"American Standards & Classics" Cover Album - Pre-Pre-Release Thread
takeitdoen replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
Yes, this is the huge problem. Her credibility really took a hit at one of her public images' lowest points when she doubled down on her question for the culture, told every hater to fuck off and promised she was going in guns blazing with a new album on 5 Sept, and then she didn't release Chemtrails, the date passed by and she finally said a off-the-cuff shitty non-comment to imply it was delayed (and didn't clarify to when). After NFR's year-long fuck around, I decided that all things Lana said would be with a grain of salt, but with the audacity she had on display this year I didn't think she would be okay with being called disingenous (or at worst, a LIAR) - but apparently she didn't care about her word or transparacy (again). SO a few months later, promising to release a different album and not coming through again is really painful. I am not extremely invested in the repertoire, but I like the musical direction and have a sliver of hope she will follow through on her own word - although each day passing looks less and less likely and I CAN'T BELIEVE I GAVE HER THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AGAIN. Like, anything could be considered an album (or EP, it could be like 6 tracks and would be fine) but I'm not sure I could ever trust her with anything again if she can't get this out on time. She clearly has SOME material finished so come on Lana, throw up whatever you have on Spotify or BANDCAMP, say that the handful of songs are a gift for your fans, and keep to your word! -
We should bump a few more dead topics from 7 years ago. This one is a corker!

"American Standards & Classics" Cover Album - Pre-Pre-Release Thread

@Angelic Tropico you have truly exposed me for the brat I am. I just hate incompetance and simply don't find your lazy rationale good enough when there is ample information readily available all across the forum and the internet to define this. There is even a Search Bar in the top right corner, which I use to make sure I'm not repeating a question. I made a joke about people not being able to use Google as you were the most recent of a line of many people that requested an answer, and you interpreted that into a personal attack on yourself. Correct, I am under no obligation to answer someone and I actually really want Elle to edit her post and put it on there as it keeps coming up. By the way, It's on the first page, and second page (not the third page though, sorry), and You could probably just Google it I am honestly very sorry that my humour translates as flippant and abrasive. But as this is Lanaboards I think you're in for a shock if you don't anticipate a level of dry humour. I am flip-flopping over what level of ATTiTuDe to give you but I hope this exchange makes you a bit more resilient to online discussion as if people ask the same questions over and over in real life it gets really, really annoying and makes you look totally hapless. I will continue this over private message if you want to fight a bit more or you can report my posts to the moderating team but this is the last time I will respond here as it seems we just have different interpretations of what is good enough when it comes to finding out information, and unlike a definition, this is subjective based on our own ethics. I look forward to you asking more questions in other threads on takeitdoenboards. -
"American Standards & Classics" Cover Album - Pre-Pre-Release Thread

Girl, chill. I am Australian - so as a fellow non-American, I also did not possess intrinsic knowledge about the 'weird ass American songbook'. Until I Googled it - specifially the term that Lana used when she said she would release “a digital record of American standards and classics for Christmas”. So I googled "what are american standards & classic songs" and the top result is Wikipedia. Which you actually asked for when you said Sorry if the 'attitude' offends you but I'm actually referring to attitude in general, as we have actually discussed the definition multiple times already in this thread so but now you bring it up yeah I don't know why you get a free pass to just drop in and ask what it is without doing any research or putting in the effort yourself. I guess, but also to quote the Great American Songbook Foundation: Add that to her release of Summertime which is from Porgy and Bess, and saying she wanted to include Patsy Cline covers the era is just so obvious?? And to answer your question, Puttin' On the Ritz would be considered a classic (and is actually in the Great American Songbook) -

YOU KNOW I LIVE FOR THE TINSEL I just can't get OVER the fact she has a sense of humour. omfg I love her. BREATHLESS is such an inventive cover!!

She looked lovely and happy which is such a nice conclusion to this weird year. She sounded really lovely on Silent Night. Top marks! Ahahahaha though omg I really don't know why she sang Let Me Love You etc, it's like we now in addition to the scrappy video and the Fallon broadcast we now have a Christmas music video version too?? Mixing was not good but she sounded great. The song is really growing on me. As a side note, I really prefer the trio of incredible singers to her backing vocals. If nothing else beyond adding texture to her work, the composition of the words gets really muddled when she is singing "Let me hold you like a baby" and the backing vocals sing "Take you to infinity". Otherwise it sounds like "Let me take you to infinity" and "Let me take you like a baby" . . .

Chile, I had a Zoom meeting this morning. 'Zoom backgrounds back when that was a thing' as in when people were obsessed with customising their backgrounds for like 5 minutes in April/May because honestly who is genuinely putting fake backgrounds on. As one final warning to those who would play with such fire: Ps @boom like that this is the thread!

Honeymouns used to have an exquisite post up on his account which included a number of hilarious photos in a post captioned 'Top 10 Cursed Lana del Rey photos'. Sadly his account is down for the moment, so I wanted to share these amazing shots here for longevity since I nabbed a few of them to make hilarious Zoom backgrounds back when that was a thing. I didn't manage to save them all so please add you own or any others that you think quality as a cursed image! What is a cursed image? From Urban Dictionary: Without further ado, I present to you some of my favourites! Dining al fresco I think she was holding a card in this one? You're a WIZARD, Lana. Let them eat cake. Blurry horror: I can't believe this is real?? Bodysnatcher Is that James Franco on the left . . .

So, that wasn't live at all. Love the back up singers though. I hope they stay for a looooong time. She looks so good. The outfit is weird af but she looks so gorgeous. This is also so much better than the official music video. The mixing on the instrumentation is a bit better too. Overall I think it was a great performance even if it really was just a music video. I'm surprised she is so bad at lipsynching? Summertime was unusually bad but this is just as a weird....

@wild caged animal I am a really big fan of you, but it's really counterproductive to say something inflammatory (and irrelevant) to coincide with your opinion, sprinkle a GIF on top and think you've won an argument. This is the equivilient of saying I hate music from the 40s because that's when the atom bomb was made, or I hate music from the 80s because that's when AIDS originated - it just has no correlation to the quality of the music at the time. It would be much better if you discussed which characteristics or hallmarks exactly you dislike about music from the 30s, rather than deferring to arbitary world issues (racial ones no less). People go on and on about how they apparently 'hate' old timey music, jazz, and songs from musicals but never say why? Is it the instrumentation and orchestration? The structure? The tempo and musicality? Do you think the composers are hacks, or the lyrics are dumb? It could be any or a combination but the answer definitely isn't 'segregation'. You look extremely disingenous not understanding that positionality and just telling people to calm down, and this is why people are not letting the usual random comments slide. I'm sorry if you feel attacked, this is all just originating from people who are legitimiately looking forward to the record and are wanting people to just let us enjoy this extra material as it comes. I'm really happy to continue this conversation over DM or in another topic (just tag me) but please don't keep digging yourself into a hole and not discussing MUSIC in this thread. -

That's a really arbitrary comment, seeing as the civil rights movement - and the initial steps towards the fight against racism in America - continued well into the 70s with the Black Power Movement (the decades you said you care about). Are you just using that as an excuse to say you don't like jazz staples, big band and old time musicals? Because I've got bad news, the canonical works for the American Songbook goes from the 20s to the 50s. -

Hey! For everyone who is bitching about the covers album, can you fucking get over yourselves and just accept that it's another side project just like her poetry. It might not appeal to you but 1) like all music it appeals to some people and 2) it's happening and 3) Chemtrails is still going to be released and there is no evidence that this side project is impacting on its release at all? It's literally just extra material so why the fuck is everyone complaining about nothing (as usual)? -
Gurl wot? I'm actually not following - firstly that looks like a random highway motel with no indication of what it looks like inside. Also, what makes you sure that Clay was also there and that's the same place? But I'm really not following the progression of it being for the Fallon performance or that Clay is involved in that? Or are you saying two separate things?
