracks too??!! Is that confirmed? What's that about? -
Two observations: kinda looks like she's got her Lizzy Grant lips back. And what's with her "trust no one" tattoo looking like it's smudging? Pretty photo though. Always down for some Lana selfies in my feed.

Well said. Lana "playing with artifice" and Lana being "occasionally brilliant" have never been mutually exclusive ideas, and that's why I still stan even though it's been a rough few years as a fan. And bonus points for the "Vertigo" reference. Would love to see her reference Vertigo in a music video sometime. -
Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
ParadiseFreak replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
At 16 songs, the album gets really weighed down by the weaker ones. I made a 10 song playlist of my favorite songs from it, and I realized there was a great album hidden within Lust for Life. Here's my 10-song "perfect album" version: 1. 13 Beaches 2. Cherry 3. White Mustang 4. Summer Bummer 5. Groupie Love 6. In My Feelings 7. Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems 8. Heroin 9. Change 10. Get Free -
My take on it is that she's holding off the album because she doesn't wanna deal with the promotional grind. Touring, interviews, videos, etc. It's like she's basically trying to figure out how to have her cake and eat it too. If she could put the album out and not be expected to jump through all those hoops, I'm sure she would. But maybe she's waiting til she feels like she can handle all the responsibilities that go with promoting an album. Like someone said earlier, if it wasn't for the Gucci campaign, we wouldn't have any of this era's interviews.

I saw the thing you are referencing with Dave Grohl "trashing" Lana. It was something to do with one of his kids wanted a Lana record, and he talked them into getting AC/DC instead. He didn't say anything explicitly bad about Lana, but he basically lumped her in with "garbage pop" and not "real music" like AC/DC or whatever the other band was. -
BTD: Dark Paradise, This is What Makes Us Girls, Without You, Lolita Paradise: Yayo UV: Brooklyn Baby, Guns of Roses HM: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood LFL: Coachella, God Bless America, When the World Was at War

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread
ParadiseFreak replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
I only try to write on this thread when there's something positive to add. Here's a couple things. Lana has put more music out over the last 8 years than most artists, with something new every year. As many fans of hers from the beginning, I've liked each record since the Born to Die/Paradise/Tropico era a little less each time. Ultraviolence had to grow on me, but I love it now. Honeymoon was a slow burn, but I also love it now. I love about half of Lust for Life, and I don't see that changing much. And I can't say I love any of the three new single. BUT - it does seem like Lana's got a whole new vibe/journey happening... so maybe these little breaks from social media content will give her a chance to reconnect with her muse and have her bringing us her best music yet. As much as I would love a new album ASAP - the girl's done a lot of work over the last decade and deserves all the time she needs to bring us another masterpiece. Her quote about Lust for Life being "for the fans" couldn't have been more true. Half those songs felt like they were written just to be sing-a-longs at the concerts. I'm ready for another deep album. It doesn't have to be dark like Paradise or Honeymoon, but I don't need any more of her broad social statement songs. Anyways... this got kind of rambly. My main point is - I'm hoping this silence will lead to her best music yet. But either way, she deserves a break from all us stans if she needs it. -

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Here's one - admittedly very optimistic - perspective. Traditionally the first quarter of the year (January - March) is when the industry releases films and albums that they don't believe have award potential. By summer and especially fall (June through November), you will normally see releases that the industry really believes in. Maybe her label or management see this record being a major Grammy nominee? Who knows if this is what they are thinking, but I'm trying to come up with explanations for her suddenly getting so cold on social media about this album - after steadily hyping it all fall. -
Lana clearly is a big coffee drinker. It got me wondering how she likes her coffee. Black? Doubt it. Cream and sugar? Maybe. Or something fancy like a white chocolate moca or those foamy frappa-whatevers. With how much she drinks coffee, I'm gonna assume she likes it pretty simple. Real coffee drinkers (like myself) don't mess around with all the added garbage. But I'm curious if any of y'all know her order? Has it come up in any interviews/articles? I've never seen it mentioned - but I know there are some TRUE stans around here!

I agree. Totally anti-climactic. Because the song is not really a single, there's no energy behind it from her label or team, or even Lana. it's like a self-released song. There's moments in each song that I like, but I haven't loved any of these 3 NFR songs yet. -
Will you ever stop stanning Lana?
ParadiseFreak replied to Kurac na Biciklu's topic in Lana Thoughts
That's a great question. Lana's first 3 albums (BTD, Paradise, and UV) had such a big impact on me, but with Honeymoon and Lust For Life, I found myself really trying to love them, but other than 3-4 songs on each, I never really connected with them. I'm not really digging these two new singles either, so I'm really hoping the new album will bring back the masterpiece vibes from her early stuff, otherwise, she'll probably eventually just be an artist that I used to really love... and I'll stop really caring what she puts out next. It's sad, really. I'm rooting for her, but it seems like she's on a different wavelength now, and it may be no turning back. We'll see! -
"you're in the yard, i light the fire" from Venice Bitch is also probably referencing CSNY's Our House. "I'll light the fire, you put the flowers In the vase that you bought today Staring at the fire for hours and hours while I listen to you Play your love songs all night long for me, only for me" She's been talking about capturing a "Laurel Canyon" vibe for years... and referencing CSNY is certainly a way of doing that.

the "two cats in the yard" line is a reference to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's, "Our House" "Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard Life used to be so hard Now everything is easy 'cause of you"

Things You Know Lana Won't Do
ParadiseFreak replied to Make me your Dream Life's topic in Lana Thoughts
I hope it's not true, but it seems like she won't make any more epic BTD/Paradise/Tropico type music videos. Would love to see a thematic music video project (ala Tropico) for the next album! -
@ They have one important detail wrong though: "For the EP, Del Rey worked with three main producers; Justin Parker, Rick Nowels, & Rick Rubin, all of whom had previously worked with her on Born to Die." http://lanadelrey.wikia.com/wiki/Paradise_(EP) She hadn't worked with Rick on BTD, or anything before or since, "Ride," as they show on their page specifically for Rick Rubin. http://lanadelrey.wikia.com/wiki/Rick_Rubin
