Aaaand now she's saying it's because she was protective of Frances

I think it's such shit that everyone says Lana can't possibly be depressed and it's just a persona because why, she's rich and pretty? And she's said many times that she thinks heroes/famous rock stars are more useful alive than dead but everyone just ignores half of what she says, takes her words out of context and then repeats it over and over like it's the holy truth.

Perfect - get the publicity and then stop short of having to stand by your words

I actually find it a little funny that she says that Lana is a woman "who doesn’t even know what feminism is, who believes women can do whatever they want" and then derides her for that. Like, yes, that actually is kind of a part of feminism. Yes, equal pay and rights are part of it, but so is a woman being able to make her own decisions. It seems like Kim doesn't know what feminism is.

Kim should still take responsibility for the early draft of the quote. It got online, Lana Del Rey definetly has seen it or heard about it by this point, Kim needs to be an adult and apologise.

At least in the modified paragraph we can take her arguments seriously. I still disagree though. What troubles me is that Kim perpetuates the mentality that everything Del Rey says and does is an act, belittling her pain and experiences. Of course there's no denying that she incorporates her fantasies into her writing, but it's dangerous to assume that Lana keeps this "persona" on 24/7 and ignore her genuine moments of hardship as if she's putting it on in keeping with her image. I've seen poolside, she's not that great an actress.
Kim also tries to convince us Lana doesn't understand feminism. Lana never said she wasn't a feminist, the most she said was that she wasn't interested in discussing the subject and she even described her own feminist ideals. But these days that's all it takes to anger the public, who exaggerate her words to make her seem like some pathetic idiot who doesn't care about her own rights, which was the exact opposite of what Lana said.

I'm not saying Lana Del Rey is suicidal, but she's clearly unhappy, or at least was at the time of the Guardian interview. Can you imagine how frustrating it must be for people to constantly misconstrue everything you say or do as a planned publicity stunt to fit your gimick? For moments of genuine passion or desperation to be scrutinised so harshly and calculatingly by the media? Kim's been in the limelight for a long time, she should be more mature and understanding than that. She should be supporting Lana, not trying to depict Lana as a bad feminist. Kim may have removed the harshest bite from her words, but she's still slut shaming Lana for the lifestyle she depicts in her art, most importantly the ride video, which makes no sense as men have lived this way for decades. Maybe it's not the right lifestyle for for some women but if others choose to live that way then why would she care? Lana Del Rey proves that women can be romantic without being airheads who desperately depend on a man. She gives a voice to important feminist issues that aren't being discussed by anyone else (domestic abuse, the media's discrimination against women) and that's exactly the point. There are more important issues in feminism than Lana Del Rey. It's insulting, it's inexcusable, and above all it's upsetting that today trashing women who make different lifestyle choices is considered feminism.

I don't know this Kim Gordon woman but if she is a highly acclaimed artist shouldn't it ever pass her mind that some things are escapism? And why does so many people assume that everything LDR do in her Ride video is what she does everyday ?

It's cute she's basing her opinion of Lana as a whole off what, the Ride music video and a couple bad quotes? I'm sure it'll be tough on Lana considering who it's coming from though, especially considering how close Kim and Kurt were. I'm wondering if this has anything at all to do with the fact that Kim hates Courtney Love too and Lana happens to be doing a tour with her.

What irritates me most about this is that people assume that these emotions are not real for Lana. Just because she's rich and beautiful, she can't be depressed or suffering from anxiety? I think she combines her own personal demons and past with an aesthetic she loves and this culminates into the narratives that her music embodies. It's easy to dismiss her as "just a persona," but a simple look at her music and work from ten years ago shows that this imagery and lyrical content remains consistent. There also seem to be several indications that she was quite a troubled teen. Most importantly, through her music, she gives a voice to oppressed women. I think Ultraviolence was more of a statement on the treatment of women by the industry and a reflection on the dark side of fame than a blanket comment on feminism. It was clearly written from personal experiences with a lot of sardonic tones. It's just very sad for me to witness a woman being perpetually torn down by critics and peers because of the way she chooses to express herself. Isn't that a direct contradiction of what feminism is all about?

Hmm, I really wanted to write something more thoughtful after coming home while tryiing to give this woman a chance. Sadly, as many others have stated she is taking it to Twitter for attention.
And it is a stunt to sell her book. She clearly knows that many feminists (the sex-negative ones and the older generation) are not too keen on Lana and that Lana has a big following of fans and haters.

This is actually not bad for Lana. She makes the experience that a petty woman whose hey-days are long gone now tries to make some cash with her name.
And how very petty she is when she calls the men "older ugly guys", where you would think that a feminst is more interest in things that are not so superficial like "beauty". Let's not even talk about the fact that it is not really a comment that stands for equality of the sexes either. Besides that; I really wanna see the good looking guys she has dated over the years. Really eager to know.

It's funny that she is coming for Lana and not women like Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears or Rihanna, but no, she choses to come for Lana instead.
This is something I have claimed all the way when the feminist attacks started on Lana and I have zero problems repeating it: they fear and disrespect a beautiful woman who is talented enough to make her own music and rises to stardom in a field that is more alternative than pop. This is their worst nightmare.

Well, it ended up being longer than I thought, but I don't have the nerve right now to post more.

more amusingly, expecting women who are in the public eye to be outwardly feminist is y'know.... unfeminist.

I was never really a huge fan but I thought Artpop was a great album. A lot of dance tracks that are more upbeat and fun, not taking herself so seriously. Everyone has different tastes though. Like I never understood the big deal over Marina and the Diamonds. lol
