Giving Lana "time to promote" is stupid, and you all know it. She isn't promoting anything. Love is just going to sit around for 3 months doing nothing and being forgotten if she doesn't release another single or the album within the next 6 weeks.

I still kind of hope it's a demo tbh... a little more production could make it a little more dreamy.

Also I can't with people saying they don't like the lyrics. Yeah they're not her best, but I'm sure they'll make more sense with the rest of her album. I still don't know wtf "architecture" is supposed to represent but maybe I'm just dumb

    to me:

BTD/PA- Hip-hop inspiration, lots of samples drawing between, orchestral sounds. I'm Poppy. One word that can define this album for me is "overproduced", in a dichotomous manichaeism way
ULTRA- Surf rock from 60's, psychedelic, soft rock. No much fuzz from orchestra. Very stripped back, except some tracks like Old Money and Black Beauty
HONEY- Jazzy, trip-hop (Salvatore beat is obv trip-hop, very Massive Attack), jazz orchestra reminding me Chet Baker stuff. Some inspiration from trap music. A bit of both last albums are in this

So what do you think we can expect from this new record?
  11. floridashore liked a post in a topic by CatchTheBreeze in LDR5 - Pre-Release Thread
Exactly. As I wrote two weeks ago I don't want a 2.0 version of any of her previous works. I'd rather see her taking risks with her music and with her style. But returning to Emile seems to be a step back to the (to my ears) overproduced BTD-era and the autotuned loon is fun on one song. Or two. Maybe three. But not on an entire album. I really like "Love" and "B.A.R." too, both are immediate ear pleasers, but tbh I still hope that the album has a few other sounds on it. For me Lana's best songs are those which I have to dive into to dig them and which, at first listen, I'm not enthusiastic about. There has to be something left to discover for me, even after 20 listens. I just hope that the label didn't push Lana into a safer sound (like Marina was pushed into working with all those "star producers" on "Electra heart") because the label was disappointed with the sales for "Honeymoon".

But ofc it doesn't matter what I (or we all) want, we can't change the album's direction, it will sound as it sounds regardless of our opinions in this forum or elsewhere – so bring on the best american record, Lana!

Rewatched Tropico last night, still give me shivers. For me, her best work.
Hope we can get another short from this era

I agree with you about the whole retro thing. If some stans listened to Ben E King, The Ronettes or Frankie Valli then they wouldn't be saying that. Tbh I didn't like love, it was basic and did not sound retro at all. But B A R is actually pretty good and to my liking.

Totally agree, i don't know why at this point of her career, instead of growing and experimenting new sounds she's pleasing all the teenagers who want to return at BTD era.

My problem with Love / BAR is that it sounds too manufactured.
I mean, I loved Ultraviolence & Honeymoon because they were independant from what people was waiting. It was popy but not easy, it was atypical.
But those two new songs are like syntheses of BTD, PARADISE, UV + HONEYMOON, for some kind of a fan-service strategy. And I deeply don't like it.
As @Constentine says, Emile's samples are too much. It was cool on BTD / P because it was new, but so much years later, it don't feels like before. It's just some kind of uninspired deja-vu gadget.

And in this two new songs I can't aim to localize the sounds. All the previous records was really warm, like seaside, west coasts hot vibes, or some times classy east coast vibes too. But here, it's not warm, but it's not cold. It's just some radio thing. And I can't see anything retro. I mean, a lot of people are saying there's something retro in "Love", but sorry, listen to real retro music, and there's nothing retro in Love. It just sounds like radio versions of LDR songs. Lyrics are really great, and I'm sure the songs could be great as f, but the actual production is really weak, uninspired and unrisky.

I understood why Born To Die was that pop, and heavily produced, but in 2017 I don't understand that whole stepback thing.
BTD and Paradise was uniques at their respective times. We don't need a third segment today.
Hope the whole album will not be like that.

    this is a noisy mess

also Emile needs to keep his stale samples away from Lana.

i honestly don't think the Love mv is one of her best- to me it aesthetically felt like it was all over the place. I don't want to say it's her worst because it's not bad at all, but I can't think of any of lana's mv s that aren't better than it. I actually like HBTB a lot better than Love....    (just my personal opinion!!!)

When she said that this album is going to be for the fans and follow the same sound as Love I got a little disappointed but I still have faith in Lana to deliver something great!

I also don't get why everyone drags Honeymoon? It's a beautiful album- there are so many beautiful songs and as a whole it has a very solid atmosphere to it. Like yeah there's zero bops on it but not everything has to be a bop to be good!

I feel like Honeymoon (the title track) is really emotional, but in a very subtle way. I know and get how people can dismiss it as monotonous, and it's certainly not as immediately striking as, say, Off To The Races or West Coast, but it has its own pull. To me, when I listen to it, there's a lot of things going on at once: sadness, hopefulness, desire, romance, and a little bit of resignation, all mixed in with some dark undercurrents (especially coming from those cinematic strings).
    But that's just me.

love is a really good song, but im hoping that the rest of the upcoming album doesnt sound too similar to it, or similar to any of her past albums

if its gonna be born to die / paradise 2.0 like most people are saying then i dont know how i feel about that since btd has my least favorite production of any lana album... it was way too overly produced, 90% of the songs were repetitive, and there were random yelling noises throughout the whole album. if thats what some people consider "lana becoming more mature" then...

but its not like im gonna unstan her or anything. not every song is gonna be a hit for every person

Honeymoon is my favorite album.. it sounds so mature and I can relate to it so much.. like to me it seems like a big growing point for her. And I also love that it almost has this like Italian vacation feel- especially in Salvatore (duh) and Terrence loves you. It's just such a beautiful and poetic album.

i actually like love, but i can't help but agree with some of this. it doesn't have the certain magic, the je ne sais quoi, that i expect from a lana song. i think it's mostly because the chorus is in the same vocal range as the verses. we know what lana can do with her voice but she plays it safe instead. it doesn't feel dynamic. there are definitely aspects i appreciate about it--its message, more global perspective, and the inspired video are a few--but i can't help but feel it's lacking. when she said that it's representative of the whole album, i felt disappointed.
