It's true that the way she describes an album or her music is never really what it sound like, and for the new albums, it's always the tracks she is working on at the moment that she says are the «sound» of it. LFL's 60s girl groups can be heard on the harmonies of Get Free and the title track, but not much elsewhere. She also said LFL would sound like HM, which it does a bit on 13 beaches and Heroin, which were written in first. With NFR, she said it would sound like Change, which was kinda true for the first tracks (Hope, Love Song, HIaB...), but she also said it would have Chili Peppers and surfy vibes, which is not completely false but not completely true either. I didn't know she qualified her music as Hawaiian Glam Metal though. And honestly, I don't get that one...

I’m torn between loving and hating deluxe editions. She hates them because it kinda changes the narrative of the album and she is one of the few artists nowadays whose albums always tell a story. BTD and UV’s stories do end with the last track of the standard edition; the only project where the bonus track doesn’t change the narrative is Paradise with Burning Desire. So I prefer no deluxe editions to her albums. However, we also got stellar tracks from Deluxe editions, like Lucky Ones, Black Beauty, Flipside and Is This Happiness... I’m not sure about the rejects from NFR and LFL though. She could keep them for an Unreleased collection for the next years, especially if they don’t fit the narrative of COCC.

A single along with the preorder + art cover + tracklist reveals would be nice. She usually does have a preorder with a single along with it, except for NFR (but nothing made sense with the release : we had three “fan tracks”, the preorder and then a double release before the album). Usually, the lead is a already out and the preorder comes with a promo single, but I don’t see two singles before the album’s release.

I see the audiobook coming early in July only for Grammy noms. To me, Violet’s real release is Sept 28. So COCC’s release being Sept 5 makes more sense. And maybe this is why the audio forms of Violet will only be out in October, so the preorders for COCC will be out along with the release of the album on steaming?

When I saw the flanel shirt, it brought a couple of questions, but not about cultural appropriation, but much more about: who the fuck wears flanel in summer, in California?!? Isn’t she sweating like a pig in that?

And let’s not forget it’s her we’re talking about : she has a tendency of posting things once and thinking this is crystal clear (like not saying Sylvia was renamed, posting a snippet of it saying that HIADTFAWLMTH-BIHI is out January 8 or 9, or dropping COCC’s Name, but having us wondering if it was the possible name of the audiobook, which it wasn’t). She already gave us the release date, so I guess she doesn’t see the point of adding anything up until the preorder. August is likely to start teasing the new album. She wanted a small release all along, wanting a « surprise drop ». With Violet out and her minimalist plans, it would be fitting to start teasing the project not very long before its release. I understand what you mean. I reread the posts that some of you put out and your points were valid. It’s true that LFL and NFR and even HM didn’t have much controversy to talk about, unlike the « I wish I was dead already » misquote of the UV era, for example. But I wonder what controversy you would her to sing about (it’s really a genuine question, because the way I see how she is living these days, I wonder what could be controversial enough for her to sing that wouldn’t feel dishonest or forced).

I agree with you. To me, there are hints of saying FU to everyone on NFR: fresh out of fucks forever, I fucked up but Jesus, can a girl just do the best she can? I don’t think she held back anything on NFR, she just didn’t have anything controversial to write about. And anyways, I wouldn’t want her to write about « false controversy for the sake of it ». It would feel forced. A bit like when Madonna became « woke » with American Life and it not her best album. I don’t want a whole song being about « Fuck you guys, I don’t take shit from no one. »

BTD and Paradise don’t have any mis apps lyrically that I can recall. All of her other albums have some lines that aren’t perfect. But hey, you have your whole life to write your first album. Writing the other ones can be tricky. NFR does have some of the stories that I love the most though. HM had some of her strongest lyrics (The Blackest Day, Terrence, MTWBT...) and some that are a bit weaker like you mentioned (same with LFL). The Greatest is one of my top Lana songs and just the title of the new album gives me strong « The Greatest » vibes, so imagine how excited I am about it.

Yes, I read the posts and they do contain some valid points. I perhaps went too fast, made some shortcuts to express what I wanted, and probably didn’t stay on topic. I still don’t think she played it safe on NFR, lyrically speaking. Maybe she didn’t have anything to say that could be controversial. She sure didn’t feel angry during that period and some of her most controversial posts or songs seem to come from a lot of anger. But I don’t feel she held back anything on that album or wrote to please people. I’m curious for the lyrics on COCC, since she already told us some may not like what she says.
