Dozens have even been killed in the West Bank, where Israeli settlers have started a KKK-like campaign against Palestinian citizens. Joe Biden says he has “no confidence” in the amount of dead that Palestine has reported. Israel did not originate from that area. Palestine was there first by far - the two-state solution was proposed after WWII because of the Holocaust and many displaced Jews. Israel’s command over the region continued to grow and displace Palestinians. To know a bit more about that whole situation, read up on settlers and how they took over (and continue to take over) Palestinian homes Also - yes - a two-state solution would be the most meaningful and obvious way of settling things. It hasn’t been ever approved because of many difficulties (both states want control of Bethlehem/Jerusalem + other grievances and past history) and Palestine is split between two territories, which are divided by Israel. What happened this month is basically a culmination of 75 years of occupation and apartheid. The fact that anybody is shocked that this happened… like just total ignorance. Some people are under the ridiculous impression that the Palestinians “elected” Hamas and are therefore complicit in the attacks - or that they should be held responsible for putting them in power. The last election in Palestine was in 2006. 7% of today’s Palestinian citizens voted for Hamas. 50% of today’s Palestinian citizens are under the age of 18. I think it comes down to people being grossly miseducated. There is a 75-year history of occupation on Palestinian land by Israel, which has been supported and acknowledged by most Western nations (as well as Egypt) for the better half of a century. The only logical way to resolve this conflict - in a way that protects the lives of both current and future Israelis and Palestinians - is to call for an immediate ceasefire and for there to be an established UN commission that lets Palestine become free from Israel and form its own government - not one that’s been imposed upon them by Israel for the last 15+ years

This is what makes me realize she more or less had a choice to sign one of the two letters. And imo she made the wrong one, alongside the most boring neoliberal losers in Hollywood
