OK, listening to the album for the first time, now that it's streaming legally. I'm not sure I'm going to survive listening to this every day ten or twelve times for the next few months, but i don't think I have a choice. Also, did we always know that Nectar of the Gods (or whatever it used to be called) is a heroin song? I somehow missed that.

I'm crying. Real crying. This is so good, and fits the song so perfectly. I normally hate literal music clips, but this mixes it up enough to keep it interesting, and the way it's once again completely focused on women hanging out together and supporting each other is great.

They're not fans. They're something else - self promoters and parasites. She doesn't owe them anything.

Songs & Musicians That Sound Similar to Lana

For some reason, a lot of videos in this thread aren't showing up properly. Can you please list the artist and song title as well as the video link so I can chase them up? Thanks -
Pitchfork Reviews Rescored (including Born To Die)

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that. That record deserves an 11. -
Born to Die - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
longtimeman replied to Beautiful Loser's topic in Post-Release Threads
Oh, I didn't see this discussion posted here, and posted a new thread about the Pitchfork thing, which may or may not be approved. On the plus side, Pitchfork are a constant inspiration to people, in that they prove you don't have to have been born with ears to be a music reviewer. -
Those hacks at Pitchfork magazine have put up an article that isn't titled '19 Records we were too stupid to go against the trendy negativity of the time to give what they deserved', but should have been. Read all the self-justifications here, or if you don't want to give them extra clicks, here's the 'rescore' of Born To Die:

We'll never know for sure, but I would bet a large amount of money this is what happened, rather than any of the possible explanations that are at all interesting.

I'm just assuming, like all spam, it will download a virus, or the new U2 record, or something.
-
I almost feel bad reporting this as spam when it's so hilariously misplaced Don't click the link on that post, by the way!!!

I swear I'm not saying this sarcastically, but despite the fact I'm sitting next to a bookshelf with at least half a dozen books documenting these two women, I have absolutely no idea what this analogy is getting at

Your Favourite Song from Each Album's Track-listing Placement
longtimeman replied to delreyfreak's topic in Lana Thoughts
This was incredibly difficult, but also quite fun. A lot of my all time faves got edged out by slightly more favoured songs. 1 Cruel World 2 Off To The Races 3 Venice Bitch 4 Video Games 5 West Coast 6 National Anthem 7 Art Deco 8 Yosemite 9 California 10 Salvatore 11 The Blackest Day 12 This Is What Makes Us Girls 13 Happiness Is A Butterfly 14 Heroin 15 Is This Happiness 16 Get Free (Note: I've always had the alternate West Coast as 17th on my Ultraviolence playlist, even though on the German version I have of the album, it's #12, so if it's allowed as #17, then I'll include that there). -
LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships

Joe Schilling. Elle did the research here that convinces me it's correct. -
That blind item ... my response to that is a big "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-U-U-K YOU". It's proof that these days, thanks to the internet, any dumbass with a smart phone thinks they're Dorothy Parker, even though they're all wit and no humour. Saying about anyone "A little tripo to rehab would work wonders" shows so little understanding of the world that I hope they wake up to themselves soon. Also, a quick reminder, 'Lizzy Grant' is a persona as well (as is 'Fiona Apple' and 'Courtney Love' and 'Joni Mitchell', and any other artist you can name).
-
I don't know ... to me, it's logical that if she's been posting more than she wanted to, and she wants to find a way to stop herself from oversharing ... From a 'sober' point of view, it makes perfect sense.
-
There's no way in the world she'll be without a record contract of some sort, for any length of time. She has one of the most reliable and loyal fanbases in the world, who may not stream her songs in the billions, but will buy physical product in multiple formats (as well as sell out any tours/merch/etc). She can pick and choose who she wants to work with, or even go indie and just take all the money herself.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but in case this is all feeling familiar ... Lana Del Rey deletes all her Instagram photos and most of her tweets (NME, 5 September 2017)
-
I was browsing Twitter, and the top comment on her Capitol Records post is someone, who has 'Lana' as part of their handle, saying "Make better music". With "fans" like that, why wouldn't she deactivate?
-
She specifically says that she's not retiring from recording and writing. And this will at least stop people from complaining that she's not posting enough.
-
This seems to be a really good idea, tbh. And it explains her tweeting 'The Greatest' (If this is it I'm signing off ...) (Also, this is Lana - there's no way this is forever).

Dean and Melodye are two different people (there's a comma between their names).

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
longtimeman replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
I can only ever remember this quote being attributed to Lana, not actually being said by her, if you know what I mean. There is a tweet from Kylie Jenner from November 2012 which attributes Lana, and is about the earliest I could find, so that should give a clue of roughly when you might be able to find it coming from. Keep in mind, though, that almost all pithy quotes that are attributed in a vague way to someone famous, are misattributed.
