The fact that it's close at all is so bleak

She’s still writing and recording allegedly, so I can see waking up one morning inspired by one thing and the next day feeling like it’s taking a new direction… tbh makes me feel like she’s more relatable lol. But the confusion is almost impressive

Maybe she said “emo country” and the Italians translated it to “southern gothic”.

I'm literally having nightmares in which Lana rises from a swamp, whispers ''s**thern g*th*c'' in my ear and turns into a gator

I also think it's their wording about the album having too much "American flair" rather than Southern Gothic, because this isn't the only interview where she mentions it.

Honestly I think she may have been talking about American flair and too much of that very American aesthetic part of the post. That doesn’t really sound like something she would say because so much of her art has been based on the Americana aesthetic. We know she has talked about Southern Gothic before so I don’t think she is referring to that part.

When Lana’s trolling us and the mistake was mixing up “and” and “but” then what

I love how she doesn’t clarify at all what she means

She’s mentioned southern gothic in 2 separate interviews now and I’m sure her team had final approval of that article before it was published. She is so

The vagueness makes her a true enigma…it would not be on brand to give a direct statement.

I kind of get what Lana meant when she said that she didn't recognize herself in a pure country sound. Lana is known for being a trailblazer, and I interpret what she says as her realizing that while she admires her country friends like Nikki, along with her new country surroundings, she let herself become too influenced by them creatively for her own projects. She could love what her new influencers do, but at the end of the day it's what they do and not what she does. And I think that Lana realized that she needs to follow her own path and put more of herself into the record.
PS: If she's considering unreleased tracks I'm hoping for Lake Placid and Dragon Slayer

I think this song is a part of the new direction she's talking about. I think "Has anyone else died for you?" and the fenway song are part of the gothic sound.

Wait, I just realized she said regarding Lasso: "there was a lot of 'American flair', too much of that American aesthetic." Who was it that claimed she was hesitant about releasing around the election and that some songs are political in nature akin to God Bless America...?? Maybe they actually knew something

it really is so inspiring how she has lived her life and manifested and traversed through the darkness & the uncertainty in finding a manager & then the culture criticism of her lyrics back in 2013/2014 and now where people are open for those sort of lyrical contents. idk it just makes me feel emotional and excited to see where this new record goes and what it inspires ugh the vogue interview made me happy emotional for some reason and the tea that she and Francesco were engaged. and her wondering his thoughts on her 2019 cover. idk all the feels.

Ngl if if comes in summer that would be a win for me. I want a Lana album released in summer again for so long now
Maybe it will be a good soundtrack to rainy thunderstorm summer nights and humid summer evenings with mosquitos delivering the southern swamp vibe

This was a great read. It sounds like the album is developing into a more appropriate follow-up to OB

Lasso was a cute name but if it's not going to be country (it probably still has some elements) I'd prefer something darker and powerful

Southern gothic truthers riiiiisssee im glad she’s deciding to switch up the vibe, she didn’t seem confident about bandwagoning the country trend. She always delivers something unique, so southern gothic sounds more authentic

It's curious that she said that southern gothic was the first concept in mind. I thought she wanted country at first and then it evolved into southern gothic not the other way around
Unless she's talking about the newest stuff and not about the songs she started writing years ago which makes more sense
I'm really excited even if the album is still far (this interview took place more than a month ago and her latest comments a couple of days ago were really similar so I guess there hasn't been much progress but to be fair she literally got married )

I find it so interesting how open and transparent she’s been this era about not being satisfied with where her music is.
Tropico/UV went through major changes, LFL went through major changes, RCS/BB went through major changes but she never talked about it, she’s been so open and transparent this time around about not being completely happy with what she’s created
