  1. I've been power-streaming L4L for like 8 hours now on the UK hits list and I have to say this song really puts me in a trance. Though it's Lana, so...
  2. They need to cancel that sequel. A TV movie Christmas sequel sounds like a disaster already.
  3. Anyone else feel really surprised by what Lana said, or the general tone/ how she said it? Like, usually in a lot of her interviews, the way she answers questions is so cryptic that I end up having more questions about what exactly she meant, because it can be interpreted in multiple ways. But this time it felt like she was both straightforward and elaborated a lot, in a way that I don't think I've seen before. It also makes me curious if LFL is going to be more straightforward lyrically, like Love was, and there's going to be less room for debate about what she means in the songs (which would be a shame because I like the mystery). Anyone else pick up on this?
  4. I don't think I've heard a Gaga song that sounded less like a Gaga song than this one.
  5. Lana. New pics. That look. Courtney Love. Longest interview. Mysteries of Love. 4/20. I don't say this very often, but yaaaaaaas Lana, work it!
  6. I kinda prefer this version honestly.
  7. Wasn't it rumored somewhere that Bradley overdosed in the original West Coast video before it got recut? And that the older man (Mark Mahoney) from West Coast and SOC was supposed to be in the original Ultraviolence video and "save" Lana from the cult?
  8. "I just remember, like, being 11 years old and hearing Heart Shaped Box on TV for the first time and, like, the pairing of the guitars with Kurt's voice, kind of invoking the imagery of this West Coast-influenced, underground jazz scene, you know, and just being really struck by it. It was really my first introduction to jazz. But, like, an angrier jazz, I guess."
  9. She spotted a promotion opportunity and wanted to kill it. Queen of sampling.
  10. I watched the video twice and, even after hearing Halsey's explanation of what she was going for in the song and video, I still don't really get how this is connected or what's going on in the video. It feels a bit like a wasted effort, because other elements like the costumes, cinematography, visual style, Halsey's hair, etc., were on point and could have gone somewhere, but it just feels like an extended 6-minute montage of a film that never really happens, and that neither adds a deeper/alternative understanding of the song, nor really helps service the song's original meaning.
  11. The melody in the chorus is really familiar, but I can't place my finger on what it sounds like.
  12. Taylor is the first artist I thought of when I read this new Spotify thing.
  13. If this really is real and happening, it's going to be the most pretentious thing I have ever read and I'm reading every word.
  14. The Little Gay On The Moon better be an actual song title.
  15. Troye and Lana could bond over their love of sweaters and the color blue (and Born To Die since he stole so much of that sound for his album)
  16. LanaBoards mentioned and quoted in Spin: http://www.spin.com/2017/03/lana-del-rey-new-album-lust-for-life-the-weeknd-sean-lennon-courtney-love-best-american-record-rumors/
  17. The problem with a surprise release, in Lana's case, is that it won't go directly to her fans: it will go to the super stans who follow her every move on social media and are waiting every second for the album release. And those are not enough to bring the album up to the charts. Things like singles, interviews, live performances, videos before the album release help to build up hype so that those who do not know what Lana is doing can get time to be informed that she is coming out with a new album and to be excited about it. beyonce's release (going with her self-titled one, since that was the start of it all) worked for a number of reasons, but the main ones were that she is a global superstar who had been in the public consciousness for roughly 15 years before she dropped the album and managed to both record an entire album with an accompanying music video for each track without a single person leaking or discussing it beforehand. The novelty of the album release was also a major talking point, because no artist at her position had ever done something like that before, which meant free promotion from every major news outlet. Lana does not have those connections. Music outlets would most likely cover the release, but those articles would be competing with all the other artists who released albums that day/week, artists who most likely went with the traditional release strategy and had prepped fans to expect an album by the day of release. With that competition, it's quite likely Lana's articles would be mostly or entirely overshadowed by those other articles and all the more casual fans who could have listened to the new album will miss the opportunity to do so (at least in the first few weeks). Those first week sales are still a pretty big deal, even if it kind of sucks. Because again, for a lot of casual fans (and not even fans of Lana, necessarily, but music fans in general) the number one place to find new music is looking at the what's trending/top ten lists. If Lana's new album isn't in that list---there goes that opportunity. Yes, Lana and her label could then try to boost the album through post-release promotion, but they would then be competing with other, major artists releasing hyped albums, which is always dangerous. And Lana's label is probably going to be less likely to, say, promote more (which extends beyond interviews and goes into things like budgets for music videos) if they don't think that they are getting that investment back. If Lana's music video is anything to go by and she seems interested in trying to make a bit of a public comeback, a surprise release would really hinder, if not totally sabotage, those plans.
  18. Lana Del Rey on a bill with Kathi and that disgusting mouth Next concert show ideas.
  19. Calling in sick to work and taking the whole day to hide from the world and avoid every responsibility.
  20. I think the Freak girls get very close to ruining the music video. Actually, they kind of do. The concept, after all, is about being in an exciting but ultimately deadly cult and there's very little they do that shows they understand that is the role they are supposed to be playing. Their vibe/look/acting is just completely wrong and feels much more modern LA girl than something that would fit within the context of the video. One of the girls in particular keeps looking at the camera excitedly like literally every 3 seconds as if she can't get over the fact that she's in a big budget LDR video and that degree of self-awareness is really distracting. It just sucks because I really like the concept they were going for and Lana and FJM both played it well, but if they had just made some adjustments (/recast the girls) and looked more mysterious, subdued, hypnotized, slightly afraid--something to signal they were in the middle of a tragic cult, it would have brought the video more to life and furthered the vision, as opposed to coming off as Lana/Chuck's friends crashing the set one day. God I'm so bitter sorry.
  21. I just hope there are a couple of good interviews this era. I need my annual dose of Lana using the words sonically, thematically, and visually in a sentence.
  22. LOL if the exciting collaborations/guests = Chuck Grant (shooting the album cover), the MTWBT/Freak girls (this time floating through space in the extended cut of Love), Rob's tropical shirt, and Charlie making another quick cameo in a video. And James Franco in a teaser for a mv that will only ever be used for the album trailer/sampler.
  23. Lana low-key psychologically torturing her fans because they keep leaking her work and stealing her Satanic bibles.
