Anyone else stream Chemtrails for a couple days and then never return to it? I really wanna like Lana's new stuff... but something fundamental has changed with her since Lust for Life. Maybe it's all Jack? Hard to know. I respect that artists need to change and grow, but this shift is such a bummer for me coz early Lana was my favorite music of the decade.

"Unpopular opinions" seems like the right thread for this random thought. The good songs on Lust for Life are better than the good songs on NFR and COCC. Anyone agree? In My Feelings and Heroin alone are stronger than anything on the last two albums for me. The only songs I really like on NFR are the title-track, FIILY and The Greatest (and I kinda hate to admit Doin' Time is a highlight too), and I'll save my song picks from COCC til it's released, but again there's only 3 or 4 I really dig - but none of these from either album are as strong as Heroin or In My Feelings.

There is no accounting for taste. Paradise was a peak that has yet to be topped. Cola, Gods & Monsters, Ride, Body Electric. Peak Lana. I love UV and HM a lot, but Paradise is right up there with them - and as a stand-alone body of work, I'd take it over BTD any day. But I agree that NFR is "boring and forgettable" though. Every few months I decide I should give it another chance and don't make it past a couple songs before giving up again.

Talking only about the album covers, not the music. 1. Born to Die - iconic 2. Ultraviolence - iconic 3. Lust for Life - the way she changes her persona with the smile, but returns to the general aesthetic of her early albums 4. Norman Fucking Rockwell! - iconic, although it's a bit of a mess with the fonts/pop art graphics 5. Paradise - bad photoshop work (have you seen the original photo it was based on?), but it kept the general vibe from BTD going, so kudos to that 6. Honeymoon - Never liked this photo or fonts, etc. Feels cheap and doesn't match the sound of the music to me at all 7. Chemtrails Over the Country Club - this one might be tied with Honeymoon for me, and may end up aging better. But fonts are weak, and the photo composition and/or lackthereof, and overall darkness of the image, makes it "pop" less than any of her previous covers.

i would say it's her narcissism that keeps getting her in trouble. That's what makes her double down, putting her foot further into her mouth each time this issue flares up. "They mistook my narcissism for racism I fucked up, I know that, but, Jesus Can't a girl just do the best she can?"

4 songs from Honeymoon (Swan Song, Blackest Day, Art Deco, and 24) were the only Lana to make my top songs this year. Mostly it just showed me how addicted to Dolour's "The Royal We" I was. Hoping Chemtrails brings back my passion for Lana. The re-darkened hair is a good step forward

Is there already a thread about the Lana deepfakes out there? There's quite a few decent ones making the rounds. Wish there was more

As much as I'm doubtful that we'll get a Sept 5th release, as Lana's history with release dates is spotty to say the least, I am glad we're not being teased for over a year with singles the way she did with NFR. If she drops a single or two between now and September, I'd be fine... but that NFR pre-release era wore me out by the time the album finally dropped. This time the album will feel a lot more fresh and surprising.

Excuse me if someone already mentioned this... but in all this Kanye talk I'm not seeing anyone mention that Lana actually performed at Kanye and Kim's wedding. Lana was Kim's favorite artist at the time. So when Lana called out Kanye, she knew him relatively well going back to his wedding. But he was/is an important figure that she saw misleading "the culture" (as she always likes to put it) with his MAGA hats and Trump support.

She just reposted the first video and deleted the rest.

While I agree with your guesswork, and I don't doubt that Lana believes she is telling her truth - her very own Spotify bio tells a different story: "Born as Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in New York City to a pair of wealthy parents..." LOL. I wouldn't be surprised if she'd never read her own bio before. But that's pretty funny. That same Spotify bio also mentions her "crafting the Lana Del Rey persona." She really needs to get her team on that.

Also - it appears that she's working with Jack again, so I would probably rule out Ultraviolence 2.0 I am super glad though that she seems to be implying some sort of return to her earlier music, even if it's just lyrically. As someone who saw Paradise/Tropico/Ultraviolence/Honeymoon as one of the greatest artistic runs of any artist of the last 60 years... I am here for this.

Just some random thoughts... Do you think there's any chance her Sept 5th date (which is a Saturday btw) won't be delayed. I would love to see this happen, but after years of her throwing dates that ended up not meaning anything, I just don't have high hopes. Plus that date, coming 6 days after the cut off date for Grammy eligibility, either means she's completely given up on winning a Grammy, or doesn't think this album is Grammy material. Of course, she also could have just forgotten what the cut off date was, I remember reading an interview about NFR where the interviewer told her she released the album on the Grammy cut off date, and Lana had no idea. It could still be eligible for a Grammy in 2022, but to release right after the cut off date usually would imply you are taking your album out of the running.

Could your first 5 shuffled Lana songs convert a newbie to a fan?
ParadiseFreak replied to daphnedinkley's topic in Games
1. Sad Girl 2. 13 Beaches 3. Cola 4. Fuck it I love you 5. American a little bit of everything, but "Cola" alone would do the trick for me. -
New Version of NFR to be released January 10th

Doin' Time sampled the intro of Malcolm McLaren's Buffalo Gals. I don't have a physical copy of NFR, do they list this sample in the liner notes? If it's not, then maybe they are just adding that credit to the liner notes, and all the music will remain the same on the reissue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ https://www.whosampled.com/sample/673951/Lana-Del-Rey-Doin%27-Time-Malcolm-McLaren-Buffalo-Gals/ -
sounds like a lot of people here are interpreting "freestyle" to "ad libbing"... I could be wrong, but I understood her to mean freestyle as in "not conforming to a rhyme scheme"... letting her thoughts flow, but not made up on the spot. we'll see. I'd be fine if it was a cappella, but it'd be cool if there was some musical accompaniment.
