I’m explaining the difference between systemic racism and prejudicial racism. You can ignore my post as much as you like, it doesn’t change the fact of the matter.

It’s not about belief if you think you can or cannot be racist towards white people, but you can continue to be wrong and that’s okay. Ive given you an explanation about racism. For all you know, I could be black, hispanic, Asian, and still be making the same point.

    Anyways, have a good day.

I don’t want to get too much into this argument, but systemic racism doesn’t happen to white people, but white people can and do experience racist remarks and beliefs like any other person of any race. Racism is not exclusive to any one certain people. Prejudice is defined to include racism, sexism, ageism, etc with a negative idea of other people based without facts. You don’t have to believe it, but it’s not about belief, it’s about the definition of what makes racist people, racist. Racism is defined as the belief that one race is superior than another. And in saying white people cannot experience racism, is almost racist in a way. Think about Hitler— he hated Jews, who were a mix between Mediterranean and white. Some were basic white, others darker. But he hated them all the same, based off of a stereotype based off of nothing. That is prejudicial racism. Which is racism, nonetheless.
Anyone of any race can experience anything. Its how you perceive it that matters. Some become racist by experiencing racism. “He called me a ____ but i’m better than them because everyone i know within my race doesn’t act like that. I hate them.” It’s a selfish ideology that one is better or superior based off of race, no matter the race. Hatred grows and racism follows.

It’s just like saying men cannot experience sexism. SYSTEMATIC sexism, yes, you’d be correct. But that does not mean that men in society do not experience sexism. There’s plenty of evidence that supports the fact that men can and do experience sexism, as women can. Women face more sexist struggles than men do within the system. BUT, women can be just as bad as men when it comes to a superiority complex than insights anger, hate, manipulation, etc.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

she's obviously traumatized from the media in 2011-2014 and quarantine has just made her reflect back on everything, similar to how a lot of people are just re evaluating things during this time. I just still can't get over how she worded things and the messages that could be perceived from the post

I wish people would see it more as the most successful women in “pop” music right now are women of color, which is why Lana named these women of color. If it was mostly white women, she wouldve named those white women. Celebrate the fact that the industry is being dominated by women of color!! Minus Ariana lmaoo

You’re not wrong, although the week after NFR dropped, she said she wants the next record out within 12-13 months, so maybe she planned this album better than the last.

At the same time, it seems as though she might’ve been happy but she was also planning this post. About a month or two after NFR! dropped, she posted a pic of an article praising NFR! and she said she kind of feels bad for Norman (album)’s little sister she’s cooking up , most likely bc she knows it will get the lack of respect it deserves and will be dismissed and prolly hated compared to NFR

I feel like the reason this is getting a lot of backlash is because a lot of stan twitter etc today are too young and were not around in 2012/12 maybe even 2014 when Lana was getting absolutely fucking hounded by the media. It was really quite unusual and unprecedented. I don't think Ive ever seen such a vicious response to an artist since it happened to Lana. You might say that these other artists have faced criticism as well but it was nowhere near the amount Lana faced by literal mainstream publications back in the day. There was a site called Hipster Runoff which was really quite popular in the music world which literally changed its name to Lana Del Report and spent most of its time making fun of her appearance, her persona, her music, trying to completely destroy the poor girl. And let's not forget the reviews of Born to Die from pitchfork etc. I think Lana probably has trauma from 2011/12 which she has been dealing with for a few years and that's what we're seeing in that instagram post. And btw idk how you can even attempt to make it about race, Lana mentioned those artists because they are the most popular female artists at the moment, not because they are POC. I swear to god the lack of intelligence I see baffles me.

I lowkey think she's having a midlife crisis too. She's 35 exactly one month today and that's quite a milestone birthday and her last outburst diary entry was about her feelings of inadequacy that she is not a mother yet and obviously the relationship that she has been most public about and seemed to be most promising for her has seemingly deteriorated. Posting a photo half-hiding that you're reading an Alcoholics Anonymous book is also sending a clear signal.

Maybe all her career she's been thinking she'll feel fulfilled once she wins the approval of certain people or publications and being recognised by the Recording Academy. I think coming off the back of her most well-received album after all that hype died down she is not feeling the way she expected to feel. It's odd because she seemed to be genuinely happy during the NFR! album cycle. It was really fulfilling as a fan to see her posts where she was expressing thanks, the IGTV video she did where she was super excited about the reception of the album, the fact she invited so many musicians with smaller audiences to collaborate with her on tour, her pairing with Weyes Blood and Zella Day to sing a song she loved. Everything seemed to be aligning for her.

Now I think the most current state we all associate her with is almost bitterness and anger. I don't think its particularly wise to be posting them or articulating them that way - but she's kept her mouth shut for the most of her career and by continuing to do so that would just prove her point of how feminism has not worked for her because she hasn't been able to express her feelings as they wouldn't be deemed pseudo-progressive or unifying.

I do agree she is not without fault. It is very unfortunate for her that the few times she has directly called people out, they have been black artists. Azealia Banks. Kanye West. Her latest post (Beyonce hasn't even had a no.1 since she duetted with fucking Ed Sheeran on that lame ass song). And her latest flame being a literal TV cop...

Anyway, we know Lana can be very fickle as we have had this audiobook/album dangling over us for 4 months and the poetry book for like 14 months, so I don't think this is going to end well for her or that she will react at all positively to the can of worms she has just opened.

Because she simply does not give a fuck. And i think that’s been blatant from the start, she doesn’t care about what everyone says AND THE FEEDBACK FROM THIS LETTER PROVES HER POINT.

Anyone else can say anything that seems “irresponsible” or off putting, yet when she does it she’s trashed and crucified. I think she’s saying she’s done listening to critics and everyone else and she’s going the route she wants, fuck everything and everyone. I think it was apparent in her face when she didn’t win the grammy for best album. She was stunned, shocked, and felt snubbed. SHE DID EVERYTHING THEY WANTED, even after naming her record “Norman FUCKING Rockwell”, but even with an album title like this, she still ended up with the best reviewed record last year

yall she said what she fucking said... criticize her for not being elegant and careful with what she wrote but everything she said is absolutely valid!

Y'all can police her words but this is the raw unfiltered lana yall been begging for, she said alot of ppl will be scared and she'll NAME them too hssdjdj but seriously all these alt/pop girls came from her fucking artistic womb..like the cultural impact and reset this woman caused with the amount of hate and gate keeping she got from those first 2 records from music critics and feminists and even other artists like Lorde
with all these other women in music who haved benefitted and used lana as a source of inspiration (camilla, hasley, billie, Kali etc) who can express their sexuality and femininity or angst while getting accolades and praise from the media while she was shunned for it..shit im fucking mad for her too y'all srry im heated

I know we're talking about certain topics here, but I literally. In what world is it that a girl literally dyes her hair into green/diff colors of the rainbow inwardly, not judged for being a persona while Lana was literally more or less singing about getting famous to then being judged as inauthentic. that's honestly so wild to me

Reading the first line again, it really is hilarious that Doja Cat (a protege of Dr. Luke), Ariana (a white woman that purposely purports herself as mixed), Camila (a reality tv contestant and bona fide racist), Cardi B (a stripper turned reality tv personality turned rapper), Kehalni (boring) have not had to face the same rocky trajectory as an actual musician who has never done anything other than be authentic to herself and followed her own artistic inclinations so strongly.

I would be fucking pissed off if I were her too. She had a SUBSTANTIAL hand at paving the fucking way for this new generation of cool sad club kids and took all of the blows for them so that they could debut to pretty much widespread acclaim and acceptance without ever thinking twice, even though there are many which are LITERALLY industry plants e.g. billie eilish with her parents connections, dropping out of school so young and the fact she was marketed with her style at such a young age etc, Who has cited Lana as an influence many times (or more importantly her brother who probably has a larger stake in creating billie's overall sound and image) but her authenticity was never questioned whereas Lana was hounded for being inauthentic even though she did more back breaking work by working the live music scene for years without furthering her career in any real way - something newer generation artists won't ever have to do - they just need to keep up their social content calendars and make tiktoks while they chase another trend and drop a single every 3 weeks.

I think this outburst of anger is much delayed and I think Bilie winning album of the year was the straw that broke the camels back and I think she has had a lot of time to ruminate on it. I guess she only feels comfortable sharing this now as she is no longer on the receiving end of these claims and at a point where she is now regarded quite highly and not fighting an unfair fight.

I know exactly what u mean. She's being a lot more outspoken which is great, but I guess since its all still unfolding, we don't really know. I've to agree something's different yeah. I kinda wanna know where it's all stemming from, but at the same time, it's too early to really say

Yeah! I will not go into the subject "feminism", because I don't think it's my "place of speech", since I'm a "straight white man" (as they say), although I'm a pro-feminism man.
Sometimes, Lana expresses herself in a confused way, but the message of the post seems clear to me. I understand her revolt and what she is claiming.
But what most catches my attention is this new woman who "seems" to be emerging... A woman who, since that post on Mother's Day, decided to spit out things that seemed to be stuck in her throat for a long time.
I have no idea what she has been doing in those quarantine times in terms of "self-knowledge", but I feel that something has changed. And I'm curious to know what her steps will be from now on and how this will reflect in her art.
I can say that I'm attracted again to this new Lana Del Rey, who speaks openly about her feelings.

I really should be going back into hiding now, but I wanted to note on this real quick bc I've been wanting to make a big post about this for awhile, but didn't know if it would be too personal/intrusive to do so.
I think Lana started attending AA again in 2018/2019 and I think that's where she actually met her new group of girl friends.
I first started thinking this because many of her new girl friends in her little squad have made posts on their instagrams regarding their "sober birthdays" and congratulating their friends for their sober milestones as well. I have a few screenshots of these instances, but again, held off on posting anything because I wasn't sure if it was something that should be talked about on here.
Anyway, I think she met these girls from her meetings, and that Candace is probably her sponsor. (The older woman who Lana has posted having phone conversations with.)
Furthermore, in her leaked Pitchfork 2017 interview, the interviewer made a reference to Alcoholics Anonymous in which Lana said she had "no comment." Lana also said she had "no comment" when the interviewer asked if she still drank.
Also, a friend had told me that one of her friend's uber drivers mentioned meeting Lana in an AA. There's also a few tweets on twitter that talk about meeting Lana at AA. Of course that's all just hearsay.. and all of this is just my pure personal speculation, but it sort of adds up, especially with this book post.
I know people have some negative opinions of her new lil girl gang, but I think they've been a positive influence on her, especially if she met them where I'm thinking she did. Good for Lana for continuing to always better herself and surrounding herself with people who have her best interest at heart. Always proud of her.
    Anyway, ttfn x
