It seems like she wanted to beat Gaga at her own game (back when she was the one to beat), or at least entertained the idea -- "Noir" in particular has a Gaga-mocking quality to it

Lana Del Rey to be covered in American Horror Story

Quite obviously, but ... https://twitter.com/MrRPMurphy/status/525105891817693184 The twins murder their mother when they want to watch Singin' in the Rain, the song that Alex sings in A Clockwork Orange, clearly representing Lana's unquenched passion for a bit of the Ultraviolence -
Lana Del Rey to be covered in American Horror Story

Sarah Paulson's character represents the complexity of Lana's relationship to fame, wherein the dark, brooding twin just wants to die, while the light, outgoing twin is the one who wants to become a singing star. But it is the dark twin that is the real source of her singing talent. -

Anyone complaining about Lange's monotone singing hasn't heard Marlene Dietrich http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ5n6EMgPq0 -
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/08/celebrity-doppelgangers-lady-gaga-lana-del-rey_n_1948842.html In the month of the disappearance of the Malaysian airline, Lady Gaga's GUY video featured a brunette phoenix falling from the sky, before being resurrected as a blonde in Hollywood. At the same time, Lana Del Rey was photographed diving into the waters of Marina Del Rey for her "West Coast" video. Ingmar Bergman's Persona (1966) is the story of two girls, one blonde, one brunette, who in reality are only one girl. Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana (2006) is the story of one girl who masquerades as two girls, Hannah Montana and Miley Stewart. Gaga and Lana are likewise two hemispheres of a single archetypal feminine principle; one which directs itself outward into phenomenal play (being "born this way" and fashionable), one which directs itself inward into melancholy reflection (dye your hair a darker shade, to suit the mood of your soul). Only one of these personae can be So Legit. Therefore, whenever Gaga goes brunette, it only figures that she would then start to mimic her brunette alter-ego.

I just noticed that she mentions the Florida Keys at the end of "Axl Rose Husband" "Guns and Roses" -> "Florida Kilos" The Lanaverse is more detailed and complex than Tolkien, I swear
-
I'm fascinated by how perfectly Lana seems to understand her own archetypal role
-
Her usage can still be read as referring to dualism in one person. And that is why her lyrics often have a touch of genius.

Outside and Heathen are highly underrated In order of sound quality: Bowie on vinyl > RCA CDs > 40th Anniversary remasters > Rykodisc remasters > 1999 EMI plastic trash

If even her fans are saying this ... if she wanted it to sound like this, maybe Lana should be kept as far away from the mastering console as possible; it definitely needs about +6db treble to sound right Or just throw the 96/24 vinyl FLAC on a CD and call it "remastered" The strings on "Ultraviolence" are a mellotron, aren't they? Even here, compare the version in the video to the CD version; on the latter the drums are squashed out of existence and have no punch

Keep in mind "Yayo" dates back to 2007 at least

Maybe she'll pull a Kate Bush and we can catch her on the comeback tour in 2049

UV sounds "heavy" on digital because the EQ is extremely imbalanced (as said before); there is too much bass and not enough treble -- fortunately, you can either track down the vinyl or use a custom EQ setting (Treble Booster, etc.). It's a brilliant album on vinyl though, so many unique analog textures give it a sense of timelessness and replayability.

Reminder that Pitchfork Music Festival booked R. Kelly as its headlining act in 2013 http://www.wbez.org/blogs/jim-derogatis/2013-07/pitchfork-2013-here-we-are-now-entertain-us-108129 lbr as someone who used to follow Pitchfork and the indies scene, the majority of the music they ever pushed was overhyped indie landfill sludge; I mean, who here still listens to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah? Thus we can understand reviewers' ultimate insecurity over the legitimacy of their journalism as arbiters of taste, effectively projecting their own shadowy neuroses and doubts onto innocent chanteuses
