  1. Also so happy to see @cherri get recognized for her gorgeous art! I haven’t seen her in a bit but her spirit and art live on and on and on And my absolute fav @rightofjupiter nominated for underrated member Let’s make sure a win sees her become rated a little more than just “under” in the years to come
  2. @Elle And thank you for the nominations! Although I will say, I’m surprised you are not sick of me after last year’s Lipsters…please let @Surf Noir @Super Movie @Alison by Slowdive @PatentLeatherDoOver and @Elle sweep this year, do not vote for me I also see some of my favs have been snubbed…again!
  3. I thought “fuck you, Kevin” was a reference to her ex-bassist who apparently shaded her on social media in 2020? I don’t remember seeing any post as such, so it could be fake news lol, but Kevin was definitely part of the band until he was absent on the NFR tour. Edit: never mind — confirmed false
  4. @Surf Noir better sweep the awards, she has held this website together in its driest times for at least two years in a row and still hasn’t been recognized by the Lipsters to the extent she deserves!
  5. Thinking about the themes of LFL — I really love the way she contrasts the sentiments of Yosemite to the original version of The Next Best American Record. We did it for fun, we did it for free When I was young till eternity versus You did it all for fame Tell me how life treats you now that it’s over That direct parallel between doing things for the joy of them vs. doing things for the commercialization of it all, and then going on to characterize the former as timeless and withstanding time, but the latter as eventually having an expiration date (being “over”), is genius. I am fully convinced that—as much as I love the final album—whatever vision she had for LFL when the title track was that first version of TNBAR would have been her most lyrically and existentially poignant following the themes of Honeymoon. This record probably would have directly confronted her stance as an artist, and as a famous person.
  6. I forgot how much I loved this song, how intelligent the lyrics are, and how glorious the production is.
  7. Lol! You guys are welcome for that title, by the way originally it was “Liz, I’m Calling from Calihoma”, as she and Sean used to make a port-manteau out of “California” and “Oklahoma” (which has a nice ring to it) but I guess everyone misread it—and now keeps campaigning for it— as “Liz, I’m Calling from California”
  8. You totally hit the nail on the head — this is exactly how I’ve felt listening to specifically her unreleased songs from 2010 and early 2011, right before Video Games blew up. She was really stepping into who she’d become, and I love looking back on periods where success is imminent and you’re totally on the brink of it. <3
  9. For me, the songs have always been thoughtful in a very deep, poetic, beautiful way — and perhaps contemplation lends itself to existentialism, often related to dread and melancholy. That said, I think the song of hers that best encapsulates the beauty of a genuinely sad state of being would have to be Black Beauty.
  10. I see you watching my posts We need more :glamna: smileys!
  11. Wow, that’s cool to hear! I feel like it has to be something that is more left-of-centre, then. The last three records have been gorgeously classic in terms of instrumentation, so I wonder if there will be a more synthetic element in terms of production this time around. Based on what she’s been doing lately in terms of personal style, I’d say something a little more explosive is on the way. I’m into hearing some fatter beats!
  12. I was a heavy lurker for years before I joined and these screenshots hit me with the nostalgia <3
  13. Well, all the roses are red, and Jupiter too, so… What is your favourite item of clothing you own?

    Song vs. Song

    Terrence Loves You vs. Arcadia
  15. I’m endorsing @Surf Noir @Super Movie @Alison by Slowdive @PatentLeatherDoOver @rightofjupiter @prettywhenimhigh @Elle @DCooper @Thunder @scarlettohara @YourGirl666 @Niko Dealergo @plastiscguy @Trash Magic (and probably more) for all the positive categories
  16. Hey, welcome to LanaBoards! I saw your figurine all over social media - it looks amazing, you have a talent! <3 Your birthday party looked really cool, too. That cake is creativity and skill to the nth degree. Happy belated birthday and we look forward to seeing you around!!
  17. I am feeling a bit of a beachier LFL vibe for this next record, especially in terms of tracklist order! I imagine there will be more introspective tracks (following the levels and layers of Text Book, Blue Banisters, and Wildflower Wildfire) towards the end, but I also think there will be at least a few fun, summery tracks in terms of production. Maybe something along the lines of Doin Time, Freak, or Florida Kilos, but with a slightly more muted soundscape particular to the new album. I think the lyrics BoZ teased could be one of those tracks.
  18. Just submitted my nominations! Can't wait to see all of my friends and faves sweep the awards next month!
  19. I have been thinking about how intelligent the Honeymoon cover + photoshoot is lately, and I just wanted to reshare something I wrote about it 4 years ago. This record is just so amazing and continues to amaze me –
  20. Man…I’m excited. Something about her more colourful and bold fashion lately — paired with these lyrics — suggests something a bit more mid-tempo. These lyrics remind me a lot of the beach motif on LFL tracks (13 Beaches, Cherry, Summer Bummer) so I wonder if we’re in for something hot and summery like that
