Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Oh wow. Album cover... It looks like a bit of a mess to be honest, but so was this whole era, so it's very fitting in that way. Just excited for the album to drop. That's the real thing. -

hmm. Lana has a strange sense of time. until there is an official release date, I'm not getting my hopes up. "2 months" is too close to "soon" in Lana world -

Lana will post two haikus written in crayon and a #summerbabes photo with her baddies and that's all we're going to get -

this feels very fitting to what the era's been like -
this is hard because it feels like there are so many different Jonis. going on memory right now. Song for Sharon -one of her best in terms of telling a whole vivid story in a song Help Me -one of my favorite pop songs of Joni, but still feels very Joni--also crazy vocal range Refuge of the Roads -a song about independence and taking your own path--very Joni If -rewriting Rudyard Kipling because she didn't agree with/like the writing feels like a very Joni thing to do Paprika Plains -16 minute complex song that really shows her musicianship The Last Time I Saw Richard -one of my favorite songs of hers The Wolf That Lives in Lindsey -strange, experimental. People's Parties -introspective, social observations, and the crazy vocal harmonies. Woodstock -capturing a generational moment and speaking on bigger themes while also keeping it more pop Blue -can't have this list without this song A Case of You -same reason as Blue The Beat of Black Wings -storytelling about the cost of war Twisted -technically she's singing a cover, but I like the way she sings it. Her humor is underestimated I think.

half a decade? Fuck. I did not expect to feel so old today. West Coast will always be my favorite. It was the perfect introduction into the UV era and album. It was so different sound wise for her, but also felt totally like her. I like when artists can surprise in that way.

I'm not a big fan of her personality right now, at least what little of it we've been given this era. But I feel like, give it 6 months and we'll probably get a different personality from her. -
the video is...wow, wasn't expecting that. I've been waiting a while for her to do something like this again.

i think not likely. i don't think her label would let her release the album on a Tuesday -

i forgot ben didn't like the original album cover. that's it. that's what this whole thing has been about. she is being petty as hell and refuses to do anything for the next year because she doesn't like to be told no. i can see the whole scenario of her managers texting and calling and asking about the new cover while she just sits on a lawn chair with her insta friends and takes 5 days to text back a "respect my process please" text while taking another sip of her green matcha whatever drink. -
if you're on a road trip and/or just want like an hour to contemplate things, her whole album Hejira is pretty great for that. Refuge of the Roads/Song for Sharon/Amelia in particular.

lana probably has those same questions when she drives, tbh.

New single: "Doin' Time" (Sublime cover) - OUT NOW
pawn shop blues replied to Say Yes to Heaven's topic in New Releases
love this. Wasn't sure from the snippets, but she really delivered something beautiful. The production feels fresh for her even though it also still sounds like a Lana song (in a good way). The fact that she doesn't change the pronouns, which twists the song into more of a reflection of herself* (or her dual nature)...loved that. *or an instagram baddie friend that pissed her off. that's a possibility, too.- 346 replies

At this point I'm just resigned to the idea we're not getting this album until 2020. I would be (happily) surprised if we get an actual video for Doin Time, though I think the 30 second instagram snippet might actually be it. She has a couple of shows in June and July and can take the rest of the summer off from there. If she wants to be smart, releasing her poetry book in the fall or around the holidays would be a good idea, get more sales. Then, maybe in the start of winter 2020, starts up the promo for NFR (promo meaning like one promo single, maybe a video if we're really lucky, a phone interview with a magazine or radio show, and an Instagram post) and then releases the album. idk, i just get a feeling she wants to kind of take a year off from mostly everything. i don't think she's gone to a studio since NFR or doin time if that was the last thing she made, and she probably wants it that way. If she releases 2020 and maybe does a small tour/festival circuit in spring and summer, that gives her some time to figure out what she wants to do next, if anything. -

Shit. If Lana has a song for the new Maleficent movie in October, we're probably not getting this album until January lol. -

that was when she gave a shit, tho. I don't think it's comparable. I would say if we start seeing her on magazine covers and the focus is squarely on the new album, maybe we can start expecting something in the next couple of months after those come out. Until then, it's instagram baddie photo ops and poems.
