Love this thread! Someone once said "If LDR was a Spice Girl, she'd be Literary Spice, and I totally agree with that. Her lyrics are as good as her vocals and her music, and they're what makes the whole thing (the Lana Del Rey thing) work. In her own words, she's a "writer first". Here are some of my personal favs (but there are many more!):

'Cause even in the dark I feel your resistance, you can see my heart burning in the distance"

"Me myself I like I diamonds"

"On the stop with the neighorhood kids, calling out, bang bang, kiss, kiss"

"I'm a different kind of woman. If you want some basic bitch then go to the Beverly Center and find her"

The entire bridge of Blue Jeans ("You went out every night, and, baby, that's all right...")

"Likes to watch me in the glass room, bathroom, Chateau Marmont, slipping on my red dress, putting on my make up, glass film, perfume, cognac, lilac fumes, says it feels like heaven to him"

"We both know, that it's not fashionable to love me." (what a great opening line for an album)

"God-damn, man-child, you fucked me so good I almost said "I love you" (same)

"Wo-wo-wo--wo-whoa, whatever, everything's whatever" (Lana doing nihilism to electric guitar and killing it, love VB to death)

"Down on the West Coast, they've gotta saying" and "I can see my baby swingin', his Parliament's on fire and his hands are up" (so specific)

"I’ve got things to do, like nothing at all/ I wanna do them with you/ Do you wanna do them with me?”

"f he's a serial killer, then what's the worst / That can happen to a girl who's already hurt?

    "I went to Paris... Texas"

"Oh, God, miss you on my lips... It' s me, your little Venice bitch"

"You know that I'd just die to make you proud"

"I've got things to say to you, but I'll just let you live"

Ok we are making progress. We went from flops to a fine song, I can live with that. LOL

    lmao

Well, I'm not gonna lie and say everything is terrible. The album has a few bright spots, mainly Black Bathing, Arcadia, If You Lie Down Next to Me, Wildfire, and Thunder. I can live with the title track as well. (Though none of the songs has entered my top 50, even prefer Hollywood Bowl to any of them, for examples).

If the whole album had that quality, it woulda been fine. But instead, we got Interlude (the Trio), a bunch of recycled unreleased songs that no one wanted, and utter shite like Beautiful, Sweet Carolina, Violet for Roses, and Text Book (her worst opening tack ever)

  3. 14 minutes ago, TexasTraveler said:

Flops?!? Text Book, Black Bathing Suit, Cherry Blossoms, Arcadia, ect... C'mon  I don't get the hate for BB album, it's F*****G GREAT! Now you can Blacklist me, LOL

None of those songs are even in my top 100 Lana songs. Maybe Black Bathing Suit. But the chorus is so basic, stupid and disjointed to the rest of the song ("He said I was bad, let me show you how bad girls do"). I guess if I had to name three off that album it'd be Black Bathing Suit, If You Lie Down Next to Me and Arcadia)..

  4. Hi y'all,

Was wondering what everyone's fav tracks are on each LDR record? Like, if you could save only three from each record, which one would you go for?

    BTD:

    Blue Jeans

    Video Games

    Summertime Sadness

    (Sorry Born to Die)

    Paradise:

    Ride

    Cola

    God's and Monsters

    (Sorry, American)

    UV:

    West Coast

    Ultraviolence

    Shades of Cool

    HM:

    High by the Beach

    Music to Watch Boys to

    Art Deco

(Sorry The Blackest Day, but you belong on UV anyway)

    LFL:

    Lust for Life

    Summer Bummer

    Groupie Love

    NFR:

    Mariner's Apartment Complex

    Venice Bitch

    The greatest

(Sorry NFR, Happiness, Doin' Time, California, FILY and Bartender, love ya to death)

    COCC:

    White Dress

    Chemtrails over the Country Club

    Wild at Heart

(probably the most perfect trio on any of her albums conceptually after NFR. Wild at Heart deserves so much more love. And it shoulda been the first single)

    BB:

    N/A (it sucked)

    OB:

    Ocean Boulevard

    AW

    Candy Necklace

(This album is her least cohesive sonically so it's hard to choose three great tracks that sound like they're from the same album. Margaret and Let the Light in might be better choices to go with OB conceptually, though)

    okay well my ranking:

    1. uv

    2. ob

    3. nfr

    4. hm

    but BLUE BANISTERS? :air:

When someone says they love BB and rank it high, I mentally blacklist them and never read anything they say again. And not just on the topic of LDR lmao

Love this ranking! Pretty similar to mine, especially the bottom slate.

What about your thoughts on the rest of the tracks she dropped this year? Hollywood Bowl?

Unleaked songs that we got this year (not including demos of songs we already have):

oh my lord, havent heard any of these

except China. I thought this song is older?

also, why didn't she add it to BB? It woulda been better than most songs on that shyte record and fit perfectly with the forelorn sound

    Sweet

    The Grants

    What the hell:

    Hollywood Bowl

Wuuuuut??? For me, Hollywood Bowl is in her top 50 ever. Such a gorgeous song (and this coming from someone who's really over her piano balladry). What is wrong with you? 🤣

  8. Hey guys,

As Lana's collab with Jon Batiste approaches (few more days now), I thought it'd be fun for us to rank all of Lana's songs released in 2023 (so far).

Here's the full list of tracks.

    “The Grants”
“Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd”
    “Sweet”
    “AW”
    “Judah Smith Interlude”
    “Candy Necklace”
    “Jon Batiste Interlude”
    “Kintsugi”
    “Fingertips”
    “Paris, Texas”
“Grandfather Please Stand On The Shoulders Of My Father While He’s Deep-Sea Fishing”
“Let The Light In (feat. Father John Misty)”
     “Margaret (feat. Bleachers)”
     “Fishtail”
     “Peppers (feat. Tommy Genesis)”
     “Taco Truck x VB”

    "Say Yes to Heaven"

“Snow on the Beach” (more Lana Del Rey) - with Taylor Swift

“Lost at Sea” - with Rob Grant

    "Hollywood Bowl" with Rob Grant

Of course, I'll start. For me, it'd go something like:

    Great

    1. Ocean Boulevard (even though I believe it's technically released last year but let's go with it)

    2. Snow on the Beach (a lot of you will hate me for it, but I love the lightness of the song and how poppish it is, I miss commerical Lana)

    3. A&W

    4. Say Yes to Heaven

    5. Taco Truck x VB (die-hard fan of Venice Bitch so this has to be in the top 5)

    6. Hollywood Bowl (I never thought I'd like a collab with her dad this much, but I genuinely think it's a great ballad)

    Excellent

    7 Let the Light in

    8. Paris, Texas

    9. Candy Necklace (grown on me)

    10. Margaret

    11. Grandfather, please stand on the shoulders of my father...

    Good

    12. Sweet

    13. The Grants

    14. Peppers

    15. Fishtail

    Bad

    16. Jon Batiste Interlude

    17. Judah Smith Interlude

    18. Kintsugi (so boring)

    Terrible

    19. Fingertips (hate it)

    20. Lost at Sea (only listened to it once, sounds like it was made up on the spot)

  9. 1. Born to Die
    2. Did you Know that there's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard

    3. Ultraviolence

    4.  Norman Fucking Rockwell

    5. Chemtrails over the Country Club

    6. Lust for Life

    7. Honeymoon

    8. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass

    9. Blue Banisters

She released Peppers and made zero efforts to promote it, so dont think its even a thing about the song being more or less commercial, she's just thinking about other stuff.

Peppers isn't really radio friendly and poppish that much, which is why it wasn't released as a single and no one knows about it

I had a really similar experience to this! Moved from sunny Los Angeles to work in China for a bit. It was winter and freezing cold all the time. Listening LDR kept me warm.

Right?? So glad she got her big break. She really got me through some tough times. Also, her every new album is the soundtrack to different periods of my life. Except Blue Banisters, I played that shit twice, washed my ears, and never played it again.

By this I mean what was your most memorable moment in life listening to Lana? My example: I met an online friend for the first time, we spent a 3 day vacation in Venice together and taking the train home, I listened to VB. The Venice train station has train tracks that go directly by the sea/ through the water, so I was sitting in this vintage looking train compartment all by myself, the sea and sunset moving past me and I was crying, thinking I may never see my friend again and already missing her and listening to VB… If my life was a movie that would definitely be my cinematic ending scene :crying4:

I started studying in a foreign country, had zero friends, and discovered Blue Jeans and Video Games. It was winter and, literally, I had days of just walking and listening to her music. It saved my ass. Couldn't wait for the album.

It took Summertime Sadness 10 Years to hit 500 millions stream and then 1 year to double that and hit 1 Billion. I'm sorry but that's delulu to say she's not more mainstream than she was when she dropped BTD. Also LFL was a commercial flop

wasn't lfl #1 on Billboard? And got nominated for best vocal pop album. A "flop" that spawned some of her biggest hits in Love and Lust for Life. Also, do you have to be a skank and call me "team delulu" when I'm taking time out of my life to respond to your thread?

if you only want to hear yourself, go talk to a mirror, not a forum.

5 hours ago, Good Intentions said:

This time she deserves at least a nomination, not only because of the quality of the album (as if that plays a big role at the Grammys :deadbanana:), but also because she has done everything possible to raise her profile (collab with Taylor and big festival tour), she is higher on Spotify than ever and has one of the best selling albums in the US this year. Maybe her collabs with Jon Batiste and FJM will help, too.

    Those collabs definitely help.

the problem is they put her down as pop so she's gonna go against the likes of miley and taylor and other big sellers

  14. 2 hours ago, loveyoumadly said:

I totally agree with both of you tbh BUT she's never been as much mainstream as she is now that's why I'm thinking she's def getting nominated and perhaps win, also I don"t think they're companying for best alternative but for AOTY, I mean she did get nominated for NFR and OB was as well received by critics and touched more public, it's more popular

Lana is not mainstream now more than she was when she made Born to Die. She was also more mainstream during Lust for Life when she dropped a song with the Weekend, who's massive. They screwed her over both times. She also had best-album-of-the-year with NFR, and they screwed her over again.

She's just not a cash cow for them and she doesn't do brown-nosing around the industry and suck dick. Therefore, it'll never happen. Maybe if she had a single or two on the Billboard 100 and proved her commercial success more.

Also, no one cares about the Grammy's except the Grammy's themselves and people who have money riding on it. Literally, fuck the Grammy's.

  15. 18 hours ago, loveyoumadly said:

    Hi all,

I was thinking, with ALL the promo that's been going on since OB was released, I'm pretty sure it's a Grammy campaign ! What do you think will be nominated ? A&W for SOTY ? Candy Necklace or SOTB for best duo ? OB for AOTY ? I wanna know what you think !

Maybe it'll be fun to recap all the promo / releases / marketing that happened and make predictions !

AW didn't really chart much and it's a song about whoring. I don't think the Grammy's will go near it. They reward safe choices like Taylor Swift's music.

If they campaign for best alternative album, they'll probably get a nomination. But the award will go to someone else who makes more money.

The Grammy's are a business reward. It's not about the music. So, I don't think Lana will ever get anything. Not until she starts shaking her ass and showing her tits and starts making music like "Bejeweled" or "Wrecking Ball." Sorry babe but this dream is a no-go

  16. 54 minutes ago, SuperMegaStan said:

i thought it was a director's cut without the dialogue in between sessions like girl what do you expect for a 10 minutes loop of candy necklaces :deadbanana:the base want Let the Light In, Peppers, A&W, Paris Texas, etc :deadbanana:

I like the song. But it was her most bizarre choice of song to get the MV treatment since... she started her career 😂  In a way, she's lucky it didn't accumulate 7 views with how depressing the song is

    AW

    OB

    And

Let the light in shoulda got MVs. Although I would have trimmed AW down to 4 minutes to guarantee success.

AW could have been a hot cinematic video with her vaping and sleeping with all these different men in hotels and then murdering them, tongue n cheek. Woulda made such a powerful statement after all her masochistic content

OB coulda been a simple Burning Desire video with her singing in a lounge bar, intercut with clips of the ocean and Ocean Boulevard.

And Let the Light in could have been a cinematic love story with her and FJM.

We coulda got so much content
