This is exciting. Recordings completed spontaneously/improvised in a single sitting are usually the best. She must be really inspired.

Hyde says, “I can’t really tell what she was working on. That’s still a secret thing.”

So i think its not necessarily a "secret project" she's working on, I think they just meant that they dont know what she;s working on yet

Reading the article it sounds like Lana just liked the studio so she came back to record some songs for fun. Maybe it's "secret" because she doesn't know yet what she will do with these songs. The instruments used don't sound like country.

OMFG!! "lana made use of the free singing technique in the new songs. As she sang, a producer wrote for her(wht she was saying) She didn't have anything ready"

Muscle Shoals Sound called in local keyboardist Will Allison to record with Del Rey. Allison accompanied the “Summertime Sadness” and “West Coast” singer on Hammond B-3 organ and the studio’s baby-grand piano, the same piano the original demo for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” was cut on. “She sang and Will wrote the music as she sang,” Hyde says, “and they were a great pair.” Audio engineers Chase Brandon and Colin Lott recorded the sessions.

Also Lana again intentionally choosing a low quality mic

true but it’s clear lana went out and sought producers that were especially talented in one genre. lana had a genre set for uv and she sought dan who delivered amazing songs with the sound she was looking for. as for hm, can’t say much since we dont know a whole lot about the hm demos with other producers, but when she decided that she was gonna have this cinematic sound for hm, she made sure rick delivered that. and for chemtrails, lana told us herself that it was going to be a folk album and that was the sound she was going for. (literally since 2018 her and jack have been making folk/country songs so its obvious as to why she wanted solely jack to produce the folk album). the point is it really wouldn’t have mattered who produced her albums. for her albums she has a general sound in mind and she finds producers who can produce what she wants. (and TRUST if she knew who drew was and what he was capable of during hm sessions, 100% they would’ve done something together)

"Lana Del Rey recorded 3 or 4 songs for a secret project, reveals Ana Megan Hyde, manager of "Muscle Shoals Road' Studio"

Weird that you say that because the melody of fingertips to me is one of the most memorable from Tunnel and the other day I was so shocked when I was singing the song that I remember the entire vocal line and lyrics without any issues. Fascinating how people view music differently and another example of Lana’s genuis

If there’s anything I’ve learned in my 12 years of being a fan, it’s that you can’t always tell what an album is going to be like with Lana before it’s released. Especially in these early stages - people have been preemptively shitting on certain genres for the last 3 album cycles and she’s always pulled through with sonic and lyrical surprises.

And also Venice Bitch, Cinnamon Girl, The Greatest, Dark but Just a Game, CHEMTRAILS (my love)… so many good examples

Also his work on Violet and JS interlude, which is pretty experimental, is impeccable

I didn't mean it in a bad way

I've always wanted a Lana album with that musical style!

Jumping in on Jack: I think he likes working with her because she’s the one artist that wouldn’t be opposed to experimenting- A&W is a perfect example of both of them unleashing their creative freedom. With Taylor he couldn’t do this

Still kinda funny that so many people know Lana for being Americana but yet they don’t want a country album - easily the most Americana genre

the whole jack thing is so stupid because its not even his fault that the music he produces isn’t up to your standards.. like remember that LANA IS AN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER. jack is capable of creating anything and making it good (a&w among other songs for example), but ultimately it’s lana’s decision on what she wants her songs to sound like, even if it means it’s completely stripped (pink champagne and lmlylaw). shit on me all you want for saying this but there is truth to what i said

I saw Colin Lott’s Instagram post and he says “grateful for the collaboration”. He’s a Grammy winning audio engineer and bass player.
