  1. I offered my subjective opinion on what I heard in the snippet (actually I did't, but now I am forced to ), not judgement about the whole song which still doesn't exist in our collective consciousness. Also, Lana's music isn't an empirical science so that we should all obey to its established dogmas; everybody gets its own impression based on his or her personal experience or emotional condition. That snippet to me represents small window or a crack through which a dash of certain atmosphere sneaked, but I surely won't inscript in stone my opinion on something I don't have a single clue how it sounds in its completeness based on just a tiny patch. I don't prejudice, I just bring my casual surmise, which is a huge difference. But whatever, that debate is old already. :)
  2. I adore that book, and despite its thickness, it is perfect summer read; I remember devouring it on the beach, boiling in the sun. I like the difference between Lolita's aesthetics, where Nabokov interpolates jargon and kooky linguistic hybrids to depict flamboyancy and quirkiness of dizzy nymphet - and everything is fluid, and Ada's more elaborate, baroque, antiquish language, but also intertwined with his neologisms and retrofuturistic juggling with language, to produce the most intricate and sonically exquisite word and syntax delicacies - and all is like flaunting arabesque. (I hope it makes sense in english ) I just read book of poems by Ingeborg Bachmann, "In The Storm Of Roses" (the title is a little bit corny in my opinion, but the poems are full-blooded). And I'm just jumping on "The Ugly Rennaisance" by Alexander Lee, with subtitle: "Sex, Disease And Excess In The Age Of Beauty"), can't wait to indulge in the dirty secrets of that era, together with turbulent destinies of classic giants, although I prefer baroque, mannerism, romanticism, fin de siècle and moderna as art eras. Yeah, summertime sadness (I'm always infected by one) is a perfect target to be beaten with diving through library treasures, unless you are diving through the azures and turquoises of the ocean.

  7. This. Mature people with integrity, the sense of their own and other people's personal boundaries and respect for everyone's opinion, especially if it differs from theirs, won't order someone else what to think or say. It is fanatical and egotistic. C'mon, there are topics about worst Lana's lyrics, worst Lana's songs, worst Lana's appearances where people spill out worst offenses, even when they claim that they unconditionally adore Lana till the end of eternity (read: double standards which stem from non-fixed principles), and still there is so huge fascist attitude that others aren't entitled to their humblest notion. --- That would be my unpopular opinion. --- But I guess such personas are very young, therefore often exclusive, passionate and rigid in their point of view. I don't blame them, but I would expect much more democratic approach on such an influential and important board. After all (assuming that many of participants are USA citizens), America is a country that praises itself for ultimative freedom of speach, at least on paper, so why wouldn't we all be more flexible and tolerant. Maybe I expect too much. And those „polite“ requests: „Go away“ – reading such, I feel like I'm in the kindergarten. „My Dad is stronger/bigger than yours“ rhetoric, derived from fueled teen hormones and foaming illusions (or delusions) of grandeur.

  10. Just an opinion, one in the ocean of others: besides my wish for potential Lynchian dreamy, eerie, mysterious atmosphere of her HM music, it would be superhot if "Music To Watch Boys To" video would be steamy summer sexy sensual fiery debauched drama-romance which, in my fantasies, has something in common with "Domino Dancing" by Pet Shop Boys (I don't usually listen to them, but I don't mind hearing that song on the radio): sassy femme fatale that stirs spirits (phrase for stiring controversy in my country) in Puerto Rico, in a love triangle with young, Apolo-like boys that are wrestling in splashing and squirting sea shoal, and everything is blinded by sun and bathed in opulent lust, them fighting over her, but in Lana's case, she pushes into fight whole army of ardent greek gods, and the spectacle turns into homo, hetero and pansexual orgy of carved, sweaty, oily and wet bronze bodies in the golden and diamond flashlight of tropical paradise. I'm not saying the video should look like theirs, I just have that kind of vision of midsummer eyecandies, plot tension and pulsating voluptuousness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIjlyZyqnaw
  11. Disco & Get Drunk, with their tenebrous, panther-like moaning, are the twin peaks of her opus (in my own private sanctuary).
  12. I knew all of Plath (I've been hanging out with Sylvia for almost a decade longer than with Lanz) But it's easy, those image close-ups help revealing much to connoisseurs of both.
  13. How do I rename the title of my fan art topic according to the newest downloaded covers? I would like to temporary name "Lana Pandemonium" to "Lana Pandemonium - Music To Watch Boys To". Thanks.

  17. Oh, I forgot Velvet Underground, dark, experimental and subversive in the midst of glee sixties, singing about pain, fetishes, perversity and addiction in a way Lana could carry it out perfectly. Not to mention her icon status can almost already be compared to the one of Nico, but although Lana often shows her vulnerable side and Nico was aloof ice queen (tropical vs. teutonic), Lana can also act as detached femme fatale on her frosty throne. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjjDmX9Tkss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwzaifhSw2c Nico, My Funny Valentine (or anybody else's): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvE9WRM86Hs (comments section: "my tranny valentine" ) - her voice is strange and even repulsive and eerie to many, but she was deaf to one ear and had that unique grave german accent and masculine austerity of vocals Lana, in contrast, sounds like summer zephyr and her interpretation would probably be angelic And Portishead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qQyUi4zfDs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJqem6ek4CI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoI08LdWQwQ (has a touch of Bond themes) This is magical and mesmerizing (This Mortal Coil: Song to the Siren): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFWKJ2FUiAQ

  20. I think "National Anthem" is generic, annoying piece of pop-ish song, and the first, faster version is much more fresh and positively mischievous; I don't like the hymnic tone of the BTD version and its simplificated, flat chorus. It is, actually, the only song of hers that I'm not fond of. Also, "Flipside" is overly underestimated: it has grungy, chamber charm and haunting, echoing intro and end with provoking hurting question, very deep and intimate. I prefer that ninety, lo-fi, rough and raw sound over psychedelic grandeur of "Cruel World", more close to the pieces like "Get Drunk", but with added guitar growling, like its elaborated, inflamed extension. Plus, "Off To The Races" is the best gem on BTD, most complex, charged with multiple emotional layers and lyrically excellent, with her versatile voice covering all isohypses and isobars of emotional experience. Paradise "Yayo" is much weaker, cause it lacks the crucial part of the bridge, echoing "...dark night..." in the distance (this is for me the climax part), and her voice is much more insecure and unnecessary shivering and roaming, tracing invisible ornamental additions and ruining strong, effortlessly soft flowing spine of the melody of the original. The first version kicks ass.
