This is my favourite thing in a long time.

Also, I didn't quite fully grasp what she was explaining until I read this YouTube comment:

    Screenshot-20230511-065311-You-Tube.jpg

Edit: I also need to say, that ending from the diamonds dropping into blood, to the implied murder scene, to her smile at the ending... that gave me the same chill that her BTD era videos did with the car crash in BTD, being pulled underwater in Blue Jeans, the jump in Summertime Sadness, the shooting in National Anthem. This is full circle IM CryINg. Also thank you Jon Batiste. You were gorgeous too!

    agreed!

also Baptiste is hot af. I would go down on him for days...... days!

okay i feel like theyre all so close in greatness but i dont think ill ever get over the vintage space vibe and beautiful shots in love and the also vintage vibe but with lana as a femme fatale werewolf and beautiful cinematography (which im not saying candy necklace mv doesnt have ofc) its just too good. but candy necklace is a very VERY close contender it was sososos good

this video is miiiiiles better than chemtrails. That video's budget was 5 times less. Plus, the turning into wolves didn't really tie in with the music or make all that much sense.

Cv is why lana said "just got off the biggest shoot i've ever been involved in" a few months ago. Interecope cashed out big time. And for pure art. Well done them!

It's also great to have another good black and white mv (last one was wc ages ago)

hmmm this is interesting. i never thought of the relationship angle that could have lead to her death. someone said the older man represented the music industry/media but he felt more like a supportive figure up until the death scene so im unsure.

basically, the old man represents the music industry. Always driving her around, watching her in the back seat in the mirror, paying for everything.

john baptiste represents music. They perform together, they laugh at the people beneath them, they have fun behind the "man's"

    back.

then she dies (presumably killed or, rather, killed off by the old man/the industry) and baptiste is sad. his partner is dead.

but she gets a hollywood star in the afterlife. And the industry will keep making money off her image.

it's basically an afront to the american star-making machine and selling yourself and your art for money. Lana is saying she's not interested in that, anymore.

Was she killed by the end of it? Like pulling at her necklace then then jewels falling into red liquid, and the car abandoned?

Yeah in the car. Throwback to the born to die video. That's why baptiste is so shocked - because he sees her dead. Then it cuts to her in "heaven" on the hollywood walk of fame.

The story they're shooting is sth like she's dating / is sponsored by an older man but cheats on him with a musician she falls in love with and then she dies.

so it's got two stories happening in parallel - that's how i understood it at least.

Ok, I am usually the last person to get involved in the pointless back-and-forth's about someone's artistic vision and someone's subjective reaction to that very vision but believe me it is POSSIBLE to GET IT and still be able to experience a thought process in which you might wonder how things could have played out had the artist gone with a different direction of explaining their vision.

I get it that you get it and I get it that you love it but do you get that I get it and do you get that I might have a different opinion?

no. Because if you got it you woulda loved it. Soz

i mean, i think we all get it, the concept has been explicitly stated multiple times by lanz herself and we aren’t stupid :crai: i think most people are just critiquing it in the sense that it could’ve been done a little bit differently

it's perfect. In the video, she dies and gets a  Star on the fucking Hollywood walk of fame. Just like Marilyn and so many others she's channeling here. And for what? Being famous and celebrated? Were those icons happy? No.

the video couldn't have been more subversive and clever.

Candy Necklace continues to be that song, elevated by an amazing video.

    EPIC SLAY

    The concept

The deconstruction of pop culture glamour

The obvious shade at the music industry

    The diamonds in blood

    Lana's looks

    The fashion!

The throwback to National Anthem and Born to Die glamour

    The noir look and feel

The uber hotness of John Baptiste

How the teaser was already conceptual, when you think about it

    The fashion!!!

One of her top 10 if not 5 videos ever and her best since Don't Call Me Angel. Also, the best video of 2023 hands down.

    I am dead ☠️

Yup same as everyone, it's a cute behind the scenes video ... I was hoping that this whole behind the scenes thing was just an intro to the actual video but it lasted during the whole thing :toofunny:. That said, she looks phenomenal !!! Especially at the end when she's at Hollywood Walk of Fame, it's so Born To Die Lana ! Beautiful shots but the whole thing is kinda ruined by this behind the scences vibe

you're just not getting it babe. It's a dis of the whole idea of nonsense pop video culture.

music videos are dying out, people don't care, and the idea of Hollywood glamor and red carpet culture is tired af.

because everyone knows right now that behind it is hard work, and pain, and sweat, and blood and couch casting, and tons of money and advertising and unequal pay, etc

she explicitly voices this in the video by saying "i can't be a robot."

she's over the industry. Like really over it. Tired of playing the game. She dissed it with Arcadia but this is taking it to the next level.

So that's why she said "where do we go from here?" It's a full 180 from her BTD videos.

honestly, i think it's the best and most important video of the year.

I'm not sure it's about age I think it's about lots of things including the significant change in music style..

I see YTH charting, I also think this tour is going to be really good for her in the sense of reminding her of how fun touring is and like.. that music can be fun. And doesn't have to be about heavy karmic topics (inb4 the quotes I'm not shitting on the heavier music I'm obsessed with it but I also acknowledge that less people will like it)

    what's YTH?

  11. Hi guys,

I was just looking at Lana's Billboard 100 history, and noticed something... not great.

Her last entry as a solo artist on the chart was back in 2009 (Doin' Time).  Since then, we've seen her there but only with collabs (Don't Call Me Angel and Snow on the Beach).

Chemtrails, Blue Banisters nor Ocean Boulevard charted, which means her last three albums didn't have a hit.

Do you think this will change any time soon? And do you think America is closing the doors on her as she's hitting the age of 40?

    What's your take?

What’s a song that reminds you of music from the 80s from Lana? I’ll go first:

    Beautiful People Beautiful Problems

& obviously Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood :karaoke:

Hollywood! I wish she did a whole album sounding more disco. Would make for a great change, and would probably get her back to the charts.

coachella is perfectly fine and cry kill die is from hm sessions

    Ha. Good to know!

Well, I guess it doesn't fit HM that much. But would have fit on LFL production wise.

I'm in such dire need of a "Best of LDR unreleased" compilation with a tracklist like:

    1. Hollywood

    2. Serial Killer

    3. Angels Forever

    4. Cry Kill Die

    5. Backfire

    6. Yes to Heaven

    7. Ridin'

    8. French Restaurant

    9. You can be the Boss

    10. Drivin' in Cars with Boys

    11. Fine China

    12.  Goodbye Kiss

Maybe also Disco, Dragon Slayer and Your Girl.

Can you imagine how perfect that would be???

Maybe re-record it all with a producer like Max Martin or Rick Nowels and release as a new album?

there were confirmations that both Interludes were on it even when purify was supposed to be on the album

not feeling Purify much, based on the snippets. But would be good to hear.

Now CRY KILL DIE from her Lust for Life sessions. I NEED THAT FULL SONG ASAP lol.

Why was it left out when Coachella somehow made the cut? Ugh. It sounds soo good, and the line "I'll see you in hell" is Lana at her finest.

My top 5 songs from this album changes almost everyday omg but A&W is definitely always there. The song is perfection. The lyrics, instrumentals, beat switch, all of it just so good.
But tbh, it makes me kinda sad that the song is mostly only getting the success that it has gotten because of the “Jimmy” part. Not necessarily on this forum but mostly on tiktok (which I know- they kinda suck)

    Top 5

    1. Ocean Boulevard (one of her best ever)

    2. Paris, Texas

    3. Taco Truck

    4. Margaret

    5. A&W

    not summer bummer lmfao

That single was great. Something totally different for her and edgy.

I would have directed a horror style video with her and ASAP Rocky. Neon, dark, moody, like a horror theme ride. Also, should have been a double vid with Groupie Love.

I honestly can't believe that White Mustang got a super pricey video and Summer Bummer didn't. Super weird. Summer Bummer is THE bop of Lust for Life. And stands with Doin' Time as  Lana Del Rey's last solo bop.

Let’s be real it’s either scrapped or they’re alternating the edit to look less controversial or smn 😭 then we get another half assed mv

Or maybe they realized the video was bad? Lord knows, CN doesn't deserve a video. Especially not when songs like Wild at Heart, Summer Bummer, Brooklyn Baby, Cherry and other songs exist video-less.

  18. 13 hours ago, Vertimus said:

Yeah, I get the rich older man and the 'kept girl' or 'sugar baby' aspect, I just wish it was slightly more lyrically cohesive. And that does tie in, lyrically, to some of the BTD/P themes. The 'rockafella' part, musically, sort of jars with the rest of the song for me.

it's a a bit of a mess yeah lyrically, I've noticed that. Starts with her feeling happy in the car. Then does the whole rockefella umbrella and how much she loves him thing, then goes into the whole "empty promises" analogy and how messy he is.

I've officially entered the era of anxiety that the Candy Necklace video will never see the light of day and will join the list of projects she's mentioned and then never spoke of again. It's honestly criminal releasing this masterpiece of an album without a single music video... :crai:

while bb, a far lessor album, had 3 videos.
