  1. If you want to know my reasoning... Her tone became uneven (Cruel World, Shades of Cool, PWYC), her pitch is shaky (PWYC is the most obvious offender)... and she still hasn't fixed her past mistakes (singing below her comfortable range, forced dark sound that muffles her naturally bright timbre). I don't feel she's become better at expressing her emotions through singing, honestly, and if she has, certainly not enough for me to ignore her new vocal faults. I don't expect perfection from pop singers, but Lana can push my limits in terms of what I find vocally palatable. AKA/BTD/P have their faults, but imo to a more tolerable degree. Personally, my favorite record in terms of singing technique is Sirens and all the associated stuff. She was singing within her range, she had a bright, clear and consistent sound, a nice vibrato, and I don't think she was lacking emotion. I wish she didn't feel that she had to lower her voice to be taken more seriously; I think it's had a negative effect on her singing. EDIT: Terrible double post so sorry
  2. Ultraviolence is a huge step backward vocally, from how she sings to how the vocals are processed (do we really need that much reverb on everything?).
  3. Lana taught me that loving her was never enough. I didn't know what yayo was; there are a whole bunch of slang terms for cocaine. I don't know what Drugstore Cowboy is (I googled it though and I have an idea now). Don't worry, she pulls from a lot of places, some obvious and some not. dangit I just realized you made the same UV joke as me ??? You have the right to work outside of the college. Plenty of students take jobs at grocery stores and the like. And there are plenty of options if you want to live in a big city. Not sure what colleges you were looking for, though. I feel you on paying $20k a year, though. And if you went to a high tier private uni, prepare to pay up to $60k a year That's why most people stay in state; state discounts, baby. It'd be tough for an international student.

I'm really hoping Superlove appears as a bonus track. Do we have an official track list yet? I thought we did but I'm not sure. Also who else unironically appreciates BTR? When I'm feeling immature and irresponsible, I play it and its fun. It doesn't hold a candle to True Romance, but I can't deny it really makes me want to put my dancing shoes on.
  5. Million Dollar Man struck me because it was this very cool jazzy number and I loved the chorus. It had 36 listens at a time when the rest of the BTD songs had maybe 4. I still love it, of course.

Serious question: why did people here view the leaking of 14 as some kind of incredibly amoral thing? Especially when there's no such feeling compared to Lana's Sirens, or her early two EPs? This isn't accusatory; I was genuinely confused by the reaction. The songs weren't obtained by hacking. Someone who bought the CD uploaded the tracks and gave them to someone else. Isn't this the same thing that happened with Sirens? Yet through all the archive binging I've done on this forum, I've never seen anyone react ambivalently to the availability of Sirens stuff. Is it different because Charli doesn't like 14? I've just never seen this reaction to material that was previously available (Lana's pre-AKA albums, Lady Gaga's Red & Blue/Words EP) and I'd like to understand why this particularly case was met with so much outrage.

I have been listening to TR on repeat and here are my impressions. Overall I really like the album. 01 Nuclear Seasons - I like this song a lot, but I don't like the Grins intro. Doesn't fit the apocalyptic feel of Nuclear Seasons. 02 You (Ha Ha Ha) - This song is definitely a jam. I lIke whatever that background sample is. 03 Take My Hand - The chord progression is repetitive, but I love the uplifting feel of the chorus. 04 Stay Away - This sounds like an early Madonna song. Her voice when she sings "I knew you were know angel" is a dead ringer for her. The chorus is meh. 05 Set Me Free - bad verse, grand chorus. 06 Grins - very cute love song. I already knew it from the mix tape. 07 So Far Away - strange song, but not bad. Knew it from mixtape. 08 Cloud Aura - annoying chorus, but I really like this song. 09 What I Like - another really cute song. 10 Black Roses - not bad 11 You're the One - not bad 12 How Can I - lowest point of the album. 13 Lock You Up - I wanted this song to be extended on the mixtape, so I'm happy to hear it in full.
  8. Can you find a link to this vine? I can't seem to find it.

I love BTR , actually. Clearly I'm a minority. It makes me wanna jump around immaturely.

I've listened to it twice on Spotify in full, but I didn't like it then. You (ha ha ha) was my first Charli song (thanks google play for free music) and it took me a long time to like it. SuperLove was my 2nd Charli song and it was very easy to get into. Maybe if it weren't for SuperLove, I wouldn't have bothered trying to get into the rest of her stuff.
  11. Of course. I think few fans can genuinely like everything an artist does. There are always blunders. Even with my very favorite artists, there are songs or even entire albums I skip over, but that doesn't make the love I have for the artist or the remaining songs less important. I don't think I'm a bad Lana fan because "she's disgusting, I'm delicious" is a cringe-worthy lyric or because I prefer BTD to UV.

So I took the plunge and I'm finally ordering True Romance. Very overdue, I know.

This is probably the most reasoned view on an artist "selling out" I've ever seen. Charli has professional as well as artistic ambitions and maybe it's hard for her to reconcile the two. I've really gotten into BTR. It's probably my favorite of the three singles we have. 2nd is SuperLove and Boom Clap is last. I like the boom boom boom clap rhythm she uses between verses other than that the song is pretty bland.

Turns out I underestimated where I was. Checked my phone and I'm actually at page 257 (what am I doing with my life). It's been such an emotional ride, honestly. I don't even know half the songs mentioned but I feel like I do from how people talk about them (e.g. I hadn't heard Take My Hand when I started reading the thread but I knew from reading that it's really popular and it's a happy cute song).

@@heartbreakhigh Beg her to put SuperLove on a deluxe version of the album? I can't stand non-album singles ;-; Other than that idk I'm pretty new to Charli and I wouldn't know anything interesting to ask her. I've been reading this thread (I'm at like pg 160~ now) and I know everyone really wants Mess and Midnight (that hasn't leaked yet, has it?) and maybe title track of TR but other than that I'm kinda wet around the ears. CharliBoards is too big, man I listened to 14 yesterday and both mixtapes today and surprisingly I'm preferring 14 to either one. I don't have True Romance yet but I'm planning to get it. Not sure if I'll get Sucker, since I don't know if I'm gonna be able to stan for Charli or not. I'm kind of ambivalent since I'm not totally like YASSSS SLAY MAMA but I do like stuff like You (Ha Ha Ha), Nuclear Seasons, !Francheskaar! (don't laugh ), Heatwave, sometimes I like Cloud Aura but sometimes it irritates me, Take My Hand, and of course I Love It. A lot of people said True Romance was a grower though so maybe Charli's work in general takes time to digest? She seems cooler than I gave her credit for.
  16. So now that UV's been out a while and the ~novelty~ factor has worn off, I can now say I prefer BTD to UV. Of course, AKA still reigns supreme *single tear slides down cheek* but she has forsaken that lovely record and I must move on with my life. i will love AKA till the end of time, i would wait a million years Lyrically, there aren't that many lines that just stick in my head and that I find myself thinking about throughout the day. Maybe "I love you the first time, I love you the last time" and "cause I'm your jazz singer and you're my cult leader" from UV, "cause I don't have to fucking explain" from Brooklyn Baby, and of course "I want money, POWER, AND GLORYYYYYYYYY," but otherwise I'm not gripped. There are some songs that are just lyrically incoherent, like FMWUTTT, which can't seem to decide who it's singing to ("I'm a dragon, you're a whore" but "I need ya baby like I breathe ya baby, fucking need ya baby" ???) and PWIC, which is a mess ("I got much more than that, like my memories, I don't need that," what were you thinking Lana?). The repetitiveness is also a problem. I actually like UV's chorus, but lyrical and melodic repetition can be a tough pill to swallow. It's also not a pill I want to swallow often (Old Money, Guns and Roses, Black Beauty, SG, PWIC). Her singing is not commendable here. Like in "Shades of Cool," she goes from the light heavenly timbre of "you are unfixable" to the croaking of "can't break through your world." It sounds sloppy, and I love Shades of Cool, so it's not some bias against the song. Pretty When I Cry is supposedly some improvised stuff, and I might believe it if only for the quality of the lyrics, which sound like they were made up out of thin air. However, I don't think any supposed "rawness" in her delivery compensates for her shaky pitch. Adding reverb doesn't disguise it. Oh, that's another thing - the vocals are all drenched in reverb and I do not like that sound. Maybe on one song with good vocals (ahem, SoC when Lana's just floating in the heavens) it would add a cool effect, but otherwise it just makes her faults in technique more obvious. I do like the album, don't get me wrong. I like Cruel World, UV, SoC, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Sad Girl, MPG, The Other Woman (I LOVE this cover), Black Beauty, and Florida Kilos. There are a lot of moments I adore - the "blue hydrangeas" part of Old Money, the verses and bridge of Guns and Roses, the "need you baby like I breathe you baby" melody in FMWUTTT, "are you gonna hurt me now or later" in Flipside, and sometimes I'm in the mood for Is This Happiness. As an album, however, I don't like it as much as BTD or AKA. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get down to beat poetry Florida Kilos. Yayo yayo yayo and all the dope fiends
  17. We live vicariously through exciting song lyrics. I think there's truth in some of her songs, but there's no way her songs are "100% biographical." We want to find a community of creative people we identify with, but can't. We wax nostalgic about an idealized version of the past.
  18. I don't think Brooklyn Baby is sarcastic. I think she believes what she's saying in it. And if she's ever called out on it, she'll say it's satirical to cover her butt. I liked to believe it was satirical, but someone here said that it was "too close to home" for Lana to poke fun at and now I can't see it as joking.
  19. 162. You want to be the whole world's girl. 163. Crazy bunny, don't you know you are the world? 164. Gramma's going to leave the lights on for us. 165. I can talk what I want, how I want to.
  20. So many of these have leaked. .. even Old Money, blessed with an official release. Let's hope the same will apply for these Roses (Rick Nowels and to stop the thirst) Greenwich (mystery) For Charlie (I suspect it's a track we already have but is mislabeled, but that's speculation) Ottr demo (the only BTD demo that hasn't leaked and it was on effing SoundCloud) I'll take anything, though.
  21. ...You start thinking "you can be the boss, daddy" and "you can be my daddy" when you see hot guys. ...You purposely seek out diet mountain dew. ...You make fun of all the stupid stuff she's said or done but you'd still defend her when someone calls her fake or boring. ...You look at other girls and think "they're disgusting, I'm delicious." ...You have seriously spent time trying to think which songs are about which boyfriends. ...You know all of the (known) Lana boyfriends. ...You roll your eyes at her cheesy overdone phrases like Coney island, red party dress, queen of ____, heaven is a place on earth, but you kinda like 'em. ...Lana's 'sexy' dancing is an inspiration to you. ...Trailer parks, go go dancing, hard drugs, and prison seem like glamorous lifestyle choices. ...You have Lana sleuthed or Lanalyzed. ...Die Young and Trust No One have suddenly become your life philosophies. ...You want a man with a fist like God and a bod like John. ...You believe in the country America used to be, even if you're not American (and even if you're not sure what the hell she's talking about). I'll stop now. I'll leave it to you to think which ones represent me... if any
  22. Great idea. He used to call me D.N... That stood for demented neanderthal.
  23. I started out wanting to make an unreleased 'pop' Lana album. Stuff like GGD, St Tropez, Behind Closed Doors, Hit & Run. It somehow ended up being an album of anything that is remotely viable for mainstream with a loose storyline. More Than Just A Party Girl Here's one that's more purely pop. As one person put it, imagine if Lana debuted as a pop artist instead of doing her sad cinematic pop. Just A Party Girl Behind Closed Doors Butterflies Part 2 True Love On The Side Shes's not me (ride or die) Push me down Lift your eyes Ghetto Baby Fake Diamond Butterflies St Tropez Is it wrong? Driving in cars with boys (v2) Live Or Die Go go dancer Ooh baby Hit and run (v1) Jealous Girl Paradise In The Sun Puppy Love Queen of Disaster Prom Song Take Me To Paris Never Let Me Go TV in black and white Break My Fall I need help with this playlist. I don't want it to include any low quality songs or demos (that's why Summer of Sam and Match Made In Heaven aren't here). I also feel like this is too long. Ideally I'd cut it down to make 17-19 songs. Bolded songs are ones I might remove. @@PrettyBaby help? *puppy dog eyes*
  24. 145. You can pay go-go dancers whatever you like. 146. It's okay to be a-g-g-r-e-s-s-i-v-e. 147. But it's preferable to be called a-m-e-r-i-c-a. 148. Lana Del Rey is everyone's one true love on the side. 149. She still lives on 1 Greenwich Avenue. 150. She may burn your toast, but she's still the bestest.
