  2. Orchestrated album (arranged by John Metcalf or someone similar), or a 'Best of' done with a string quartet and piano. Similar to what her original accompaniments were like on the 2012 tours. (a sidenote on this one - when she starts singing and the then can't stop smiling when they start clapping! so cute!!) Would love to hear it with these songs: Terrance Loves You Ultraviolence Black Beauty Honeymoon Change Love How to Disappear The Next Best American Record (with original lyrics ofc)
  3. Love these lyrics on that song: I've got things to tell you like I KNOW THAT YOU'RE A LIAR! (also, the oboe playing behind??? BIZARRE AND WONDERFUL!) You had me caged up like a bird in MIDSUMMER Running fast from something with my eyes wide like SAUCERS SPINNING IN THE SUN Your lies were hot kisses in the summer Dreaming of the water where I'd rise like a phoenix You had me so tied up, thinking there's no other! Yeah, right! YEAH RIGHT!! Such a banger. I think it would've benefited from being like 5% faster in its tempo but it's a really cool song, and showcases a good mix of the cinematic orchestration with her multi-layered vocals.
  4. Pawn Shop Blues! I have to admit even I overlooked this for such a long time before it autoplayed after another video recently and I properly listened to it. I was soooo struck by the soft guitar and very earnest lyrics before being taken by the really quasi-romantic accompaniment. My favourite line is "I don't mind living on bread and oranges" since it follows up the idea of living so low below the poverty line that she traded in something so special and decadent (her earrings) because she needed to move on so quickly. And the bridge! The synths mixed with the strings, the mandolin and the accordion are surprisingly inspired choices to back up her resolute attitude - "I can do this once more - no man can keep me together". What a special, sad little song. Alarming to think that it's followed with stripper rave Brite Lites.

    Very sad to hear about the court rejection, especially now that it's on public record how afraid she is of him. The relationship would be strained so much further now.

  7. THIS MADES ME WANT TO SCREAM AND CRY. Dragon Age really fucking turned a corner when this blares over the speakers omg. Trevor Morris was specifically brought in to transform the feel of the Dragon Age universe and it was like a breath of fresh air. Jeremy Soule is one of my favourite composers for video games (and maybe in general) - surprisingly none of these instruments are real but he brings an excellent influence of Caucus and Afrikaans flavour to this neglected score. this simply IS iconic. Another Jeremy Soule. Partly nostalgic, but even listening now I'm so impressed with how luscious the orchestration is. Many people are not aware that the 'Elder Scrolls theme' (which is actually the Morrowind theme) wasn't always the tune of the series - prior to Oblivion, all the works had original numbers, this being for Redguard. I wish I could hear a real orchestra play this forgotten gem!!! Jeremy Soule on a fucking roll - he wrote this, KOTOR and Morrowind all within the same through years. There is something beautiful, powerful, whimsical and magical in his theme. iconic! fun fact, this was the first iteration of the game where this theme was played on real instruments! subtle but brilliant subversion of the main theme with beautiful simplicity that still makes it cinematic. "You were deafened" "You were broken" "You were whole" "You were blinded" "and at last you saw" this stunning number is etched in my brain forever. such a stoic lament. also one of the greatest video games speeches/writings ever. Maclaine Dulcimer breaths new life into the Guild Wars series with this - while I love Jeremy Soule, his works can sometimes fit into any broad term of 'fantasy'. Maclaine's theme has a sense of urgency, malice, and drama. This is the best entry for the series. ICONIC and brilliant - this piece is gorgeous and extremely well orchestrated but also manages to tie in so many important themes from the entire score into it. Love hearing the iterations of them throughout the series. and of course THE ORIGINAL AND BEST theme of all time for a video game. ETA: Special mention to this BITCH!

  13. The whole soundtrack is amazing! Yo Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman - I'm a litttttle surprised it lost the Oscar to fucking borefest Brokeback Mountain but I guess it's just the Oscars, no one cares. The Chairman's Waltz is so bloody iconic too, it's certainly the best part of the movie (which feels like such a sad slap in the face). also Hans Zimmer fans - he's never gone as loud or powerful as this ever since.
  14. I luuuuv soundtracks. I don't even know where to start. GREAT picks in here already. @DCooper Laura's Theme is an EXQUISITE pick omfg. The nostalgia that brings back and the imagery it conjures. Dark Space Low actually seomtimes brings tears when I sit and reflect and remember how tragic and doomed Laura is. @jvcx amazing choices and fuck YES to Ryuichi Sakamoto!! So glad his score was in The Revenant since I wasn't there for anything else. lawl.Also Michael Abels' score for Us was super under rated. The Pas de Deux scene was like a cherry on top of the movie. @MAX DEL REY John Williams for Star Wars! omg! I love the entire Phantom Menace score. The space opera orchestration is what I'm all about and is basically on par with Strauss' work. I'm addicted to Rey's Theme. My favourites are mostly BIG and POWERFUL stuff, for me a big main theme or many reoccuring motifs are what seal the deal. I also love strings since I'm a basic bitch but grand orchestration also takes the cake. And yes, I include some animated works with songs in them because their themes are arguably the most enduring and powerful of all (Prince of Egypt is one that does this particularly well).     His new album S16 was released a few days a go. On a first listen I like it. It's dramatic and dark, very romantic orchestration and a lot more subdued than The Golden Age.
  17. I can't remember if I posted this previously but I am really loving Pang at the moment, it's such a great mix of interesting textures and sounds, but brilliant pop as well. Just listened to The Gate extended and it's super spacey and ethereal, and a track that if you cue it up serves as kind of the perfect closer for the album.
  18. The video made me like the song more. I feel she is very proud of her growth and this feels like a personal insight and like a diary into how she feels when she's on the road and has no one to channel her love into, so she surrounds herself with people who love her to remind her how she feels. Like the song it's not groundbreaking but it feels authentic and wholesome. On a side note, it feels like she used 1SE to make this.
  19. The song is pleasant. The lyrics actually reminds me a lot of I Talk to Jesus, especially in the sentiment of 'I want to get out of this life and I want you to come with me' feel. I'm not sure why people are raving about the 'bridge'. Other than some (weak) head-voice vocals it just goes back to the chorus. Nothing remarkable happens with the accompaniment and the chord progression doesn't change so it just a non-event.
