@@FormerLanaFan What? Really??? How did you manage to listen to an artist's back catalog of songs, 75% of which are about illicit affairs with men, and be okay with that all this time? You're upset because the female artist of said songs actually admitted publicly that she DID sleep with lots of people? Logic, where art thou? Personally I've always kind of admired women who are so open with their sexuality. There's nothing slutty about it unless you are dishonest and hurting people left and right. If you're horny and wanna get laid, if you're lonely, it's cool that a woman can go and take care of that. Just tell the guy that's what's up. I wish my parents' religion and society hadn't shamed me. I wish I loved my body enough to get it naked with just anyone. There should be more outlets for women to appear the same way men have been sexually portrayed in the media. Women are not little delicate flowers who want only romance and marriage. Sometimes we just wanna get F-ed! -

@@bloodredjam- I don't understand why you are so upset. There is no reason to be this upset unless Lana were your GF or something -

@@LiamViljoen I think you misunderstand though that, for a lot of people, making a statement that a celebrity might be gay is just as "bad" as saying they might have a personality disorder. I mentioned that Lana's behavior in general reminds me of one of my friends and that is why I suspect what I do. It doesn't have to do with this interview, the RS one, or any other isolated comments she has made. TBH I defend her storming out during the RS interview because I feel like I can understand her mindset. I'm not like her, but it's much easier to understand her if there are reasons for why she is the way she is. Anyway, I just want to clarify that my thoughts do not stem from this article nor do I like Lana any less than I did before -

@@LiamViljoen I don't think she has a personality disorder solely because of that. It's been widely discussed all over the internet, It's a combination of factors. Besides, my or others' thinking so is not a vilification of her character in any way. It's simply food for thought. I don't understand why people get all up in arms when people think these things. In the past, deciding a celebrity was gay was tantamount to character assassination! It's kind of silly. -

@@bloodredjam, I do find a lot of what you posted intriguing and thought-provoking, but I don't feel any differently towards Lana/Lizzy regarding the things she has stated this time around. A lot of people have sex just for fun, to try and feel something besides numbness, to assuage loneliness etc. It doesn't mean they are using others or that they don't have good home lives. As you said prior, these types of actions can arise from mental illness- or they cannot. Doesn't really matter. It's no reason to dislike Lana, unless you adhere to a strict morality. I personally don't understand people who can do this, but I don't judge them. I think they must be missing something and they're looking for it. That's all. I do enjoy armchair diagnosing people and, especially in the cases of celebrities, they make it too easy sometimes. I dont find it disrespectful to do this as long as it's not judgment of their characters and instead genuine curiousity. -

I dont wanna quote everything you wrote, previous poster, but I agree with you. I definitely think Lana is mentally unstable. She seems textbook Borderline to me, her behavior is almost exactly like that of one of my close friends. Most of the time persons with disorders know there is something wrong but they lack the ability/desire to change. I could write much more but Im on my phone RN. -

I've written a few novels. Everyone says they are unmarketable But I wrote them for me so... Still, it's pretty much my only dream in life to get published. -

Wow, I love that she was so open about her relationship with Barrie ending. It's weird how she claimed it was due to his mental issues in the RS interview but now says it was destroyed by her OWN mental problems. Sad. At least she admits it. -
Black Beauty, without a doubt. Will forever be my favorite.

OMG I just discovered this song and it's so beautiful I actually really love the May Jailer era...

My mom loves this song So do I. It's just so LUSH. Well, I've been assuming the "old money" reference was perhaps referring to the fact that her teenage love came from old money- racing cars, cash, cashmere etc.- all of the things he gave to her. Her own life was simpler than that (sunsets, small town). She became entranced by the new lifestyle and fell in love with him through that. I feel like the narrator felt very alone and unloved before meeting this guy and is now feeling lonely again as an adult. So she reflects on the past and wishes she could feel that way again.

Lana Del Rey Speaks About Next Record, "Music to Watch Boys To"
LifeisBeautiful replied to Linethic's topic in New Releases
Ok, that's true of the lyrics you posted. It's a Third Eye Blind type of thing. I guess, if she had released music like that from the beginning, I would have accepted that dynamic. But now I'm way too into what she does best (which, IMO, is the whole of UV). -
Love this song. It's actually a lot deeper than most people think, juxtaposed with Whitman's poem. I always viewed it as being about a sad woman, who obviously has lost someone, and is trying to find happiness ie. her soul through her physical body. I like how, in the beginning, the religious members of society (Mary) are praying for her because they believe that's the wrong way to live, but convert to the other side at the end. It's very dark and tragic but hopeful at the same time.

No, just no I kind of hate all of Lana's "happy" music. It doesn't fit with her aesthetic at all. Music to Kill Boys To, Music to Do Drugs with Depressed Boys To, Music to Realize You're a Lesbian To...ok (LOL). -

I brought it up because I do it myself. I wonder about other people who do it. It's like we have a shocking amount of idealism that overrides logic. -

I read this article twice and I found it fascinating, from a psychological standpoint. It's almost as if Lana keeps trying to get different results from performing the same actions. Don't people like to say that's what insanity is? I'm not entirely sure what is going on in Lana's head but I would say she doesn't seem to be stable and is also extremely introverted. I'd even venture to say she may have some undiagnosed personality disorder. There's nothing wrong with that, except of course that the world will think you're a nutjob and criticize your every move. I was not offended at all by her bluntness on particular topics (especially the "I don't want them to hear it" line). I'm confused as to whether Lana actually wanted to become "a star," so to say, or just saw being famous as the means to getting her vision of the world across to others. I feel like now she despises that this was the way to do that. I don't know... I say all of this as a fellow introvert who has been closely involved with several "damaged" souls. I feel for Lana. -
I'm not very fond of Born to Die, lyrically or sonically (lol). The hip-hop vibe kills so many of the songs.

Songs & Musicians That Sound Similar to Lana

I've found old Stevie Nicks demos to be the most like Lana's unreleased stuff. Young Stevie's tone was almost the same as Lana's and she also repeats certain themes and lyrics throughout. I've been a huge Stevie fan since HS and the haunting quality of most of Lana's stuff really got to me in the same way. For some reason I cannot post videos on here But check out "Forest of the Black Roses" and "No Light."
