[Verse 1]
Don't be that way
Don't you pretend
You're not awake
When you know you are
I see the way
You're lying there
I know you can't
Be very far
God wouldn’t do that
He knows how I feel
I can’t go through that
And so it’s not real
[Chorus]
Life is still so beautiful
Life is still so beautiful
[Verse 2]
Don't be so still
You never are
You like to play
Your soul's on fire
I don't believe this is the end
And I still feel your heart's desire
God couldn’t do that
He knows you belong
To me and me only
And so I’ll be strong
[Chorus]
Life is still so beautiful
Life is still so beautiful
Come on boy, let's go
We can hit the road
We don't have to say
Where we're going
We can go anywhere
We can go anywhere
We can go anywhere
Right now
[Chorus]
Life is still so beautiful
Life is still so beautiful

i just hope the new album will be different, lyrically. i trust the music will be great as i love pretty much every song i've heard by lana, but i'm craving new subject matter! next fall sounds perfect but i'm kinda doubtful. an EP sometime before the new album would also be very welcome

To fuel up the jazz/not really jazz debate:
As we've all seen from Ultraviolence, Lana will do whatever she likes to any type of music she feels like it. My best prediction is that she won't go 100% jazz but still influenced by it. Best example would be The Other Woman cover - she incorporated her unique style into the song, made it a lot different to Nina's version. She has always not been fit into a particular type of music, and made up her own name for them (Surf Noir, etc.) so it would probably the same for Honeymoon.
@@leaked_version: Being a spontaneous artist, I don't think you can't expect Lana to go mainstream, she will do whatever she likes. To be honest I think the fact that she is with Interscope is just faith. (EDITED: or maybe Interscope thinks that indie is the new mainstream)

Yeah I always thought those lyrics were off, but maybe she didn't feel more inspired than that by this bit.. Dunno..

How did I never hear this before now?!! Was it a bonus on the regular U/V? I have the deluxe edition, and it's definitely not on there. Not complaining, though, as I really needed to hear this today, and it came like a gift! I wish Lana would do more "piano and voice" songs. And those lyrics! Possibly one of Lana's most perfect songs, which says a lot.

Kind of a sad song, but it sounds so cute. I also really like the chirping birds added around the second verse.

It's unfortunately iTunes only. And it's definitely an important song in her oeuvre.

This song makes me cry every time I hear it. And Lana needs more piano ballads, they really work with her voice.

It should be obligatory to quote this line when asking Lana to take your picture with her in the front row. -

This song has been growing on me, but I have to repeat from another thread that there are certain lines in songs that capture a person or a situation so densely and perfectly, and
are just about the best statement of Lana's whole body of work, bringing to life her, her partner and the room they're in within a few mundane sounding words.

Honestly, I actually changed my mind, I am on the fence between whether she's singing...
"Got your gun, I got my Dad,"
OR
"Got your gun, I got my debt,"
Only because it fits perfectly with the first verse saying she's a hard woman to keep track of, and the basic context of the song. She's crafted all this art from the inspiration of her experiences. She's got all these dark spots in her mind and heart from the tribulations she's endured, and they've driven her ambitions so much despite leaving her vulnerable all the same. After channeling that vulnerability, her experiences were invalidated by critics and pessimistic slags; it left a dent in her motivation and left her doubting her inspiration, which makes her unhappy. The total opposite experience of what showing humility and candor should do for her.
Her art is her life, and it all amounts to something for her, even if it never meant much to anyone else. But being invalidated by people who don't want understand, who just want to coldly project who they think she is/should be, she's experienced a crippling self-doubt, and may regret trusting her inspirations to bring her happiness.
"Witch hazel, witch hazel,
betrayal, betrayal."
It won't change her art though. She's paying her life for everything that brought her to this point, without rejecting any of it. She cares that people do that to her, but she's just exhausted; if fame or happiness amounted to being left so vulnerable, tired and damaged as a person and writer, she doesn't want it, and she won't fight being taken away from it all.
I'm having an existential crisis listening to this song.

'Witch hazel, witch hazel, betrayal, betrayal'
I don't know why but something about those lyrics gives me chills. An enchanting and bewitching song, one of my favourites from the album (but that's quite a big club at the moment )
Definitely reminds me a bit of Everytime too, but it's much darker, I love it.

You like to rage
Don't do that
You want your way
You make me so mad
Gotcha gun, I've got my Dad.
High up in the Hollywood hills
Crushing violet pills
You've been trying to write a novel 'bout your cheap thrills—
You think you're Hunter S. Thompson;
I think you're fucking crazy as the day's long.
On a side note, Hunter S. Thompson was also a writer that very much enjoyed blurring the lines between fact and fiction when portraying himself in his work, and also loved the idea of self-destruction. Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas are two of his many works.
Also, let's discuss how Barrie might look like a younger Hunter if he went bald and beardless (not that I ever want him to.)

I hear ' Motel, sweet breeze & I'm singing'. But I'm sure that's not really accurate

She has a lot of things from American Apparel - I bought the shirt she wears on the Born To Die cover ... over my price range, but I love it.
There are a few sites that track her clothing, but nothing really solid. Here is a good link, although there are others I can't recall atm. Her perfume is Creed and lipstick Yves St. Laurent.

Bootynugget liked a post in a topic by Lily in How Do You Relate To Lana ...
... or do you? Does it play a role in how you appreciate her music?
For me, I started out just loving her voice, but at some point I became - let's face it - obsessed. I found I could relate to her and her music on many levels, but there were SO many things I could not relate to that I found fascinating because they were so different from me.
Ways I relate to her:
Her undercurrents of depression, understanding of loss, deep love, falling for dark and sad men, fascination with death, love of Whitman, similar age, love of the 1950s, need to have alone time yet doesn't like to be alone, health issues, ability to maintain love for someone who no longer loves you back.
Ways I don't relate:
Her past alcohol and drug use, living on the edge, her independence at a very young age, her apparent sexual history seems kind of wild, hip hop references, love of Brittany Spears.
But no matter what, everything she does is interesting to me and adds to the legend that is Lana the Queen. What about you?!

I am so in love with these two songs, I can't even find the right words. I feel like Lana went above and beyond what was required of her. The songs fit the story, yet they ring personal, as well. WOW WOW WOW ... Lana is finally getting the credit she deserves. To be commissioned by Tim Burton is a huge deal, and she did NOT disappoint.

I Can Fly is superior and reminds me of Kate Bush's This Woman's Work.

From interviews, we know that whoever K. was, he lived with her in a trailer park, lived a double life, was most likely arrested, most likely died, was handsome and magnetic, and told her she was the "most exotic thing he'd ever seen." There are also many references to a "golden grill" - be it symbolic or true.
SOooo, with that in mind!
We know for sure there is
For K.
For K. pt. 2
From interviews, we know we can add
Born to Die
Video Games
Blue Jeans
as she stated those were all for the same person - most likely "the same God-damned person" she says she writes for.
What else?!
My theories, based on the lyrics and repetitive words, would include (with keywords):
Dark Paradise (he's dead, and it seems K is dead or on death row, so this fits)
Queen of Disaster ("golden grill")
I Still Love Him (from the description, something tells me this is about K. and not JFK)
Backfire (the reference to Sid and Nancy seems to be a theme in K. songs; "in our trailer park for two")
Without You (like Dark Paradise, the death theme fits here - and she cries EVERY time she sings it live)
Million Dollar Man ("you said I was the most exotic flower" ... everything else makes sense, too)
Off To The Races (maybe a stretch ... the mention of gold coins makes me think of gambling, and Video Games has hints of gambling, as well)
From the lyrics of all these songs, my theory is that K. was white (I've seen theories he was black, which FITS, but then how is he like "James Dean for sure"?); that he was either a gambler, drug dealer, or in a gang; was arrested for robbery then again for "double homicide"; is either on death row, committed suicide in prison ("heading off for death row; didn't stick around, no")
Some other possibilities:
Young And Beautiful
The Man I Love
