Haha wow, I saw a lot of Tom Waits on the previous page! Glad I'm not the only one who thought that. His was the first name to come to mind. I think their voices would sound so interesting together and their music styles would blend very well.

Thought I'd share this piece of art I made that was inspired by the song "Ultraviolence". I thought it was cool how I got this wedding/bridal vibe from the song and started making this piece reflecting that, and then her video did it too! This is my first Lana inspired artwork, but I hope to make more in the future!

I've found James Franco to be pretty obnoxious lately, but this was a surprisingly great read. He seems to be pretty spot-on about Lana. I feel like this explains a lot about her and it gives me a much better understanding of her. This part in particular is really beautiful:

Just listened to it for the first time. It's nice, but doesn't really stand out to me. It sounds like a song that was recorded for BTD, but was ultimately shelved. Like it didn't quite make the cut for the bonus tracks. I feel pretty indifferent to it right now and don't really see it as a song I would listen to often. Maybe it will grow on me? Who knows.

I don't know James Franco. I've never heard of him before he became friend with Lana. I don't know his personality, I don't know his attitude, so I can't tell about his condescending tone, but I think he's goddamn right about her. I also think most of her fans are clueless and a bunch of them are seriously pathetic. I mean, how dumb can one be to think that her writing is 100% autobiographical. Music journalists asking her to explain her poetry. I mean, seriously?! Way to go if you want to kill the magic. Just reading the amount of stupid comments on her Twitter/FB/Instagram accounts confirms that. When I read comments on posts made by some indy artists, like local ones who chose not to go mainstream, I find them way more spot on and relevant. There's more of a genuine exchange between the artist and his fans.

Going mainstream when you're so marginal must be very difficult. I personally don't see many things positive about it.

This is obnoxious in a way that only a piece written by James Franco could be (no shade, I love him), but I think it's really sweet. He seems to really get her.

Wow, I didn't know there was such a divide amongst fans about which album is better. I seriously adore BTD, Paradise, and Ultraviolence pretty much equally. I love the sound on each album. So a blend of all of those would be perfect for me. But I would still love it if it were more BTD or more Ultraviolence or whatever. I feel so easy to please!

(this will be a long post)

Ultraviolence may not have been full of hits but it was by no means an unlistenable album. She definitely surprised (and turned) a lot of detractors who dismissed her as a record-label android.

All of you guys whining about flop this, Ultraviolence shitty videos that, seem to have forgotten how rough Lana's start in this business was. She was accused of the worst things - being a fraud, being a liar, being untalented, and being a woman hater. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what was said about her. She somehow managed to come out of that and answer those people with a brilliant album (it may not be for everyone, I understand this) that showed her versatility as a musician and her moxie, not allowing the thirsty tendencies of record labels cloud her vision. Ultraviolence did not put a dent in her career. It earned her some clout and we ALL know it.

I get that Lana has younger fans - I'm the same age as Lana so who knows what you'd consider me. But you guys quickly seem to forget what Lana has stood for since the beginning. And it was never high budget, #1 singles, coture dresses, or god forbid, doing things just so people could buy it. This is the same girl who made videos on iMovie for christ sakes. She's not Gaga or Taylor Swift, she's a creator. The girl makes her money where she needs to. The rest of the time she's making art the only way she knows how to do it, and that's why I love her. When she's given a budget - she's a fucking legend. But you're gonna have to get used to her not always being that. She's more rock n roll than she is pop - regardless of what the purists say.

So that's why the Mariah Carey dude's comments rub me the wrong way. it's like - why do you even like this woman? Worshipping Mariah Carey makes all the sense in the world given the things you say - but LANA?

Wow, apparently she's been busy! I can't believe she's already getting ready for another album! I'm a little sad that she didn't do much with Ultraviolence. I feel like we hardly even got to hear her play the songs live. I hope she doesn't ignore them during upcoming tours. It was too good of an album to just forget about.

But I am super excited for new music from her!

Flipside really is fantastic. It's why I bought the Target edition of Ultraviolence. Is it not a generally well-liked song amongst fans?

Sorry for bringing a topic back from the dead, but I couldn't really find anywhere else to post this. I did a search, but didn't see anyone around here mention that they have a clip of the video in rotation in the music section at Target. For the longest time, I kept thinking I heard the song in the distance but thought I might just be imagining things. I even tried hanging out in that area for a while to confirm, but eventually gave up. But just the other week, I finally caught it playing! I thought it was pretty cool that they still have it in rotation. Good promo for Lana!

I wasn't crazy about this video at first, but it's totally grown on me over time. The effects used are really interesting and unique. Perfect casting with Mark. I've realized that the video suits the song really well. I can honestly say I love it now.

its usually deemed "boring" or "unimportant" or its branded as a "filler track." from what I've seen, most people pretty much forget it exists.
I just think the nirvana-ish guitar is so raw and gorgeous as well as her soulful vocals and simple yet poetic lyrics. Flipside is a favorite for sure.
