Just came across this. It's her 27th birthday, she's obviously sick with a cold, and she swears on live BBC radio in the morning and doesn't acknowledge it. She talks about criticism from American journalists and how she is perceived as a writer. Then, she teased the non-existent "Dark Paradise" video. She goes on to tease future concepts in Paradise/Tropico with Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg's "Howl". THEN, she sings the iconic snippet of "Time of the Season" by The Zombies. Three days later she performed at BBC Radio 1's Hackney weekend and did the famous "Million Dollar Man" performance. I can't imagine living in this period of Del Rey (I was 11)

Finally got around to listening to this album, and wow! What a breeze to listen to. Start to finish it is near perfect and every song is melodically infectious. I think I prefer the Rush demo, though. That might be my only complaint lol In My Room, Got Me Started, and Honey are my favs right now

I am not trans but the song is super unapologetically queer and is ahead of its time. Queer anthem but people don’t pay attention to the lyrics. Same with YMCA by Village People! This lyric, to me, affirms that the singer (Ray Davies) can see that Lola is a confident human who appears to be the only one in the world who has a grasp on their life, considering the world around them. And I think he sees her confidence as something to behold. Things were hectic and topsy-turvy in the late 60s early 70s but it was also around the time that counterculture, queer rights, and women’s rights had finally come to a head so I think he’s just trying to place Lola as someone who knows what they are (a cross-dresser or trans woman) amidst a rapidly-changing society Obviously there are parts of the song where the specific words he uses may be disrespectful nowadays. But it is one of the greatest songs of all time!

This thread has maintained its civility for the most part and am always happy to see ongoing discussion, learning, and data being shared amongst one another. Props to the majority of you for keeping this thread on track and civil. I often feel informed and can rely on many of you to share news stories on what’s going on in the region as this horrific war continues to unfold. That being said, I’ve noticed some users purposefully oversimplifying the topic at hand at various times. I’ve of course also seen the disgusting name-calling, which is so childish considering the real-life consequences the larger issue at hand has caused. Learning from one another and listening to - or at the very least acknowledging - one another’s perspective should be what goes on here. Disagreement is expected, but respect goes a long way. It is tantamount to fostering a healthy dialogue. I understand that this issue is personal to some of you. I understand the passion that is behind some of these posts. I just ask for people to be reasonable. I will be warning those who have contributed to the hostility in this thread. If you can’t be nice, if you’re going to resort to name-calling, if you’re going to grossly oversimplify the war for personal purposes, then I recommend not commenting on the thread at all. There are places for more heated or vapid discussions other than Lanaboards. Please reach out if you’d like to discuss anything further!
