There is something special about the filter she used because it creates a perfect atmosphere. Lana looks so fragile and broken-hearted in that teaser and the way she sits alone in a chapel, in a wedding dress, with flowers + the fact that she just broke up with Barrie... sorry I just can't

I like it, you're all complaining "Low budget, low budget" Get over yourselves, we're getting a video for Brooklyn Baby and Pretty When You Cry too, so go cry. We'll have more videos. She's in a goddamn wedding dress, people, really. Get over it. Omfg, you're lucky to have 5 (and hopefully more) videos for a record she was unsure about releasing this time last year. Seriously. If she doesn't wanna make a video that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, its her choice to make, not fan-choice.

I, for one, actually like the snippet we got. At least she's working on this record and who knows, we could end up with multiple videos for songs. Has everyone already forgotten last era? Who knows what we'll get for the record.

Alright, so  I thought about making my own Lana Del Rey playlist, because I enjoy a playlist that follows a clear theme and I thought basing it around the story told by Lana during the ride monologue was a perfect fit.

It's basically Lana's released discography (with the exception of AKA) with some outtakes and unreleased songs thrown in. Please let me know what you think! I actually think that it flows very very well, lyrically and sonically.

I chose this title, because I think it's such a nice and beautiful concept. To me this title stand for two things: Being a mistress and being someone else, someone you want to be.
    - Ride (Monologue, Part 1) - Hollywood Florida Kilos Diet Mountain Dew Lolita This Is What Makes Us Girls Carmen - Paradise Lost (Monologue) - Gods & Monsters Money Power Glory Fucked My Way Up to the Top Serial Killer Off to the Races Million Dollar Man Sad Girl Yayo Video Games Lucky Ones Once Upon a Dream Body Electric Dark Paradise - I Sing the Body Electric (Monologue) - Blue Jeans Ultraviolence Born to Die Pretty When You Cry Flipside Cruel World - Ride (Monologue, Part 2) - Ride Angels Forever, Forever Angels You & Me Guns & Roses Black Beauty Shades of Cool Tired of Singing the Blues West Coast Tonight Chelsea Hotel No. 2 - Song of Myself - Cola Brooklyn Baby Summer Wine Summertime Sadness Burning Desire Radio American - Happy Birthday, Mr. President - JFK National Anthem - Monologue of a Broken Heart - Is This Happiness Young & Beautiful Without You - Hotel Sayre - Bel Air Old Money Blue Velvet Because of You The Other Woman Section 1 (Tracks 2-8): "Carmen" - a young teenage girl drives around the US and "relies on the kindness of strangers" to have fun and live a life without consequences. She has dreams of becoming a star one day, but ends up getting lost somewhere in the middle of LA with nowhere and starts drinking.

Section 2 (Tracks 10-15): "The Garden of Evil" - this section follows the whole "Gagansta Nancy Sinatra"/ mafioso bride theme.

Section 3 (Tracks 16-28): "Heaven on Earth" - The protagonist meets a guy, who is so different from her, yet seems like a perfect fit. He is a drug dealer who lives a troubled lifestyle and eventhough she'll "love him till the end of time" she realizes that she has to let him go.

Section 4 (Tracks 30-39): "Open Road" - After loosing everything, Lana has learned what true freedom is. She joins a biker gang and "just rides" looking for freedom, happiness and true love. Her heavy metal love, is a good guy, but he is incapable of loving her.

Section 5 (Tracks 41-50): "The American Dream" - Lana has found true love and escapes with him to chase the American dream. They end up getting what they both dreamt of, which turns out to have consequences for their relationship.

Section 6 (Tracks 52-60): "Marilyn" or "The Other Woman" - The young trouble teenager has become a famous singer and her man an influential politician (Marilyn / JFK). They realize that their lives have become so different that they're not able to live with each other any longer. Lana still loves him and says that she can't live without him, eventhough she has all she ever dreamt of. She has found true love, but her man lives a new life with another woman and tries to keep their realtionship a secret, while Lana an older woman now keeps reflecting on her youth and the way they loved each other. She offers that she'll wait for him to fully return to her. She knows that he'll still love her when she's not young and beautiful anymore but also knows that she'll forever be "The Other Woman".

His pictures get lots of likes so let's see if we shatter his image as LB sex symbol or anything. Also drag him for sending me a formatting nightmare!

Ive seen a lot of hate towards Sad Girl, the opening "triumphant marchy" type melody is so cute, and the jazzy sassy verse is great, and as it makes its way to the chorus "he's got that fiREEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH" and the lyrics are pretty great too, cause they're so clever and true, sure saying I'm a sad girl a few times isn't seen as poetry but you know, everything fits in the song, loving someone even though you have to share them.

you actually all believe that she didn't make up China Palace ?

didn't she mention in a interview that she wrote her first song at the age of 17?

the song title sounds way too kitschy for a 12-year-old girl to invent and also that thing about strawberry daiquiri...
There is a lot of alcohol on her mind lately imo (don't try it Lana) . Oh and China Palace is only a hint for her new Lizzy Grant surf noir album Music To Watch Boys To...

I think UV is definitely about Jimmy ! Call me crazy but here is my Lanalysis:
"deadly nightshade", "loving you is really hard": it wasn't a simple, happy relationship with an ordinary guy. K & Jimmy are the only guys who would've called her like that imo "filled with poison": Lana used to drink a lot of alcohol at this time, so it must be about one of her early realtionships (again K or Jimmy), and we also assumed that they met in rehab "Jim taught me", "your my cult leader" : we've said before that Jimmy inspired her to be a better musician, she used to "stalk" him, so maybe he was like a teacher or idol to her "he hit me and it felt like a kiss", "he hit me but it felt like true love": I don't think this is meant literally, maybe it's more like he wasn't that interested in her in the beginning but she didn't understand his behaviour and was just happy to see him "Jim brought me back", "Jim raised me up": he was her cure in rehab "reminded me when we were kids": the we could be about K & her, we've already figured out that Jimmy probably reminded her of K because both of them had a drug addiction and were "bad boys" "I can hear sirens": again an allusion to K, maybe she left Jimmy because she knew that she couldn't take it to see another boyfriend going to prison as well --> so maybe it was "ultraviolent" for her to leave him ? "I could've died right there": well yes, she had a "bad disease" at that time if you get what I mean "he was right beside me": again rehab ? "we could go back to New York": OMG, they were in rehab together and then they were planning to go back to NY for music perhaps "where they don't know who we are": they are both famous now "I love you forever": she let him come on tour with her

  23. MsQueenR liked a post in a topic by ConeyIslandQueen262 in Lana and Barrie are no longer together
I've always defended their relationship but thb I think it's better when they're going separate ways now. Lana struggles with her own emotions and moods and a boyfriend like Barrie who lives in his own, dark world and might be even depressive doesn't sound like a good influence on her health.

I really hope they don't get together again. Barrie should get some help from an expert and find a girlfriend who is able to cheer him up and Lana should finally grab a hot, rich and famous celebrity who doesn't look like he was hidden in the cellar for years

imagine her and John Mayer together

    he has tattos.
    he plays guitar like God.
    he sings.
    he writes fantastic poetic songs.
he has got the music in him.
    he is older than her.
he covered Video Games when everybody else in the USA hated her.
he can relate to problems with interviewers and the media.
    he isn't obsessed with fame.
--> he is perfect for her

Sorry, this is going to be a long one lol bear with me here.....

So I was watching a documentary about this hippie cult in the 70s in LA called the Source Family. While watching I couldn't help but be slapped in the face with how well it fit in with Ultraviolence. I was connecting dots like a motherfucking pro. I recommend watching it to see what I mean (it's on Netflix USA), or you could read these reviews here to get the gist:..

    http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/movies/2013/05/09/movie-review-the-source-family-crunchy-cult-story/YAGpjim%202kJkLXDVZSE1xeD29L/story.html
    http://thehairpin.com/2013/05/the-source-family

Basically Jim Baker was a very handsome, very charismatic, but notoriously violent man that ran away from his wife and child to LA and founded this cult as Father Yod and had many beautiful young men and women join him to live in "peace, love, drugs and rock and roll". He was popular within Hollywood and was very rich and even robbed banks to fund his vegan restaurant, psychedelic band and his "family"..."He basically turned Sex Drugs and Roll and Roll into a religion" is a quote (paraphrasing) from the film. Kinda sounds like the same church Lana would subscribe to...

From the doc, the first things that popped out at me were:

    1) "He used to call me DN that stood for Deadly Nightshade" sounds just like the people in the documentary talking about their hippie names and what they were called in the commune. Names like Galaxy, Orbit, Harvest Moon, Sunflower etc...

    2) All the references to violence, hitting, etc fit with Jim Baker's history of violence, although I don't know if he was inclined to hit women...

    3) Quite obviously.... "You're my cult leader" = Father Yod

    4) The way she's talking about her Jim in the song is nearly identical to former members of the Source describing what it was like to be around their Jim, saying it was like they felt like they were kids again with him being their really cool rich foster dad who smoked a lot of drugs and lived a hedonistic and open lifestyle. The conditions they lived in despite the cult having lots of money, was near squalor with people living in cubby holes and in some instances being denied medical attention and treatment as it went against their beliefs. A child even reportedly died after being denied treatment for an infection. Jim was very strict with all of his commandments despite all the love he had for his "children". He even broke his own commandment of one woman for every one man when he decided to be polygamous and his original cult wife Ah-Om (aka Robin) said she felt as if he "had skinned her alive" when he took 13 wives. His treatment of Robin was very poor but even now she speaks highly of him and that her love for him took on an otherworldly dimension that was out of her control and listening to her talk about him is very similar to how Lana sings about her Jim in UV.

I think the inspiration from the Source Family could also bleed into the rest of the album, lending to the Southern California psychedelic surf twang throughout, even referencing the polygamy that was going on in SoC:

"And when he calls. He calls for me and not for you"

and what Father Yod was all about:..

"He prays for love, he prays for peace. And maybe someone new"

There might be connections in other songs, I'm still slowly working my way through the album and to be honest I still have the first 5 songs on repeat, so I'm not as familiar with the rest of the album. Oh and I know it probably doesn't mean anything but they reference taking "Black Beauties" in the movie about 10 minutes in.

And with this recent instagram selfie with Chuck with the caption "Sister Wives" the Source just fits a little too well:

    http://instagram.com/p/pF6jVgiZvj/

Not only is Sister Wives a polygamy term, they're even dressed like Father Yod's wives. In fact I'd say Lana's really leaning towards a 70s flower child look this era, wouldn't you? Oh and not to mention... Yod/Jim fits Lana's Daddy type to a tee. Heck they even called him that!  (lol Barrie and his beard actually look like a member of the cult tbh)

    Some pictures....

I don't think all songs are necessarily related to the Source but I think Lana may have been heavily influenced by them along with Jim Morrison, Kurt, Chet Baker, Jim Jones, Jim Beam, etc, and from her own life. Especially since the documentary came out in 2012 when she probably would have started to conceive what her next album would be.

I also believe that she took influence from her own experience with Atlantic Group and how she relates that to the 70s cult experience. To be honest, sometimes I feel like Lana writes songs like she's posting to Tumblr or Pintrest or some shit. Just name checking all the things that influence her and weaving a story around them. Like she's writing her own fan fiction through songs. Actually I still think all the songs written around "Every Man Gets His Wish" are about Lana's life as if it were blended with the movie True Romance. She even took a picture of her and Mike M. compared to Clarence and Alabama so clearly she is identifying with the Character there. It's basically her own blend of reality and fanfiction. But that's a post for another thread lol...

Anyway before I go on and on, because I could with all these "connections" I found in this doc...Has anyone else seen The Source and what are your thoughts on this?
