  1. Like Thunder, it's from the Last Shadow Puppets project.
  2. Is this really your definition of what disqualifies a record from being considered to flow well? You're going to lose your mind if you ever listen to any Pink Floyd or Beatles records
  3. Thanks for posting. He has a lot of less common insights, and having an academic background, he's less prone to just talk about things being good because he likes them and bad because he doesn't, but he still falls into a few typical traps with Lana (on this and his other videos about her). Also, I love the irony of someone who has the Velvet Underground debut album on the wall behind him warning about how Lana is stepping into dangerous territory by mentioning heroin
  4. Click on the little pic of the magnifying glass next to the 'search' towards the top of the page. That will bring up advanced search and you can search by username.
  5. There was a compilation album on Youtube called 'Young and Beautiful', which from memory was a mixture of released and unreleased songs. I listened to that every day for a week or two, and then discovered that you could actually download them in better quality. There was also a fake record on Youtube called 'Die For Me' that I think was even sold on ebay for a bit.
  6. The Grammies have been dead to me since 1989, when they finally introduced a heavy rock/metal category (about 20 years too late), only to give it to Jethro Tull (who are heavy rock/metal in the same way Adele is hip hop). Nothing that's happened since has changed my mind.
  7. Nice catch! And I don't think you can say there's anything 'alleged' about them dating.

Listening for the thousandth time to the covers EP 'Covered Up With Flowers', and it's stunning to be reminded that Miley's cover of 'Nothing Else Matters' is more a cover of this than it is of the Metallica original.
  9. There's a lot to talk about with this song, but I just want to get down that the Greek mythological term for Nectar of the Gods is 'Ambrosia', which would have made an interesting title on an album which also featured 'Arcadia' (another Greek mythological name, this time for a place associated with calm and simple pleasures).
  10. This is excellent, but if Coldplay are alternative, I'm the lead singer for the Abba reunion tour.
  11. Pretty sure it's referring to 'walking away'/leaving her, ie, if you're going to leave anyway, just get it out of the way so we can move on.
  12. Fake, and awful. And worst of all, all the reactors to the song seem to use this video.
  13. I"m assuming based on the user name, they're trying to 'whoosh' us, or do some performance art, a la
  14. If I had to claim one song today, it would be Thunder. Yesterday we had a huge storm that knocked out power to half the city (luckily ours was only out for about eight hours), and singing that song was the only thing that got me through the anxiety.
  15. It's pretty well established slang usage, and when it's used by an artist who is clearly educated (like the Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd), it's used to characterise the narrator in a specific way, or ironically (Another Brick in the Wall, which is railing against education, is a text book example). When it's used more organically, like in hip hop or punk, it's trying to present an image of the writer/singer as a rule breaker and also perhaps as a class signifier. Lana's probably using it as a combination of these. She's also playing with cliches, with the line about 'not one shirt off your back'. Normally, that phrase is used as a compliment about someone's generosity, in the form of 'he'd give you the shirt off his back', but she's using it as an insult of his stinginess ("he wouldn't even give me one of the shirts off his back, even though he has so many"), as well as of his lack of dedication to their relationship ("he wouldn't reveal himself emotionally and physically to me, but still expected me to give him everything of mine.") It's not an accident.
  16. So last night I had enough of feeling sad/good, and wanted to feel sad/angry for a minute, so I watched Fantano's review. All in all, it's his usual shtick, but two things stood out to me. First, he makes a reference to her 'doing a Yoko' on Dealer, and then quickly follows up by saying that he actually likes Yoko. This is such classic hipster doofus review strategy that even when he catches himself out turning to the oldest cliche in the book (crapping on Yoko will always get a cheap laugh), he doesn't have the self awareness to look into what might be behind her singing. Hence, he continues to be a guy who can't deal with an artist releasing a record that doesn't fit into the phony category he's decided they belong in. Secondly, he says that her voice just isn't for him. This is something I wish he'd just said up front, and been done with it. I find it bewildering that anybody who doesn't like Lana's voice would have enjoyed any of her records (as he did with at least parts of LFL/NFR/CotCC), but I also can't see why he can't either count himself out from reviewing her albums, or try to imagine what somebody who enjoys her voice might think of it. I hate the modern idea that everything needs to be for everybody, and if it isn't then you can voice your dumb opinion about why it's not for you as though it matters. Overall, I really envy my best friend and fellow Lana stan, who is never on social media/message boards/review sites, and gets to enjoy the records on his own terms, just like we did when we were fifteen and we literally did not hear what anyone thought of our favourite records unless we hunted down an obscure print magazine from Europe or something. People should be allowed to not like something, and have the grace to not bother talking about it. There's never been an easier time in recent history to ignore any music/TV/films/whatever that you don't care about.
  17. Does anybody have a list of the dates that she first posted snippets of lyrics, etc on Instagram, when that was still a thing? I remember meaning take notes at the time, but never did, until it was too late.
  18. It's 11:00am and I'm on my fourth listen for the day, and boy am I in a mood ...
  19. The other weird one I remember was Meet Me In The Pale Moonlight, which for no particular reason got picked up by the general media, including Time Magazine.
  20. I love how this is the featured negative (0/10) review on metacritic. Does this seem like someone doesn't know how the site works?
  21. This is such an astute comment. I get some critics being overwhelmed by the number of places/people/names referenced, but none of them that I've seen have even bothered to look into the surface level of a lot of the songs - they've just picked out some phrases and dealt with those. Have you even seen anybody pick up what Cherry Blossom is talking about, even aside from the deeper context of Lana's life? Or thought about what it means to say that only one item of clothing fits her, beyond joking about how they also put on weight over the pandemic? I don't expect them to care about what she's trying to say, but it would be nice if they at least tried to figure out the basic meanings of the songs.
