Breaking Up Slowly w/ Nikki Lane
longtimeman replied to Elle's topic in Chemtrails Over the Country Club
It took me a long time to accept country music into my heart as well, so I can understand where you're coming from. Having said that, Lana has been circling around Country since at least 2005, so it's not as though it's a new development. -

Do you mean this song? Australia's own wonderful Julia Jacklin. -
What are your favourite literary quotes of all time?
longtimeman replied to Mer's topic in Literature
- Allen Ginsberg, 'Kaddish', 1959 (I know it's long, but the whole poem is long and I had to cut it off somewhere). -
So firstly, by packaging, do you mean it's sealed shut? My answer is assuming that's what you're talking about. There's no guarantees in life, but The Cure are a very collectable band, and their rare records tend to grow in value. It's up to you - how much enjoyment will you have knowing you have a closed copy that you can't look at, versus having one you can open up and look through? These days there's probably going to be an unboxing video for it on Youtube anyway, so you can sort of have the experience of opening it without opening it, if you know what I mean. One bit of advice, sometimes sealed records are sealed slightly too tight, and over a few years the packaging and record itself can start to Warp. If it looks like that might happen (hold it on its side and see if it looks like it's curved), then I'd open it straight away. Most modern vinyl is sealed pretty well and safely, though, but I once had a picture disc from the early 80s that was sealed, and after a decade like that, you could just about have eaten soup out of it. Well done on getting a nice edition of a great classic record, though!

Does it look like this? https://www.discogs.com/Lana-Del-Rey-Lana-Del-Rey-AKA-Lizzy-Grant/release/8545867 Because that's a fake/fan made one. -
There don't seem to be a huge number of heavy metal bands at the moment that have powerful, but non operatic women as singers, but I recently found this song from the French band Nightmare, who have a great new singer and an album coming out in a few months.

This sucks Regardless of what we think we might be doing to help, I'm really not sure Lana is who she would want to hear from right now (even if L. did want to reach out). A better idea might be mental health services in Azealia's area, but I'm on the other side of the world and have no idea how things work there.

it's standard operating procedure for people who want to feel superior without doing anything to actually help anyone. Find someone who is trying to do something good, and pick a fault with it. IOW, the entirety of Stan twitter.

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

You've apparently already decided, but if you want advice from someone who's not that good at guitar (but is friends with a few professional musicians), my advice would be to remember that electric and acoustic are actually different instruments, and have different techniques that you use, and different sounds that you're after, so if you are looking to start, think about which sound you prefer, and go for that one. Also, the most important advice of all, don't go for a cheap instrument, because it will be hard to play properly, and will put you off playing. If at all possible, get someone who knows how to play to go along with you when you buy your instrument, to try it out. -
Do you have any details/articles about this?

It's from the Nylon Cover party, from November 2013. I can't remember if this particular photo was taken by Barrie or by a blogger, but there's details here: http://www.justjared.com/2013/11/02/lana-del-rey-nylon-cover-party-with-barrie-james-oneill/ https://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/82993351.html -
I really hope not, but this question made me realise something. This is the first album title that actually could have a literal cover - all of her other records have had titles that were more conceptial/vague. This title puts a straight forward image in your head, and it's not a particularly great or artistic one. Edit: or what the few post above me just said, beating me to it

Unless the side is more than about 25 minutes (at 33 rpm), a mastering engineer who knows what they're doing should get perfect sound from it. What causes bad sound these days is using cheap shitty vinyl, and bad quality control procedures, such as pressing them too quickly, so they don't have time to cool down, which can make them warp or get out of shape.

Correct. Aside from the fact that this sort of thing isn't a real document, the 'Privacy Officer' is the person in charge of complaints/issues with data that is collected by the Universal website, eg https://www.umusic.com.au/privacy-policy/ - in other words, they're not circulating documents about upcoming single releases.

She was 'cancelled', but she didn't die, and she will never be forgiven for that.

I'm really sorry I'm watching this from a long way away, and it's just a mess.

If you look at the amount of shit that Madonna's getting for posting about it, it's pretty clear Lana's best off not getting involved at all.

Can someone please screencap and post these messages?
