Let Me Tankery was a lead single with a music video and multiple performances. Blue Velvet was a single with a music video with a massive H&M campaign attached to it. Body Electric was also a single with an extravagant short film (which had a theatrical premiere, mind you) attached to it. They’re not “album-deepcuts” lol. And Tomorrow Never Came is indeed an album track, but it is a feature and with the Beatle’s son. Also these came out years ago and had time to accumulate streams.

Speaking of standalone singles and features. I don’t see Life Lesson, Suburban Tank, etc. doing this.

Say Yes To Heaven got sent to radios that’s how the release got leaked lol. The confirmation that it was going to be released came from AllAccess.com. Tough hasn’t been sent to radio yet in the U.S. These are early support from stations. Say Yes To Heaven had adds dates on the radio. And you might be speaking little too early on longevity . Like you said, Tough has radio support. Tough is going to be sent to pop radio. That might give it way more longevity in the end. The streaming numbers could change.

If you want to do that, you need to remember that Say Yes was viral on TikTok for months. It was exposed to a lot of people before release. It also has two versions at release. The sped up version counts towards the charts and they also put it on autoplay as well (for about a week) on Spotify around the 2nd or 3rd week. I don’t remember exactly. They also released multiple remixes in the later weeks as well as a physical vinyl. That’s what kept it afloat esp in the UK charts. They wouldn’t have to do all that if the right version was released, but I rest my case.

Tough is basically a brand new song. Tough has one version and no autoplay. At least not yet. I’m betting the label is waiting for airplay to build before cranking up the autoplay.

Say Yes does have great longevity in general as it’s still doing a million streams now, but I can’t say Say Yes has more longevity just yet. Tough is radio friendly (it has big potential to be a radio hit), and it will pushed to pop radio. That will make it rise on streaming as well. Tough streaming/chart run will look a lot different from Say Yes.

Most songs don’t have instant ads unless there’s obvious payola and deals involved. Sending it early is very risky for labels esp if the song turned out to be a flop (Houdini, Woman’s World, etc.). Those songs had radio deals and day and date ads and flopped. Those songs were exposed to millions of people (due to the very high airplay during release week) and still tanked. The GP said no. They wasted money. Tough has yet to have that exposure. The labels clearly waited to get feedback whether or not they should send it. I think they got their answer as it will be pushed to radio soon. I don’t mean streaming performance here. Tough has done very well. If it were based on that alone, they would’ve sent it immediately the week it came out. I meant radio programmers and radio listeners feedback.

Also, what do you mean by “hype”? there’s no hype related for radio (sort of). As it doesn’t work that way. A song needs to be for radio or it is not. It can be a streaming hit and radio still wouldn’t play it if it’s not radio friendly. The reverse can happen too. A song can bomb on streaming and be carried by radio. It’s a different audience. The best case scenario is that it rises together with radio plays.

Summertime Sadness was sent over a year after it came out. It was not #1 on iTunes or the most streamed songs anywhere when it initially came out. Mind you, L4na’s album had already been released. Video Games and Born To Die were the hits (WW btw, crickets on Billboard) not Summertime Sadness.

Radio is literally just a marketing tool to get music heard in hopes of getting sales back. That is literally what it is. About Damn Time charted on Spotify for one day and fell off . It didn’t return until over a month later after getting airplay. And it rose to #1 lol. Summertime Sadness didn’t start to rise until it was getting airplay. It rose from not charting to #6. Doin’ Time also didn’t chart until weeks later after it was #1 on Alt radios. The song came out and missed the Hot 100. Tough is already charting 4 weeks in with no airplay.

This is being sent to Pop radio soon. Her first in a long long time. Most of her releases were not sent to radio at all. And the ones they do sent are only to Alternative and Triple A radios, which barely have any audience.

Some stations have already started playing it before the adds date (impact date). That’s a good sign and probably why they’re sending it to Pop radio “soon”. KIIS-FM (the biggest Pop station/radio station in general in L.A.) has just started playing it this week. In fact, they played it twice yesterday: http://www.mediabase.com/whatsong/whatsong.asp?var_s=075073073083045070077&MONDTE=8%2F4%2F2024

Idk why you make it seems like it’s a bad thing . It spent a whole month in the top 100 that’s more than 98% of L4na’s songs. The 3 Ocean Blvd songs that charted: Candy Necklace spent 1 day in the top 100 . Ocean Blvd (title track) spent a total of… 3 days in the top 100. A&W spent… 6 days. Let The Light In never even reached the top 200. All her recent releases in the streaming era that charted spent 1 to 6 days inside the top 100 lol (including all the NFR songs). We don’t even need to talk about the pandemic albums because that didn’t even chart anywhere . Her pre-streaming releases like Young And Beautiful spent only 31 days in the top 200. It didn’t even peak inside the top 100 on Spotify. It peaked at #155. That’s one of her most streamed songs.

I wasn’t even exaggerating when I said 98 percent because the only other songs that did this well on Spotify were Summertime Sadness and Say Yes To Heaven. 2 songs. That’s right 2 in her entire discography. Make it 3 songs now with Tough. These are the only songs that have managed to linger this long on the Spotify Top 200.

I’m just hoping the success of “Tough” carry through to the next era. Her lead doing worse than Tough would be embarrassing. That’s not out of the realm of possibility either. And I know some people here want songs like Henry but that sounds like another 1 day then -OUT type of song.
