lmao. k. women have every right to organize on their own w/out men. just like LGBT people have a right to organize without the presence of straight people. oppressed groups shouldn't have to cater to their oppressors. feminism is a political movement--it's not about your ~feelings~. stay basic & ignorant tho. this is the last i'll say on the subject cos i can't believe i thought members of lanaboards could have a nuanced discussion on the topic.
-
^@@ilovetati if you are a gay man then why do you feel it is your place to speak on the subject? we have enough straight women making their feminism all about fighting feminist "stereotypes" which...actually does nothing to help and instead alienates those women you disregard as being embarrassing stereotypes! but anyway. that's a topic for a whole other forum.

it's incredible what lengths some of you fans will go to defend lana when she's wrong. i am obsessed with her music & think she's phenomenal but i don't have to try to justify everything she does. some of you obviously have a very cavalier attitude towards rape/depictions of rape in media. it's sad but not surprising given the culture we live in. and: those "man hating bra burners" (go ahead, you can say lesbians) are the ones who fought for your rights so don't go throwing them under the bus.

i know lana is into violent kind of love. i always took that as her being into BDSM, which i have problems with, but at least it's "consensual." that's not even what they are portraying here. she doesn't look like she's enjoying it at all. (i know it's acting but why did they have her look like she is being raped?)

great thread idea--i have sooo many questions about this topic/her unreleased songs in general. it's hard for me to think that she wanted to give all of those songs away. lyrically, they seem so much a part of her personal narrative (made up or not). even though her unreleased stuff varies A LOT in genre, it's cohesive because of her lana-isms strewn throughout them. i think the label had a lot to do with the poppier songs, but i don't think she didn't enjoy them. she put her own spin on them & made them unique. i can't imagine other artists singing those songs. plus, lana has always said britney is one of her inspirations. who does bubblegum better than britney?
-
:icant: i didn't know this existed & i'm depressed this is all we have of it. i love when lana sings like this.
-
i've always gotten that vibe from her. personally, i'm anti-bdsm so i try to ignore it cos i still love her music & storytelling.
-
ESPECIALLY on boys for pele. it's part of the record itself. a lot of critics totally hated her breathing on it! i've never really noticed in lana's case, but i'm sure since you pointed it out it's all i'll be able to hear now.

Lana performing more UV songs on tour?
strange weather replied to Honeymooner's topic in Lana Thoughts
nah, sorry. most artists focus on their new album during their most current tour and only play the singles from their other albums. lana hasn't given UV its due quite yet and it's not fair. -
i have most of lana's unreleased songs but i somehow missed this one until about a month ago. i can't believe what i was missing. does anyone else feel very strongly about this song? there is something so fucking tragic & nostalgic about it that i get emotional every time i listen to it.

btd: off to the races, without you paradise: cola, gods & monsters uv: sad girl, FMWUTT, flipside

i somehow missed downloading "hollywood's dead" until recently and i seriously tear up at every listen. it's so tragic and nostalgic and beautiful! waaah.

Lana Del Rey to be covered in American Horror Story
strange weather replied to Dopeanddiamonds's topic in Latest News
if jessica lange sings sad girl before lana... -
this is exactly what i have been trying to get at in this thread. i prefer the music of UV to BTD (mostly cos the BTD demos were better), but at least during the BTD era we got more than canceled appearances and minimal promo. lana is so special because she is the whole package. i don't know why she is wasting this opportunity that she had sought for so long. i am a musician myself & it kind of pains me to see her waste this. i don't know what happened. she seemed to really, really believe in this album--knew it would turn things around for her. and then it got pretty good reviews, so what's stopping her? what's the problem?
-
tori has always done her shows like that, though. there's no excuse to play the same setlist night after night when you have PLENTY of other songs you could perform. it's lazy. & i think you are missing my point? i want lana do to more creative/visual/interactive stuff, a lot of which she used to do. she could change her setlist, make more videos, perform on tv shows/radio shows...or she could do something like a webchat w/fans. we don't even know if there will be an ultraviolence tour yet! i just expect more from her is all. ...a non-fan is exactly what it sounds like: someone who isn't a fan of lana del rey. she needs to focus on those of us who love her and stop worrying about haters.
-
it's not necessary, i suppose. i don't mean that i want her to do promo to get more famous or climb the charts. i don't give a fuck about that. i'm interested in lana and her creative projects that go w/the music. so i want her to do things like the BBC thing she canceled as well as other performances that i can watch in HQ. i want her to perform different songs, most of all. i want the setlists of her shows to be ultraviolence-heavy instead of the same old. if i were her, i'd take advantage of my vast back catalog and throw in a few unreleased songs now & again. i'm a tori amos fan and she pretty much plays a different setlist every night & even includes b-sides in her shows. why can't lana do that? i want music videos that are more than an afterthought. the visuals have always been an important component of her music but ultraviolence is so uninspired in this area. tropico was a huuuge project & even if you thought it sucked, it was at least ambitious. are we even getting anymore videos for UV? i know she did a ton of print interviews early on in the era but it would be nice to WATCH her being interviewed. her lack of promo just makes me think she doesn't care about the project, which is strange since she was always saying how UV made her forget about BTD. what happened to that?? she needs to get over herself and this victim complex she has with the media. i just wish she would focus on the fact that she has a great, intense following and release stuff for us and not care about non-fans. ugh.

ultraviolence is musically, vocally miles better than BTD. BTD is better lyrically and thematically. mostly because ultraviolence is a little redundant in those areas. sadly, this era is boring. so it's coloring my vision we don't have the cool, artistic videos of the eras before btd/early btd era. (yes, the ultraviolence vid was basically homemade but it disappointed.) we don't have the promo and HQ videos of btd. i just want her to seem to care about promoting ultraviolence.
