Songs that could've been perfect but aren't due to...
IanadeIrey replied to YourGirl666's topic in Lana Thoughts
I think it’s perfect for BTD’s cohesiveness and overall evocation, but I definitely prefer the classic feeling of the live version, and the demo is so underrated! I love the bass, I can’t hear it in the album version, but it would add to the romantic feeling of the song! -

Don’t get me wrong, I love Million Dollar Man as it is on Born to Die, and it’s perfect for the soundscape and sonic world of the record…but listening to the instrumental of the Paradise Tour version + hearing the shouty live vocals in the chorus and the jazzy “ooh”s in the bridge before the last chorus, I wish there was some alternate re-release of the song where we got a studio version of that. It’s just so jazzy and timeless and classic. Lana’s interpolations of “jazz” (UV + HM as albums, Million Dollar Man live, and Why Don’t You Do Right live) are all amazing and show off her talent as a musician and artist, she really suits the genre and knows how to make it her own while staying true to its roots.- 70 replies

Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
This has always fascinated me. Listening to the original 2016 version of that song and the version that ended up on NFR (which was done in 2017), it’s so interesting to see that shift between spite and sympathy that occurred within that 1 year (California was also done in 2017). I remember in the 2014 Rolling Stone interview, Lana said that it was sad they couldn’t be together because their reasons for not being together were purely circumstantial. And I say all of this to not pry, but to just marvel at how impactful a relationship can be, even if it’s over, and how it can basically be distilled into beautiful art in Lana’s case. The tracks that they worked on together appearing on Blue Banisters, as well as Riverside being released on Barrie’s record, is really a moment that represents mutual understanding and acceptance. -
I’ve always loved Sad Girl, but I’m really thinking it’s one of Lana’s coolest tracks ever. It’s so underrated and one of her best, actually! Definitely one of my favourites on Ultraviolence.

What song is the “It Girl” of each of Lana’s albums?
IanadeIrey replied to Venice Jesus Whore's topic in Lana Thoughts
Off to the Races Gods & Monsters West Coast Freak Cherry Cinnamon Girl Tulsa Jesus Freak Dealer I’m basically interpreting an It Girl track to mean the sultriest track that is the most “vibey” and almost menacing -
Aw of course! I got you girl!

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
IanadeIrey replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
I remember this! It was from a soundcheck on the Endless Summer tour in Chula Vista! I think she says “you can’t stop” before she says the “change it up” part. I can’t find the original video from the rehearsal, but this video has the exact audio! -
Wow! I just watched the video and both the track and visual are done so beautifully. I love the new production, and, as others have said, it’s overall quite haunting. Lana’s voice kind of floats in like a ghost’s; it’s there, but it’s also not, and her presence feels like a memory for Barrie, who is actually grounded in the song. The bridal figure whose face remains unseen throughout the video makes it all the more haunting, and echoes back to the perspective Lana sings from in Fine China. This track, in a way, has taken on a new meaning 9 years after its creation. It talks to other songs that Barrie and Lana have written about each other, and it makes a song that, at the time, was an earnest love song, quite bittersweet.

I would really love to have been a fly on the wall during the earliest sessions of this record from late 2015 and throughout 2016, where the sound was still in the vein of Honeymoon but with a slightly more ambient atmosphere and endeavoured upon the horror-esque strings in the song, Honeymoon. Songs like — 13 Beaches (without its drums) Young and in Love Lust for Life — Demo 1 The Next Best American Record — Demo Yosemite Heroin Get Free On & On & On I imagine that this would have been a record that sounded straight out of 1969, especially with the references to Manson and the underlying soundscape that suggests a seediness to LA. But that said, I really do like how LFL ended up. It’s such a fresh, hopeful, and summery album!

Here is a double album concept — the elusive “Pacific Blue” project with covers of classics by icons such as Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, and Chris Isaak AND the newly-teased “Country & Western” project featuring American standards/classics and country originals. -

Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll

I think Sweet Carolina! We have evidence she was working on the production for Arcadia on June 10, 2021, and Rob confirmed that Sweet Carolina was recorded live in one take on June 14, 2021, so it seems it was the track that tied the whole record together! -
-
LOL! As I said in the BB thread, I think it’s from last month because SC was recorded on June 14th in one take (so only one session) and Rob posted these images from that one session (where we see him in this floral shirt) — Whereas in these new images from the studio, he’s wearing a different shirt with a Coney Island-inspired print!

I got my standard black vinyl yesterday and gave it a spin, and let me just say…Nectar of the Gods, Living Legend, and Cherry Blossom sound so full and rich in tone. The mastering is incredible this whole record has my heart!
