What do people want to happen to an artist when something like this happens? Of course a public apology is made, which always seem somewhat disingenuous/insincere because it's... a public apology. But what then?

this absolute torrent of content the past week or so has me wondering... do we expect an answer from Lana as to why it all took so long since MAC being released?

Or am I expecting too much? Come Aug. 30th I probably won't give a damn but am just CURIOUS.

She talked about wanting to put out her poetry book before she drops the album back in september, and releasing a book takes a long time, and that's probs why it took her so long. She probs realized that if she's gonna wait for the book to be released first the album won't be out any time soon, so she's dropping it this month. She said she didn't have a set release schedual for this album and that she just wanted to put it out with minimal promo, so there was no reason for her to drop it during march/april. Billie was dropping her debut March 29th so her label would probs not want that, and Marina was having her moment in April so she would probs not want to drop her album then. Maybe it was around that time that she thought about dropping it during the summer, which resulted in the August 30th date since you can't just drop an album like that without planning it a few months in advance so the physical copies and all that are ready. That's just my theory.

To fuck a fleshlight reading "Norman" and get fucked by a dildo reading "Rockwell" at the same time would be rather,,,,  poetic ???

"exploiting" is definitely something that can be said about it, for the reasons both you and i mentioned. it's never satirical or metaphorical though, she actually identifies with and is drawn to all kinds of outsiders / people on the margins of society, and that (+ a fair amount of misogyny, too) was the reason why the whole debate around her authenticity happened back in 2012. she adopts those identities as personas, but of course she doesn't live her own life accordingly - because she doesn't have to; she's not trying to *really* be trailer park poor, or a prostitute, stripper, mafia princess, heroin addict or what-have-you, she's essentially glamorizing the white trashiness and danger of it all while safely taking what fascinates her & applying it to her music. i think that's the one valid reason to criticize lana & i'm absolutely open to that pov, but at the same time why NOT explore something that fascinates us safely via music/whatever art form? does art need to be - or even should be - morally responsible and "authentic"? and, you know, all the usual questions.

The (3) pre-album singles she's released so far are all truly great - they are among her career highlights. How To Disappear live is hauntingly beautiful, and so is pretty much every snippet she's shared so far. I don't know if Jack deserves any credit for this, but she has really perfected the formula and is playing to her strengths. So many of the tracks she's shared or teased so far are dripping with Lizzy Grant/Video Games vibes, it's just incredible. Lana singing about Jim and cracking beer over stripped down/minimalist production... it doesn't get better than that. it's what she does the best. Whenever she drops this album, it will become her best and most acclaimed work to date.

So it goes without saying that I'm befuddled by some of the posts that I'm seeing all over the internet, where certain group of ''fans'' are saying that she should scrap this boring, ''acoustic'' shit and re-work the album with Andrew Watt and shit like that. I honestly though that these people have moved on. I mean, it's been how many years since Born To Die? And here we are, in 2019, and they are still at it. They still don't get it. Lana doesn't need radio nor big Billboard entries just like Vampire Weekend doesn't need them.

I wish these people would just let it go already. If they want overly shallow, nonsensical, cartoonish, hookish pop sold as alternative, go listen to Halsey. Let Lana do her thing.
