wow, so glad i joined this and finally found other lana stans
i didn't read the whole thread but i have a few things to add
i used to think dark paradise was about k and dealing with his death. until i heard the demo version, which threw me off a bit. but maybe. maybe k isn't actually dead, but dead in a metaphorical sense?? like maybe he got too deeply involved in crime and sirens could be lana predicting what she think may be k's future. maybe blue jeans is about what really happened with k - he was too involved in making money and crime so the relationship ended. i've always imagined that jim reminded lana of k. i have no evidence for this though. i'm not sure if bill even exists. in driving with cars with boys she may have just used billy because it's a fairly generic name. as for trash magic, i always assumed bill was just a nickname. perhaps role playing with her man. it makes me think of bill clinton, which sounds stupid i know i really wanna know whether she actually got with mr campbell or just fantasized  as for young an beautiful, i kinda think that it isn't really about anyone, maybe only loosely based on someone. after all, it was written for a movie. there are so many possibilities. but i really hope that in like 20 or 30 years lana releases an autobiography where she explains everything. that would be amazing.

You know when a gang member kills someone they get a teardrop tattoo for each life lost right in the Same place lana has hers in the Y&B video. She's known for having a love of gang culture so I wouldn't doubt she knows that, maybe she's trying to tell us something, no not that she killed someone (or two people rather), something else...

Who Radio is about haunts me
I do think it's about Jimmy though, in Radio she sings "how do you like me now?" a line she also used in Get Drunk, and in GD she sings "I am sleeping with your best friend" and I loosely remember reading something about there being a triangle drama between Lana, Jimmy and some other dude. (Arthur?)

It bothers me that in the HDB demo she sings "Ruby Tuesday's or Citco, I loved you then" and in Every Man Gets His Wish she sings "He found me waitressing at Ruby Tuesdays" and references a Chevy/Chevrolet in both but in This Is What Makes Us Girls she sings "Teachers said we'd never make it out alive" and back in EMGHS "You said I'd never make out outta here alive"

It's like she's doing it on purpose to confuse us

Before Sirens leaked I thought For K Part 2 was about David Kahne, as someone stated previously.

In that facebook-interview (the one where she says "I just thought it was so sad that like, I don’t know, God had found someone so perfect for me and that we really couldn’t be together") she talks about the person she had a relationship with that influenced BTD and she says "we were birds of a feather"

In a Lizzy Grant interview she says
"My producer, David Kahne, and me got along very well because he knew that I lived in my songs, and so he just tried to make them better. He asked me in a letter what I wanted the record to sound like, and I said, “I want it to sound famous, like a sad party.” He thought that was a wonderful idea, and we began working the next day. I like to think we’re birds of a feather."

It's probably nothing, she's just using the phrase to describe different people, but I did used to think that FKP2 was about their (professional) relationship, "Use that voice, sing that song , And tell me to come on, to come on, come on" but this doesn't really fit with For K (or anything else for that matter), still, it might interest some.

I used to think K was Elvis. She's said that she was obsessed with him as a teenager, K is for King, Elvis was The King.
Elvis' body guards were called the Memphis Mafia - gangsters (not literally), and in Gangsta Boy she sings "high school, loved you from the beginning". She's also said that when she saw Elvis for the first time she was blown away by his beauty. In Lucky Ones she sings "everybody told me love was blind, then I saw your face and you blew my mind".
    In
interview (or it might be in part 2) the interviewer asks her if Million Dollar Man is about Elvis, and she says "maybe" and smiles. "One for the money, two for the show" is also a lyric in Blue Suede Shoes. When I googled it I found that the expression "one for the money..." is one used in horse racing, as in Off to the Races. And obviously Elvis fits the description in American "tall, tan/skin so golden brown" although it doesn't really makes sense that American would be about him since she namedrops him. Also, Elvis is from Mississippi (Raise Me Up). I thought that maybe, since a lot of people think she writes each song about more than one person, that she uses Elvis as a base-character and then writes autobiographically around that base... if that makes sense.

I'm sure Y&B is about Jimmy Gnecco (also Radio and Bel Air)

I just read this on wikipedia: "In Nabokov's 'Lolita', the name is used in reference to Mr Clare Quilty, the man who takes Lolita from Humbert. Carmen and Clare being both male and female names, Lolita uses them to deceive Humbert into thinking he is a woman and no threat."
I knew there was a song in Lolita called Carmen

and so I assumed that's where she got the name from. I'm not sure if it's relevant or not (God, imagine if every song she's ever written is just fan fiction about Lolita) but thought I'd share.

And this has been bothering me for a while, in the album booklet it says "Thank you to my devoted managers Ben Mawson and Ed Millett. And to A.G."
    Who is A.G.?

But knowing her class president is just another way of her saying teacher, without really saying it. She loves her some presidential figures and grown ass men. I'm thinking its just another nickname for leader of the classroom, not its literal definition of a student who's in charge of his grade's recreational activities.

Finally got through all of this! Aaaaah. Need to nurse my brain ache for a moment.

Now, first I would like to start off by saying, Lizzy said (I think in the Mike interview?) fantasy is her reality. She has often spoken about drawing influence from films, landscape, architecture, etc.

Enter broken Lana. Should all these things be true, I really do feel as though she could have either tried to commit suicide, or behaved recklessly enough that it might as well have counted as a death wish. I think a lot more of the songs are about this pain than we think. I also think more are about addiction than we think.

    My take on Cola

I would also like to add, who is to say that Mike wasn't a coin in Lana's revelry? Just because he is older, doesn't mean he couldn't have used drugs, abused alcohol, etc. that sort of changes the foundations of Video Games? If Yayo is a prequel to Video Games, is there a chance that they are about the same person?

Oh, and going through this thread, what was with Mike and the film credits? Was there a post with information that has been deleted? I think I missed all that.

And I wanna know, who the hell is Put Me In A Movie really about?!? It's way to accusatory.

That's all I can think to say for now, sorry its all over the place. My brain is frizzle-fried! Not to mention I think I've lost a few points of eyesight on each eye. Great thread though! You guys are brilliant super sleuths, and I feel honored to be in the presence of such sneaky genius.

I think the post is right, she's talking about her influences and who created 'her', at one point it was Elvis and Marilyn, probably her early days were she was influenced by his music and her glamour which is reflected in her songs and dress and later Whitman (a "proper" writer where she feels like she has validated her song writing as good) and Monaco (money and glamour sophistication) heaven she's a bit obsessed with and for some reason she considers it precious and her 'baby', suicides her father; how she feels she can see/be/reach her heaven and 'opulence'is the end I take that as indulgence etc, what were her favourite vices? Drugs and alcohol? I take the last line as the way to get to the end? As in to die. Hope this makes sense

What you said makes perfect sense to me. Even more if you think that her parents were not daily present in her life for a long time since she got into boarding school at 14. Her parents were the music she listen too, movies she watched and books she read it. She was raised by her idols in a way. They were the maternal and paternal figures she had while in boarding school and when she lived alone in NY.

Wow! This is a really awesome thread! All/most of your theories seem quite likely to me and I really enjoyed reading it (I didn't read all yet, but do it soon).
I've also often been thinking about the relations between Lana's songs and her live but didn't ever found out that much.

So I just wanted to thank you all for this topic. You've  made my day!

I think You & Me is about K. Saying give heaven a try, you're god's favorite child, you're gonna light up the skies, and I also think it's just you and the sun now is referring to heaven. It's all a reference towards his death.

When she says try hard to remember the day, maybe she isn't talking to him...but rather herself. She's reminiscing. She's thinking back to those memories of/with him.

or maybe if she is talking to him, him being alive or not...it could be she's reminiscing with him. Also telling him to give heaven a try, reassuring him by saying he's going to light up the skies and that he's god's favorite child.

Guys, I'm new around here and I was just reading everything until now (lol, hi)
But I've been thinking about this connection that could be interesting.
Listening to "Every Man Gets His Wish" I noticed this part I didn't pay attention before: "you said I'd never make it out of here alive"
what leads me to "This Is What Makes Us Girls", "TEACHERS said we'd never make it out alive"
    Anyone noticed that already?

I'm aware of all the lyrics talking about abuse (hit me, my darling, tonight / I don't know why, but I like it), but I just hope she was being somewhat...figurative.

Jimmy's tattoo is definitely a dragon, but honestly that's close enough to a snake for me Don't know if you've read the OP, lola (no fault if you haven't), but she definitely posted the song on his Facebook. Yayo and Jimmy Gnecco are probably the only songs we can totally, definitively attribute to one guy.

I guess he wasn't drowning in money, but to think he was a drug dealer in addition to being a ~rockstar~ is strange.

Some things to suggest "You & Me" isn't about Jimmy:
    - Blue water from the sea, hands all over me vs. Kill Kill's (or rather, The Ocean's) I'm in love lying in the sand--a K song. And Dark Paradise is sometimes considered a sequel to Kill Kill, so...ocean shit = K?
    - Jimmy isn't the only man on earth with tattoos.

I often facepalm at Lana's lyrics (but I have some tattooed on me as well...) LOL.

I fucking hate every reference to "your golden grill."  I also think the lyrics to "Stoplite Delite" are dumb, especially:

"Fly body, dope in the face."

I thought the song was really cute and catchy till I caught myself singing that godawful line.

In Twin Peaks Dale Cooper says "Windom Earle's mind is like a diamond. It's cold, and hard, and brilliant."

She also quotes Officer Brown in Backfire “Kids, come out. Ain’t no way to live, let me show you how.”
