I also get what you're saying. And I'm also coming from the viewpoint of someone who is mixed race (european/chinese). It's difficult for mixed race people, especially when we look different enough that we don't look like we are from either culture. I only call myself chinese now because I want to take back that power, as I denied it until I was around 15 due to racist bullying. I obviously never fit in as a white person, so by saying "I'm chinese" at least I can 'belong' somewhere, ygm? But yes I understand that for me, that would not give me the experience of a Chinese woman in a white supremist country, because I had all the same privileges of 'growing up white'. I think this is kinda what you are saying right? But in halseys case she was 100% white passing so that's the difference. Sorry I haven't meant to make this bout me, I'm just trying to use my own experience to relate and see the differences It's complicated but I think listening to what mixed race and black people say gives the right perspective, rather than white people just dismissing her because "I've always thought of her as white". Yeah like everyone just treated it like it was some weird thing like "oh halsey, lol whatchu doin girl" and then forgets because "she finally gets to be with Evan peters!" And then "oh she back with yungblud oh ok." I always found that weird, many red flags. I didn't know the situation went a lot deeper. Ugh if this is true this bothers me so much because in the WM music video she portrays the guy as the one who was pretty much abusive to her (shoving her against the wall and then making her break down). That would be manipulative as fuck to the audience and to Gs image. Even if he's a piece of shit, he doesn't deserve to be shown like that when it was the other way around with physical contact.

While I do find it kinda cringy the way she handled it, I think her experiences growing up with having a black dad and not being treated by others as if she were his daughter are still valid, and would be extremely confusing in the family situation. I really feel for her. I remember the whole 'hotel shampoo is not made for black hair' situation which I thought was ridiculous, but actually does have some basis. I think the way she acts online takes her personality and views to the extremes. It's an unfortunate result of being vocal online with a loud personality. She has every right to be vocal online, even though she does come off as annoying. I'll never dismiss her experiences like that tho. I actually want to believe everything you've said because some of it does make actual sense but like, where are you getting this from?

My actual problem is more with the book signing event itself than the mask. The mask, of course is distasteful AF and she deserves everything that's come for her, but the event itself should have been avoided to begin with. She's so ignorant it's painful.

Regardless what it is, I think she's definitely moving away from the childish component of it and I'm so here for it. I think she'll always have a vintage and very feminine style and I do think lots of people see frilly dresses and think "oh dolly clothes, that's childish" when it's not? That's not what you were saying, I know, but some people actually do have an understanding that limited. I can't wait to see how the themes evolve most of all. I didn't see anything so childish that it was controversial in this EP so she's getting there

I definitely agree that the production is still not very exciting, but the lyrics and vocal delivery are totally there so I have hope. The production might even be less interesting than K-12 but I wasn't expecting a full return so I guess I'm okay with it. Anyway I've forgiven the long wait from album 1 to 2

Does the After School track list order have any significance? Cry baby and K-12 had a specific order for the storytelling, which I always appreciate. But with this EP it's nothing I can pick up right away.

Time for some K-12/After school appreciation bc im over being ungrateful Detention and Highschool Sweethearts are my favourite dance music videos ever. Yes, she did that. Highschool Sweethearts and Strawberry Shortcake are in her best songs. Maybe i just have this opinion because i think they go so well with Cake, which was one of her most underrated. All the After School EP songs add something unique to her discography. I like all the songs for real and with every listen I like them more. Brain & Heart is now my favourite song from her entire discography. It has already helped me make an important decision in my life. I couldn't ever ask for more from an artist tbh The Bakery might actually help some people who are working in a bakery right now because I also know stories of people who have had the shittest hardest time working in one. I don't know why those places can just be so awful and stressful, putting so much pressure on young workers to get out of their social comfort zone while still acting robotic like??? Despite what some people think, I think her aesthetic has definitely evolved. It's actually quite sophisticated, ethereal and luscious now. Crybaby aesthetic, and especially K-12 aesthetic, seem sort of rigid in comparison to what she has now. Yet she has let those old aesthetics grow, not just thrown them out.

Yeah hahaha, it would just suck because on the stylish gloves of your fave artist would be the last place you'd expect to see something triggering Let alone an album cover or the album photoshoot loool let's hope not
