AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by stadiumarcadium in stadiumarcadium's drawings and stuff
I love drawing and I especially love drawing people so it's obvious I drew Lana several times. I didn't know if I should post the pictures on here because at first I always feel satisfied with my drawings but few days later I doubt they became as good as I wanted them to be and I've seen drawings of other people on here and they seem so much better. But now I thought fuck it and I'd like to give it a shot so here are my Lana drawings.
The first one, don't like it that much
Lana vs Lizzy
Ignore the watermark
You can click on the pictures to see them in full size but I think that's obvious.
Constructive criticism (or praise ) is welcome.

I'm pretty excited for the video based on the clip. At times while reading the responses I wondered if we had even watched the same clip lol. I don't know, I just get this feeling that this is going to be amazing. Every time I feel unsure about something she's doing and I finally see the end product, she always manages to blow me away and make me wonder why I ever doubted her. So I'm trusting her on this one.
And for anyone feeling odd about the quality, just remember the quality difference between the Shades of Cool teaser and the actual video!
Also does this remind anyone of Marina's State of Dreaming video? First thing I thought when I saw it.

This whole thing reads like "Critical Theory Trends Report 2014, Special Focus: What Lana Del Rey Means To Our Profession."
I have spent many an hour in literature and philosophy classes myself, and these types of thinkers and writers are easy to find. They are always insufferable, always self-important, and always unable to create anything themselves. Their only means is destruction; they examine everything like a cadaver. I find it ironic that Lana herself spent time in those classes, only to go on to create something that her would-be peers are now deconstructing to death. She creates, they can only hyper-analyze. Who's having the last laugh?

well i wanna know about the underwear of a lot of ppl but i don't actually go around asking them
overall interesting post btw and one i'm glad for, i'm sure we all secretly get a little wet when evil daddy puts us in line but i did want to debate one point with you
i feel like we interpreted this differently. she could throw in the towel and live comfortably off her earnings but she'd probably be miserable anyway. i know it sounds pretentious as hell but lana definitely strikes me as a creative type, definitely some form of artist. my experiences of artists is that they rarely create for others and often don't even create for themselves. it's kind of something internal that drives them to make things, because it brings them some kind of catharsis. in this sense i kind of get what lana means when she says she wants to quit, even if it sounds hypocritical. writing, painting, any form of artistic creation can be simultaneously frustrating and calming. i know she doesn't necessarily love the fame and a lot of the bullshit that comes with it, but i'm also certain she's passionate about her music, which is why i know deep down she won't quit. mostly i think she needs to learn to think before she speaks, particularly to journalists. this doesn't excuse her for having such a big chip on her shoulder and at times acting a little bratty/dramatic, but it's just how i kind of view the whole situation.

AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by slang in Reoccurrence in Lana's melodies and structures?
There is a thin line between having a style and using a formula. She is no worse, imo, than Depeche Mode or Alanis Morrisette, in terms of milking a style, although there are obvious complications for LDR, like multiple versions of the same songs (e.g., every man gets his wish) and intentional reuse of musical themes in very different ways (e.g., Dangerous Girl and You and Me). But the thing that strikes me as weird is the range of styles. I would never have predicted (most) Lizzy Grant emerging from May Jailer or (most) Lana Del Rey emerging from Lizzy Grant. Then the leaks and unreleased often convey other flavors (e.g., lots of really decent bubble-gum pop). So yeah, certain songs have similarities to each other, but the range overall is what I focus on. Wish the leaks/unreleased/aborted-releases were a more proper part of her discography, as I think that range is what reflects her greatness the most (well for me, at least).

AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by evilentity in Lana's alleged sect/cult past
I'd like to see the original Grazia source rather than this translation of a secondhand source, but assuming this describes it accurately... when exactly did she have time for a cult in between living with her boyfriend in Alabama and having a 7-year relationship with a label head?

AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by Trinity in "Ultraviolence" to premier tomorrow on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe!
I think Ultraviolence is a pretty good song, obviously not her best, but I prefer it over Shades of Cool (West Coast is still my favorite so far). Unlike most people here, I really love the Deadly Nightshade/Poison Ivy references. She's comparing herself to plants that are dangerously beautiful -- very pretty to the eye but could kill you with one touch. I think it's sort of brilliant actually, it fits with the whole persona Lana's been building all of this time tying in danger, sex, glamour, etc. Lyrically, I think she could have done a little more with the song. I agree with @@Deadly Nightshade in the sense that she had the chance to create a really great story, but it seems the plot line is just a bit flat. I do appreciate the little dip into her past, though.
As far as the production goes, I like it but it just seems like with this song, and all three songs so far, her voice sounds sort of muffled and quiet at times with all the live instrumentation. I know that's probably something Lana/Dan wanted when producing the album but I, personally, just don't like it. Lana's voice should be the focal point of the songs and the live music should enhance it, not drown it out. Overall, I'd probably give Ultraviolence 3/5 stars. I won't put it on repeat, but it won't go un-played in my library.

AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by timinmass101 in Lana Del Rey Covers FADER Magazine
I had intended to start this discussion elsewhere, but after reading the Fader interview I thought I'd comment here briefly. I joined the Lanaboards because I have a deep emotional connection to the music of Lana Del Rey. I feel like she is talking for me. I am also a student of them Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator. I am an INFP. Based on what I've read on this site, I believe there are quite a few members that are also INFPs (see http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/2833-myers-briggs-type-indicator/ hat tip to Colacunt.)
INFPs are relatively rare personality types representing 2-5% of the population. I speculate that Lizzy Grant is an INFP as well, which perhaps explains why so many INFPs are attracted to her. After reading the Fader article I am more convinced that she is. I will follow up in the conversations area as to exactly why I think this.
But to understand the INFP, you need to understand the following traits commoin to an INFPs: (see http://similarminds.com/jung/infp.html)
creative
smart
idealist
loner
attracted to sad things
disorganized
avoidant
can be overwhelmed by unpleasant feelings
prone to quitting
prone to feelings of loneliness
ambivalent of the rules
solitary
daydreams about people to maintain a sense of closeness
focus on fantasies
acts without planning
low self confidence
emotionally moody
can feel defective
prone to lateness
likes esoteric things
wounded at the core
feels shame
frequently losing things
prone to sadness
prone to dreaming about a rescuer
disorderly
observer
easily distracted
does not like crowds
can act without thinking
private
can feel uncomfortable around others
familiar with the darkside
hermit
more likely to support marijuana legalization
can sabotage self
likes the rain
sometimes can't control fearful thoughts
prone to crying
prone to regret
attracted to the counter culture
can be submissive
prone to feeling discouraged
frequently second guesses self
not punctual
not always prepared
can feel victimized
prone to confusion
prone to irresponsibility
can be pessimistic
These traits are core to who we are. It is difficult to live in a world that has expectations of normalcy since we are anything but. The Fader article seems to highlight much of this.
Anyway, rather than hijack this thread I will continue this discussion elsewhere.
Oh, and as an aside ... we take criticism as a personal attack. There are many INFP blogs that discuss this issue ad nauseum. Imagine what she must have gone through 2012-2013. I would have been having suicidal thoughts on a daily basis as well.
Peace.

AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by TheKingofHorror in LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
I don't see why Lana would need to change the name. We all know that anything she says/sings sounds like silk so even if the person was someone named Greg or Allen whatever, she would make it work with the song. It is interesting though that she could have just said "he" taught me that rather than a name but, it wouldn't tell as much of a story.
Ultraviolence is obviously about a toxic relationship that both people are addicted to. Because, while Jim seems to be abusive it sounds like she was no better saying lines such as "He used to call me DN, that stood for deathly night shade" doesn't really paint a picture of someone who's nice. Obviously they're both crazy for eachother in the worst way. This song is seriously dark just like she promised. She literally wants to run back to him she can't keep that feeling away she wants it back she wants the Ultraviolence. The crazy toxic life they had together. It's almost like a drug that kind of feeling.
That's just what I think of the song though personally.

AnneAmanda liked a post in a topic by Leo in Promo Single: "SHADES OF COOL" (May 26)
West Coast was a sign of great things to come. Shades of Cool is proof of that greatness. It almost killed me at first listen. Seriously, during the chorus I felt the strongest euphoria I've felt since maybe the first few weeks of discovering Lana for the first time.
I was a bit sceptical the first seconds, but that passed quickly. This is probably an accurate description of my reactions during this song:

I agree. The image as a whole needs some work
I feel like the tone/contrast should be adjusted because it seems way too gray, and the image is way too LQ for an album cover.
