Regina just tweeted this picture which sums up her appeal, I think.

I couldn't love this song more, a great tune and one of Lana's best Sober Anthems. Does anyone have any thoughts on the line "He's bleeding from his brain and his wallet"? Does it just mean that he's acting like an idiot and throwing money around, or does it have some other meaning? Whatever, I hope this makes it onto the tenth anniversary super deluxe edition of Born To Die.

I think it's a fair comment to make that any time Lana gives a specific detail, like a number of songs on her hard drive or a number of years of a relationship, we shouldn't take it as gospel, or even as an approximation. She repeatedly uses specific numbers in a metaphorical sense.

I sort of fell off Bjork fandom after Homogenic came out, for personal reasons (not because of her music), despite her being in my favourite movie that I never want to see again or even think about again if I can help it (DITD). Can someone PM me some of the best of her 21st century music so I can get up to speed with what she's doing?

This would change my life, because I would be compelled to travel the country to see as many shows as possible, and to be that creepy guy at every show staring at her.

To avoid just naming every song, I was thinking yesterday (as I was driving the freeway blasting the song) that Off To The Races is a great song full of great musical moments. I can't break them all down here, but at pretty much any part of the song I can point out "that bit!". Such a great song.

Yeah, I love this, but I'm not seeing these lyrics as being some massive jump in quality from Off To The Races or Do Live or Die or Sad Girl or dozens of other songs. (Edit: WTF is 'Do or Die'?)

Remember how frustrated and bemused you used to be when every article about her got her date of birth wrong? That's the same feeling a lot of us have when article after article, year after year, presents her career as this 90 degree sharp turn from airheaded blonde pop starlet Lizzy Grant to dark enchanting creation of back room managers Lana Del Rey, without even bothering to look at what she was doing when she had a different hair colour. It's not even like they need to go out and buy a record - they just have to sit at home and spend a bit of time on Youtube. Just because decent journalism is rare doesn't mean we should give terrible writing a pass.

Very true. Any writer that can write something as bland and outright wrong as "That nastiness pervaded her new identity as well. Lizzy Grant was all about blond sweetness, but Lana Del Rey flaunted her obsessions with fatalism, death, seediness, and danger" can be ignored completely. It's not only that they've obviously never listened to a Lizzy Grant era song, it's that this is just the old authenticity/persona debate that we should be well and truly past be now.

For what it's worth, I don't know any straight men who like this style. It's an easy fix for when you have someone who doesn't look good naturally, but when you have someone who always looks great like Lana, it's completely unnecessary. (FTR, I don't mind the photo itself - it's that robotic evening out of skin tone that I can't deal with).

We know there are a tonne of demos that were recorded over the years, but have any of Lana's song's ever appeared on another artist's record (not counting covers of songs that Lana released)?

I'm not a fan of the cover - it has that awful men's magazine retouching vibe which is like the visual equivalent of badly used autotune. The other photos are great, though. In any case, my definition of myself as a feminist depends totally on what particular feminists think of me. If they think that I'm a feminist, then I'm happy to be a member. If they think I'm not, then I'm happy to be out of their club.
