  1. I haven't like consistently followed Nicki's career, but I was surprised by how good this album is. Wasn't sure how it would go based on some of the singles, but this is a really solid album. It goes harder than I expected it to.
  2. eh, art's not like some robotic thing where you just punch in the right codes and you get the album you want. It's a messy process. The recording of the UV version we have was done fairly quickly, but Lana's also stated in other interviews she went through a long dry spell where she was writing songs she didn't like and discarded, not to mention the leak of black beauty which changed things since BB was supposed to be the centerpiece of the album. also, lfl was kind of bound to be slightly all over the place because the US culture shifted so drastically from fall 2015 to summer of 2017. There was a huge shift in conversation and Lana obviously wanted to be part of that, but also wanted to write about more personal things, so the whole album is a little all over the place. At this point though, I think the initial Trump mania "what the hell's happening to this country" has started to die down because of people getting naturally burnt out from all of Trump's chaos and/or people are shifting towards focusing on the midterms, so I don't think Lana taking her time with her next album is going to necessarily bring the same results as LFL. but honestly, who knows.
  3. Was the feat with Marina confirmed? I forget. Between that and the Cat Power song, I have a feeling that's all we're getting for the rest of this year.
  4. inb4 her new album "Lust for Not Doing Drugs" ft. her her singles "I Was at Coachella--and I Definitely Didn't Snort Coke" and "In My (Prescription) Flonase."
  5. Cat generally has very few features on her albums, and they also toured together and seem to be fans of each other's work, so I have a good/hopeful feeling that Cat actually wants Lana to sing on the track and either have her own verse(s) or do a duet-style, trading off thing, instead of just the "sing a few notes in the background" thing she's been doing lately.
  6. holy fuck. Been waiting six years for this.
  7. It was just one of those records that came at the perfect time in my life when I needed something to help make sense of things. There's a lot of pain and confusion, but also hope, but the kind of hope that doesn't sound forced or corny. It made me feel less alone. On another level, the change from less magical songs from her first 2 records and more songs like What Kind of Man, with the hard electric guitars, and Delilah/Which Witch, as well as the softer reverb tracks like Various Storms and Saints, felt similiar to the BTD/UV transition. Like, not what I was expecting as a fan, but it also just made so much sense and was so well suited for her. idk, i just really love when artists are able to change up their sound and keep it fresh without compromising what made them unique.
  8. I have no idea. I'd be interested if she used her metaphysics degree and talked about things like parallel universes or time travel or something kind of trippy in general. I'm not sure how that would work.
  9. "later" is set to become the next word-we-don't-use-around-here-anymore.
  10. Really excited to hear this based on the reviews from fans.
  11. I'd be curious what would happen if she actually put out a definitive statement about her music. Like, I'm taking a break for X amount of months/a year, and then just posted semi-regularly to let her fans online know she is still alive. I was kind of wondering why a Lana release/pre-release feels longer sometimes than a Fiona Apple or Frank Ocean or Adele wait and I think it's because (not that this is some revelation) these artists have kind of made it clear that they aren't constantly going to be releasing new music. And when they do premiere new music and do promo, they just talk about the album they just released. (EDIT: Frank's probably a not great example since I forgot he teased Boys Don't Cry for a long time, but you know what I mean.) Whereas with Lana, the week UV was released, she was already talking about Music To Watch Boys To and describing what that could be like, and then just 6ish months later talked about the sound for what would become Honeymoon (even though her descriptions were kind of far off from how the record actually sounded). And then the week before Honeymoon was released, she was talking to James Franco about how she could definitely see what her next album would be like, and then like three months later was talking to NME about possibly doing a New York-influenced album (or, at least, what that would sound like. She wasn't clear if she was actually making that type of record). And then the same month LFL is released she started talking about doing an unreleased album or maybe an EP with Yosemite and some other tracks or maybe a musical. And of course she never sets a clear date of when, or if, she plans to release any of it, so there's like this constant hype among the stans that are following all of this. In a way, it's a smart move, a way to kind of keep hype around your projects without having to do much promo at all. But it can also send fans into hyperactive mode, constantly feeling like we are on the verge of getting new music (and then getting disappointed, and then having the cycle start all over again). But the second it's released, we're all clamoring for it after waiting so long to hear the finished thing. I don't know what the point of this post is, just speculating about things. I still stand with what I said post-LFL, that I hope she releases a short, cohesive wrapup EP for Yosemite/Bartender/HIAB/etc., does maybe one video and a few shows, and then takes more time to start her next project on a clean slate with fresh experiences. But who knows what will ultimately happen.

    Adele

I'm really interested to see where she goes with her next album. I'm hoping she experiments a little more with her sound. I Miss You was probably my favorite track on 25 just because it sounded like nothing else she has done so far. It's so dark and sultry, but fits her perfectly. I would love an album going in a similiar/unexpected direction.
  13. I don't mean this as any shade to Dua Lipa, but her managers are clearly pushing her harder because she's still relatively new in the game and (again, no meanness intended) has achieved nowhere near the amount of success Lana has. Her (lana's) debut is one of the longest charting albums of all fucking time. She's had 2 albums debut at #1, including her latest. She has a sound and aesthetic that's completely her own and has been able to hold on to that while still evolving. I am sure in the coming years we will see upcoming musicians (if they aren't already) citing her as an influence. She sells shows around the world to screaming fans. There are a lot of other musicians (not naming anyone because it's not that type of post) who probably sell more per album or per show or whatever, but are they really memorable? Have they really made their mark in a way where, when you hear their name, you instantly associate it with a distinctive sound that's their own and not just whatever's current at the moment? To have really made your mark in the music world as an artist, especially in the era where music careers are blossoming and dying faster than ever, is fucking impressive. Lana's doing more than just fine.
  14. My first thought when seeing the new video was those fairies in the Sleeping Beauty cartoon, I don't know why. But that's obviously not the point they are making. The video fits pretty well. Cool to see Florence co-choreographed it.
  15. Happy birthday Lana (not like she's reading this, but still). Well wishes to her.
  16. There's a video I found. General link: https://www.instagram.com/lanascruleworld/?hl=en Not sure who he is, but she goes inside and signs his plane lol.
  17. This is very likely, given the way things always go.
  18. lol I don't even want to comment on this thread. I'm glad to see new pics of her because it makes me happy, but trying to speculate on her mental health based on like 4/5 pics taken prob less than 3 seconds apart is just a mess.
  19. I kinda like it. It's different than what I was expecting. I like the experimentation.
  20. I was expecting a bigger sound probably because of the title, but I like it. It makes me think of the third eye demo just a little bit.
  21. This is the weirdest headline combo lol. I don't really have a reaction to X's death, over than reading the news was the first time I had seen a photograph of him and read his age. For some reason, whenever I heard about him, I always thought he was older, maybe just because of all the crimes and jail time before his passing. The ari cover is nice, but the however-many-day reveal seems a little much in retrospect.
  22. I liked 713, apeshit, lovehappy, and the intro to summer. The rest kind of blended.
