  1. Another 'secret' UV reference I found. I assumed MPG was fictitious and the person searching for God was just there to be a foil to Lana who is honest about ambition. Then I heard Butterflies Pt 2: You're hot for God, but we all got a, Hunch that maybe you've gone astray. Control yourself, but it's so hard, When you can look so good on Sunday. I know he know, That I know what he's thinkin' I know he know. I know he know, That what he's teachin' is wrong, But, honey, this preacher's song, Has got me too far-gone. Sicko, psycho, sicko, But he's my beau. Dresses up in rings and rollers, Poses as a Holy Roller! So talking about hypocritical pastors is no new theme for her.
  2. Ok, I was just listening to Driving In Cars... for the first time and I heard "call me poison ivy cause I'm no good" and obviously I related it to "he used to call me poison like I was poison ivy." I don't know much about Driving In Cars... so maybe it's a coincidence, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet. (if it has, sorry for being late! I don't know most of her unreleased stuff)
  3. Just some comments since I'm on mobile. DMD is one of her favorite drinks. The chorus comes from a phrase an ex said while she was riding with him: diet mountain dew, babe? New York City? IIRC Arthur Lynn ran DMD records, a MySpace 'record label.' Sources are in lanalysis. I go against the grain and think Brooklyn baby is genuine. The whole idea of the freedom land of the 70s is something she's mentioned indirectly before. She says Brooklyn Baby in True Love On The Side. And most of all, @@evilentity put it next: the song is too close to home to be satire. She can make fun of wealth and money power glory because they're not real or not something she lives, but she IS the things she says in Brooklyn baby. It's always cool to see people talking about their interpretations, so keep it up.
  4. Since this thread has come back from the grave... Is there any truth to the comments saying it's about her dead grandma or ex who "died in a car crash"? I've never heard of either of these things on this forum, so I wanna ask before dismissing it as bull. Her face at 3:38 is heartbreaking. Makes me teary too.
  5. Not hearing it. In the video version of NA, I heard some double tracking on the first verse that I hadn't heard on the album version, so maybe that's it. It doesn't sound like excessive auto tune (or any pitch correction) that gives the Cher effect, and if there were any effect, it'd be far too subtle to be intentional in my opinion. I'm also growing to agree with Monicker that BoaF uses a chorus effect, not autotune.
  6. As long as it's available as a stand alone CD, I'm fine. Nothing like Ellie Goulding and Halcyon Days.
  7. I love her May Jailer period. I group the 'new' albums as bonus tracks on Sirens because I hate overlap in albums... but I still keep the original orders in separate folders because I can't stand to mess around with them. What is the evidence for Pretty Baby being For K Part 1? I imagine it has to do with the "Pretty Baby" refrain in For K Part 2, but is there anything more? Lyrically I don't see much of a relationship to any other K song. While For K Part 2 is confusing titled Rehab as a demo, there are still references to K being a musician in other songs (Blue Jeans, anyone?) so I theorize it's a hybrid Jimmy/K song. Drive By/Sirens/For K Part 1 has the distinction of being the only song to actually name drop K in the lyrics and is very explicit about who K was and what he did; For K Part 2 is only a mysterious title. I love all the mystery surrounding Sirens. The fact that we're still debating the song titles is evidence of how much is still unknown. I think K was definitely an influence, but maybe some other romances or incidents we don't know about. "A Star For Nick," "Dear Elliott," and "In Wendy" are really interesting because they mention people that don't show up anywhere else. Kind of like how LDR mentions Ray in Kill Kill and Raise Me Up. Here's some quick Lanalysis on Sirens. The other two albums/EPs will have to come another day because I'm tired. Please other people talk about May Jailer songs! There's a lot in them and they're barely ever talked about.
  8. Old money refers to established aristocratic families. People who got their fortune by inheritance. This is in comparison to people who make their fortune quickly, the nouveau riche. If you've read our seen The Great Gatsby, the Buchanans are old money while Gatsby is nouveau riche.
  9. Depending on my mood, I'll pick a song and then just hear the rest of the album from there. Sometimes I start at Cruel World. I always stop after Florida Kilos though because I'm not big on Flipside/Is This Happiness.
  10. 1. You no longer play guitar or use it to write songs. Why? 2. Who or what is K, and is he a gangsta with a golden grill or a blue haired punk? 3. In Ride, you said you dreamt of being a beautiful post but a series of unfortunate events shattered those dreams. Explain this in concrete terms - why did you do music and not poetry.
  11. German itself isn't the ancestor of English or Scandinavian. We don't have written evidence of it, but linguists have reconstructed Proto-Germanic, the common ancestor of Germanic languages. English and German are siblings while Germanic is the father. I'm not sure if that's what you were trying to day, cuz the way you worded it made it sound like Modern German is the ancestor of Germanic languages. EDIT: lol I didn't realize this was from last year. derp
  12. I hope she does; it was impossible to get tickets considering the tiny venues she had. :c
  13. It's a grower, but I like it. I wish she had redone AFFA, though. BB really benefited from the production. Likes So far: Cruel World (outstanding), Shades of Cool (haunting), Money Power Glory, Sad Girl, Old Money, FMWUTTT, UV, BrB, BlB, WC, TOW. Unsure of: Flipside, ITH, PWUC, g&r, Florida kilos.
  14. The chorus with what looked like cheesy 70s red/green 3D effects and the super-imposed roses/doves/whatever happening just perfectly capture the feeling of listening to the chorus. It's like you feel euphoria blooming and you are weightless. I like it. I'm also happy she doesn't use hot young guys in her music videos or doesn't focus it all on herself. Lana's pretty, but she has more to say with her videos than "look I'm pretty." It's a welcome break from music videos that are all hot guys and focus entirely on the singer (not that those are bad, but they're pretty common). I'm not even a fan of this "daddy" but I prefer him to having Bradley. imo, he fits the mood of the song better (even though I thought it was about Barry with his periods of darkness and stuff).
  15. Why does Target's UV get released a day after the official release date? I'm passing by one today and I'm kind of annoyed that I'll be so close. Tomorrow I'll have to go out of my way...
  16. Sometimes Lana comes off as pretentious and silly in interviews (romanticizing the 60s/70s, talking about how she's such a true artist, calling Hispanic culture "exotic...") but this one was actually really nice. It didn't seem like BS when she was talking about metaphysics like she normally does. It was genuinely interesting and I felt like there were more glimpses into her as opposed to other interviews where it feels like she's responding how they want her to respond and being all "chameleon-like." As much as I like Lanalyzing her love life, I do hope for more songs about her, her struggles, her "very deep" psychological world, feeling "alone but not lonely."
  17. Sometimes Lana really makes me shake my head in disappointment. She really thinks she and Barrie are the only true artists with 60s/70s souls~~~left, doesn't she? And everyone else is just in it for the money and they even jack her style, poor thing! If it ends up being about Gaga or Lorde, I'll be incredibly disappointed because she really doesn't have a case against either of them. She and Gaga may have known each other and though she obviously can't stand Gaga, what did Gaga "copy" from her? Musically, nothing. Stylistically, nothing - Gaga being an extravagant fashion disaster is pretty well documented since she started in "the scene," while Lana, by her own words, is pretty plain. Thematically.... what? What is it that people see in The Fame that could even remotely be influenced by Lana? "Bad boy" themes? Gaga did have a tumultuous and strenuous relationship with Luc for a long while, as well as a difficult relationship with her producer, Fusari. I guess you could call that fucking your way up to the top, but that's not copying. TF is sex, money, glamour, themes that have been popular in music long before Lana and Gaga were born. The thing that makes me think it might be Gaga is that she says that she, Lana, is seen as "the art project" while the other artist is a "super real artist," and Gaga has been trying to talk art for a while. Still, I don't think people "believe" Gaga as much as Lana thinks people believe this person. And Lorde copying Lana... because she has a monopoly on hip-hop beats, low voices, and sadness? Lorde's work is about suburban ennui, not remotely comparable to Lana's work (and that one person who compared the rhythm of OTTR to Royals... one, they're not as similar as you think, two, the similarity between them is an incredibly common beat you'll run across in any music class; nobody can lay claim to it). Lorde has called Lana's work irrelevant to her life, which out of context sounds like an ATRL type diss, but... I really hope Lana isn't petty enough to talk smack about a 17 year old for vague musical similarities and daring to have an opinion. I was looking forward to FMW, but if it ends up being a So Legit-style track, I'll be disappointed. I was hoping for her to expand on her statement that sleeping with the boss doesn't get you anywhere anymore because it's "not the 50s," and what she said about the record executive (Arthur Lynn?) whom she dated for 7 years (?!? what). I hope that people here are right and she's just drumming up publicity/exaggerating one line of her song. The mom stuff was interesting. Gramma Del Rey's gonna leave the lights on.
  18. Don't like it so far, but it might be a grower. SoC and WC remain my faves of the four songs we have so far. And the lyrics... UV is truly an album to test us all. Funny story though; I was looking for Brooklyn Baby lyrics since I can't understand a word she says and I found these completely fake lyrics about how her boyfriend looks like the Madonna and is in a band called Kassidy. Keep trying, fake lyric writers. EDIT: Yeah, I'm kind of tired of people calling ARTPOP a flop. An album doesn't have to be a smash hit to be successful. It sold decently, had a hit single, and is now being supported by a popular tour. Far from flopping. Underperforming? Yeah, coming from an era where the album sold 1 mil in the 1st week. Really, how does ARTPOP keep showing up in Lana threads? I swear every popular thread in news has at least one commenter mentioning ARTPOP and how it sucks/flops and I don't understand why we keep coming back to this.
  19. I honestly just hate having a CD that doesn't have all the tracks on it. And to burn another CD just... defeats the whole point of buying a CD. I hate these region exclusive tracks so much. If the worry is "too many tracks" or "they won't fit the album," it's always perfectly possible to make a second CD of bonus material. It has nothing to do with being lazy - I want to buy all the songs and have them all on one official CD. Lady Gaga didn't do that for BTW or ARTPOP (except an Applause remix for Japan but honestly remixes are bonus track filler and idgaf about them). Not TFM either. The only album with region exclusives she's done has been TF, which was a hot mess. Thankfully she hasn't done that since. And I don't think Pure Heroine is different depending on location, either? I'm a completionist freak, but I also just like having one CD that has everything because I do listen to CDs a lot. I'm not buying three different versions to switch between them for one track and also that costs $$$. Yeah, I can download it later and listen to it on my computer, but I never end up listening to those tracks. It's a pet peeve of mine, really - I just can't stand material scattered across different CDs. I'd rather pay more and have one or two official CDs with everything than download the tracks later and burn it onto a CD/ Well, now here's my happy side - yes, more songs! And if you feel like releasing a new version of AFFA, don't be afraid Lana. ugh yes. Also curious as to how the title will work. Flipside reminds me of a video game hub world. June 16 seems so close now.
  20. I just want the version with the 14 tracks, I don't really care for anything else. :'(
  21. I'm most looking forward to FMWUTTT, FK, and UV. Oh, and Black Beauty, of course.
  22. Don't like it. Also I'm a big fan of names on albums. The pose is nice, but that's about it. I never liked the BTD cover either. Still don't like it. I don't any of her covers, to be frank. Still, I'd take this cover if it meant a final version of Angels Forever. *please*
  23. Except the remix of SS is not her sound. It's nothing like anything on BTD or P. It even removes the only part of SS I like (where the bridge???). Same with Y&B. You could say that remixes might lead some to check out her original stuff and they might be interested, but I think it rarely gets to that point. And unlike the SS remix, this is a single for an album. It is misleading if you buy UV and don't even have the radiot edit. I know artists do that, but I hate it when they do it too. Same when you pre-order an album because you hear a cool single and the single's not on the album (although in that case you should have read the track list... still, it's obnoxious). I have no problem with different versions of tracks (Y&B). I guess my "problem" is that you have the same song presented in two different ways at the same time for the same album. It's messy and yes, it is misleading. If it were being released like what we saw above where both the radio edit and original are part of the same EP (?), that'd be a different story. Then you have it like a cool bonus. I think what I dislike most about this new version is the vocal take. I really don't like it. It sounds... lazy, if that makes sense? Like she recorded it because the higher ups said "make this more radio-friendly" and she did it in one sitting and left. I can see this being played at many a summer party with the new instrumental, though.
  24. To everyone talking about artists releasing different versions for radio... there's a difference between a radio edit that makes a very long song shorter (eg. Mirrors) and a radio edit that changes the instrumentation and vocal take. Radio edits that are shorter are nothing new, and there are some songs that have slight differences between single and album version (eg. Ellie Goulding and Lights), but Lana basically released an outtake of West Coast that is notably different. Singles are promotional tools for albums, so imagine someone buying UV because they think it's gonna be fun like the radio mix and getting the original... That's my ultimate problem with releasing different versions for radio; it's misleading. Especially if the single version is only available as a single and not as a bonus track on the album... New version is cute and fun, but the original is definitely much more impressive in terms of mood and just moving on from BTD. This sounds like a BTD outtake (Lolita? Early DP?).
