Hmm…I feel like her song for Euphoria won’t be specific to the point of it being a pure soundtrack song. I could see it functioning similarly to Doin Time, which was intended for Interscope’s Sublime documentary, but doubled as a smash single for NFR — because of the precedent that set, I could see her label wanting to capitalize off of another song that would get increased exposure because of its feature in the show and (likely) has a more “commercial” sound compared to the previous releases. And to kind of “ride the high” of releasing two albums within 7 months, it would make sense to have a lead single be a smashing success — especially in coincidence with BTD’s 10 year anniversary.

I’m here for anything, but I have to say — hazy, smoky, gritty, shoegaze-y electric guitars and Lana are a match made in heaven

Ah, I see, thank you for setting the record straight. I never saw any alleged posts myself, so glad to know it’s not true! -
I think my favourite FJM records are I Love You, Honeybear and God’s Favourite Customer. The title of the latter is just so clever. So excited for the new album and Lana’s cover <3

This title, “Buddy’s Rendezvous”, sounds very eccentric — I could see it being a jazzier number, or even something a little bit folk-rockier. The title reminds me of something she would have written with TLSP in 2017.

Omg… I see you girl…bringing sultry surf glam to the Lipsters this year!
-
Also voted! Can’t wait to cheer on my faves at the ceremony! @Elle let’s coordinate outfits this time so we don’t accidentally show up in the same gown like last year
-
Also so happy to see @cherri get recognized for her gorgeous art! I haven’t seen her in a bit but her spirit and art live on and on and on And my absolute fav @rightofjupiter nominated for underrated member Let’s make sure a win sees her become rated a little more than just “under” in the years to come
-
@Elle And thank you for the nominations! Although I will say, I’m surprised you are not sick of me after last year’s Lipsters…please let @Surf Noir @Super Movie @Alison by Slowdive @PatentLeatherDoOver and @Elle sweep this year, do not vote for me I also see some of my favs have been snubbed…again!

I thought “fuck you, Kevin” was a reference to her ex-bassist who apparently shaded her on social media in 2020? I don’t remember seeing any post as such, so it could be fake news lol, but Kevin was definitely part of the band until he was absent on the NFR tour. Edit: never mind — confirmed false -
@Surf Noir better sweep the awards, she has held this website together in its driest times for at least two years in a row and still hasn’t been recognized by the Lipsters to the extent she deserves!

Thinking about the themes of LFL — I really love the way she contrasts the sentiments of Yosemite to the original version of The Next Best American Record. We did it for fun, we did it for free When I was young till eternity versus You did it all for fame Tell me how life treats you now that it’s over That direct parallel between doing things for the joy of them vs. doing things for the commercialization of it all, and then going on to characterize the former as timeless and withstanding time, but the latter as eventually having an expiration date (being “over”), is genius. I am fully convinced that—as much as I love the final album—whatever vision she had for LFL when the title track was that first version of TNBAR would have been her most lyrically and existentially poignant following the themes of Honeymoon. This record probably would have directly confronted her stance as an artist, and as a famous person. -
I forgot how much I loved this song, how intelligent the lyrics are, and how glorious the production is.

Lol! You guys are welcome for that title, by the way originally it was “Liz, I’m Calling from Calihoma”, as she and Sean used to make a port-manteau out of “California” and “Oklahoma” (which has a nice ring to it) but I guess everyone misread it—and now keeps campaigning for it— as “Liz, I’m Calling from California”
