i would, in fact, especially considering how none of the things you listed are a factor of being on time

it's easy to judge while you sit on your ass on your sofa with a bag of chips

The fact is: we don't know what her reasons were, how she's doing or what she's going through.

personally, i'm just happy she didn't start shooting up with all the god-damn flack she's getting.

no wonder cobain, amy w. and so many others died young. The pressure is high, flaws are not allowed, and everyone has an opinion. We're lucky she's even making music tbh.

it would be okay if this was once every now and then. but this has been going on for years, and it has only gotten much worse this year (30-50 minute delays... yikes), so there is no defending here.

well, I'd like to see it you'd make it in time to perform for 10s of thousands of people in a foreign country, whilst also juggling your wealth, relationships, family life, career, next album, contractual obligations, everyone's high expectations, a healthy body image, pets, and god-knows-what-else.

I think Lana- truthfully- was wrong and she should step up her game… being late is late though right? Why she was 30 minutes late on that Abu Dhabi show and still be allowed to extend her time was because it was her own show. She’s a grown woman and needs to take responsibility and professional because it’s a festival after all

    Disagree. She's a human. Not a robot.

People wait for all kinds of services for 30 minutes or more - what's the big deal? You go to a doctor but they're slammed and ask you to wait. You wait. You go to have your hair done and the hairdresser wants to have a smoke because they've had the crappiest day. You let them have it. You go to a rock concert and the band shows up a bit later so you grab a fucking beer and chill.

God, I wish everyone would just take their sticks out of their asses. The constant whining about celebrities not being PERFECT 24/7 is insane. I bet every one of those people who complains about Lana is routinely late 30 minutes or more to everything in their life, including showing up for work in the morning. Would bet my life on it.

  4. What does everyone here think about the Glastonbury controversy? Couldn't find any Glastonbury threads for this discussion.

My opinion: that audience is lucky, period. Lana is an absolute genius and she's getting flack all the fucking time. It's a miracle she still hasn't hung up her boxing gloves, said "fuck it," and retired. If she were a man or a band would they even do this? I saw her in Abu Dhabi a few years ago, she was 30 minutes late, but no one gave a fuck. She played a full concert, it was incredible, and the delay didn't phase anyone. I think the world today is just incredibly PC, nitpicky and and angry at everyone and everything. Remember Amy Winehouse being drugged out of her mind on stage just a decade ago? I honestly miss those days. This is seriously pathetic for everyone involved, especially Glastonbury, and it's not in the spirit of rock n' roll. If you want punctuality, go see the organ player in your local church, right?

The album is still lovely months later. I still haven't connected with Paris, Texas and Peppers so it will probably never happen but I love the rest!

It's funny how people connect to different sounds, isn't it? Lots of people elooove those songs. I personally like PT a lot. I'm indifferent towards Peppers.

  7. So, the Say Yes to Heaven YouTube video has more views than Kylie Minogue's absolute banger Padam Padam.

7.6M against Kylie's 7.3M, and they were both released one month ago.

SYTH has already beat the views of Blue Banisters video, Summertime Gershwin, Looking for America, Season of the Witch, Love (Official Audio), Music to Watch Boys to (Official Audio), I Can Fly, etc. Soon, it'll beat Ocean Boulevard and become the track with the most views on YouTube in this era!

What an unexpected slay for Lana! I wonder how many other unreleased songs would achieve the same results?

Thad said, if they follow up with another song right away, it'll look desperate. They should wait until autumn.

Kim Petras is a good option for that.

no idea who that is. I do like Charlie Xx tho. I reckon Lana could do something upbeat with her ala Doin' Time. A Dua Lipa collab would break the internet. Maybe an 80s style retro dance track?

btw the trailer to Sofia Copppla's Pricilla is out. Any chance Lana is on the soundtrack? That would be a career highlight. And with Lana's obvious resemblance to Pricilla and multiple mentions of Elvis in her music and Coppola's

flawless music taste, it's likely, right?

  9. I'm just thinking, imagine the success OB would have had if Taylor Swift was one of the features?

Like, if Lana and Jack just asked  Taylor to do some backing vocals or whatever on one of the tracks.

I reckon OB would have become Lana's second biggest album after BTD. Kinda wish it were true.

    Thoughts?

a validation checkmark for her resume basically, she has one of the most immaculate legacy out there and her impact needs to be recognised by some sort of award and stuff, i know the "impact" is not defined by awards but having it as a validation still better than just words.

It's like wishing your favorite actor to win an Oscar. It's perfectly healthy. It's the top award in the industry and LDR was nominated several times. It's time she won.

Wonder what her chances are of winning a Grammy

I think they're pretty solid, if they submit her in the Alternative album category.

She's got reputable collaborators on the record (Antonoff, John Batiste, Father John Misty etc), she's in her prime streaming wise (top 10 female artists on Spotify), she just had a collab with Taylor Swift putting her back into mainstream, she had two songs on the Billboard 100 (Snow, Heaven), the album is doing okay streaming wise, and most importantly - the album is her best reviewed since NFR (which they screwed her over with and they know it).

I'm just worried Ben/Interscope is gonna drop the ball again and submit it in the pop category, which would be a massive mistake. There's not a single pop song on the record. Not one.

in 2 years i hope i want a break and i want her cook up some more A&W's for us

I hope one year but with fewer songs, more big songs and zero interludes. Just a 10 song album with no skip would be perfect. Kinda drives me crazy how Lana produces 2 songs per month since Norman and there are still tracks that don't make it. Quality Lanita, por favor. Fuck fillers and interludes

    Yayo

    Bel air

    cruel world

    sad girl

    religion

    Heroin

    wildflower wildfire

    kintsugi

it would be unreal.. all acoustic and intimate and raw ugh

with an Alice In Chains cover thrown in- preferably nutshell or no excuses

Omg, Religion is such a good shout! I forgot about Honeymoon completely.

Unreleased wise I want French Restaurant or a real version of Melancholia because they're both so raw.

Released wise definitely How To Disappear and Yayo (even though I dislike the song.)

I agree. Yayo would be a fine addition. Plus, we need another song off Paradise.

Loveee French Restaurant, hope she releases it one day.

As tired of it as I am, she'd have to do video games.

I'd also like an Eartha Kitt cover somewhere.

Two Lovers would be interesting for Lana I think.

    Or Lilac Wine or Freddy

      Reveal hidden contents

OMG! Yes, a new cover would be brilliant. At work now, but will listen to this track later.

  14. Hey guys,

Since we know LDR is a big Nirvana fan, do you think she'll ever do a televised unplugged concert ala Nirvana's iconic MTV unplugged? I reckon this would be legendary especially with so many of her songs being on the intimate and acoustic side.

My ideal track list for this would be something like:

    1. Ride

    2. Young & Beautiful

    3. Snow on the Beach feat. Taylor Swift

    4. Chemtrails over the Country Club

    5. Say Yes to Heaven

    6. Let the Light in Feat. Father John Misty

    7. Religion

    8. When the World was at War, We Just Kept Dancing

    9. Lust for Life feat. The Weeknd

    10. Bartender

    11. Tomorrow Never came Feat. John Lennon

    12. White Dress

    13. Did You Know that l there's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard

    14. Margaret feat. Jack Antonoff

    15. Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have, but I have it

    16. How to Disappear

    17. Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems feat. Stevie Nicks

    18. Paris, Texas

    19. Video Games

    20. Hollywood Bowl with Rob Grant

    21. Not all who Wander are Lost

Thoughts? Too many songs? Which ones would you go with?

Why are you always so abrasive when you’re defending your opinions? Pop culture is in a very particular wavelength where everything is meant to be consumed as fast as possible: songs are chopped up and sped to fit minute-sized videos and fancaps and also to suit the latest trends until the the next ones come along. It comes with no surprise that most people that dwell in the internet and are more likely to be exposed to Lana’s music aren’t quite inclined to listen to longer songs like Kintsugi and Fingertips when they’re the same people who propelled easier-to-digest songs like Boy’s a Liar Pt.2 to mainstream success.

Longer, more introspective songs that have no interest in catering to the mainstream’s sensibilities and trends have always been a constant in music, ranging from artists like Björk and Tori Amos to Jeff Buckley and Radiohead among so many others, most of whom are clear influences and inspirations to Lana. It’s ok to not like them but to use spotify stats as a determining factor as to why an artist like Lana - who spent her entire career fighting to have the right to swim against the tide to the beating of her own drum - is being less successful is pointless. Every time people questioned why she was doing things a certain way instead of more obvious alternatives, she proved time and time again that following her gut and honoring her whims is exactly why she’s one of the most respected and celebrated artists working today.

I hear ya. All valid points. Thanks for sharing.

But I think you also missed my point. Which was that it's no accident that Fingertips and Kintsugi have the worst streaming numbers alongside Lana songs like The Trip or Flipside or Beatiful - they're just not that great as songs, and fans seem to agree

Let's not mystify things and talk about Bjork and Radiohead and introspection. Lana was alternative from the start, and charts were never Lana's obsession

It's just that if they were good songs, people would stream then a lot more, it's that simple. Look at Ocean Boulevard, that's also a slow, introspective ballad. Yet it's the second most streamed on the record. Paris Texas, right up there.

Yea, the opinion of the masses doesn't mean much. Who cares and people have awful taste. But still, if I was writing all these songs and my voice note "song" came last in streaming, I most definitely wouldn't rush to do 10 more of those.

I just wanted to find some people to know if anybody else likes every Lana song she has released like:

i see a lot of people that don’t like BTD or HM (boring) or LFL (random) or COTCC (lazy) or BB (just not good) but I legit like every song she has made, even if I don’t stream it all the time. Like guns and roses, I don’t stream it all the time but I don’t hate it, I like it. So I just wanted to know if there’s other people who also like all her songs and don’t hate any of them????

I adore Lana and about 100 of her songs. Venice Bitch, Video Games, Ride, Born to Die, West Coast and so many others I've listened to for what feels like an eternity.

But some are objectively atrocious. Like that You will never walk alone Liverpool trash track. Hurts the ears.

Other songs I think are garbage: Lost at Sea, Summertime - Gerhswin Version, Freak, Fingertips, Coachella, The Other Woman, Don't Let me be Misunderstood, Guns and Roses, Flipside, Change, all of her interludes and most tracks on Blue Banisters.

Lolita is my one hard pass

after that I don’t really like lust for life or violets for roses, but I will tolerate them lol

Then everything else I like.. and in fact I tried to make a playlist consisting of only my favourite songs from her studio albums and it still has 83 songs in there lol

Ah, yeah, Lolita too. Hurts the ears litearlly. A lot of songs on BTD I just never play. But the highs of that album - my god.
