The only complaints I have are that the verses and the chorus don't really go together and the first verse sucks.

I really like the live version though.

If she releases Ultraviolence the album earlier or at the same time as West Coast the single then I don't think it's a stupid marketing decision to release the single May 18, just a pragmatic one, but I never understood the logic of releasing singles before the album, tbh. On the other hand no Ultraviolence till well after the West Coast release as a single wouldn't make sense to me.

The song is interesting as a departure for her (one wonders how many departures she has). It's not a bad song, but doesn't exceed the best of her leaks for me. There's an intentional retro vibe a la Summer Wine and possibly the Doors (a la the familiar snythetic moog-flute like sound at the end). The vocal arrangements are good. How it fits with the whole of the UV sound is the next mystery to be revealed.

The verses are awful, sorry. I might end up liking the song after a while cause I loved the chorus but honestly the verses feel choppy and unimaginative... I hate the you got the music in you sounds like a teeny pop song

This song is giving me Venus vibes. Stupid repetitive verses, choppy changes from vers to chorus. A nice chorus that doesn't fit the rest of the song.

I'm sorry if I'm spreading my negativity here, but I'm really afraid that I might actually hate her new album and will have to listen to someone/something else instead.

Yeah same. It's like she's tried to pull off the loud/soft, fast/slow dynamic of two very famous bands... but hasn't and failed miserably it sounds like a right mess. Hoping the rest is way better than this.

I'm not sure profound is the right word for Lana's lyrics in the same context as Dylan and Cohen. Dylan and Cohen are political artists, I don't think her writing is anything like theirs

Obviously not Nirvana's opinion, it was their choice and a good one, along with the amazing Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and St. Vincent. Besides Lana is an Axl Rose fan they ain't going any where near that
it was Nirvana's night, so be happy for them given the most important person to them wasn't there, it's not all about Lana it's about Nirvana and Kurt.

I just don't see the comparison, they are both very post war political writers, whereas Lana's writing is more about 'her' personal issues particularly relationships, that's not political. Just cause she likes Cohen and Dylan it doesn't mean she has the same writing style. Perhaps her lyrics seem profound on an emotional level but they are not intellectually profound. TBH there's not one song of Lana's that compares emotionally or intellectually to the lyrical quality of say Suzanne or Bird on a Wire, if there is let me know. But that's my opinion, I think she's doing her own thing she's from a different era to them, it's so different to them, yeah I just don't get it.
