blackenedrussianpoetry liked a post in a topic by graham4anything in Lana the observer, as documentary creator
Symetrical
What we know now, what was not known then
I find it amazing that Lana was documenting the horrors of fame from Day 1
A quartet of songs some needing to see the video, some inherent in their lyrics
Video Games
Gods & Monsters
High By the Beach
13 Beaches
and how fame rapes and abuses young women, aspiring entertainers and rears its ugly head to ruin ones life in a never ending cycle
where one cannot get away
and where the paparazzi is the devil in disguise and how they abuse and manipulate so that a point of view making the person they
are shooting look the worst they possibly can
The video of "Video Games" which to all extent and purpose it is know that Lana herself created and edited herself long prior to her
later success (and the surprise to her that anyone would actually see it) where paparazzi footage of Ms. de la Huerta was used, and in perfect symmetry the trial of the (for legal purposes) alleged perv power serial abuser H.W. just yesterday leading to the arrest and the being booked of Harv. (entering the court room
with the paparazzi in full force showing the image HW tried to show (the old man routine carrying what appeared to be a bible
and some books??? that is laughable being that Cosby attempted at one point to do the exact same thing)
Being that Lana herself made the video way at the start, when she had zero way of knowing anyone would see it shows a keen
sense of a historical documentary creator. Observing, using what is observed, and not exploiting, but showing how the paparazzi are the ones using and exploiting to show a person at their worst, solely to take a picture that they instantly hawk
Which aligns her once again with the late singer songwriter Harry Chapin, who started out his career making documentaries one of which was nominated for an Academy Award.
One can imagine in both cases that had they not ventured into poems, lyrics, music, and the record industry, that they both could have
risen in the ranks of movie documentary and feature film creations.(which it appears more and more Chuck is aiming to do and doing it well,
as so important was Chuck's Honeymoon cover & shots, and the shot of the boat and deck coming into play in High By the Beach
(where Lana at the start of the song (that we later know is a helicopter) almost appears to be drowing and breathing underwater
and how in concert, the perfect usage of the camera and really needing to watch the screens and get oneself away from their phone
and watch the creation of 13 Beaches come to life through the screenwork, which was to me totally innovative. (and only working seeing it live over and over and over again on tour (where it was much easier to see from the seats and away from that dreaded first row).
and being that Coachella uses much of the same (including the drum) of Video games, and being that Coachella is the song that directly shatters what came before to what comes next...

blackenedrussianpoetry liked a post in a topic by WhiteHydrangea in The Source Family, Ultraviolence & Lana Del Rey
There are also many excellent articles on Jim Baker, Father Yod and the Family available online. While I will be linking some of them here as references, I will mostly be focusing on the Family and their own personal interpretations of what was going on during the time they were active as I believe this is where Lana gathered most of her inspiration from. There are a lot of negative articles written about what actually was going on behind closed doors at the Family homes and while I'm sure some may be accurate, and will lend support to some theories, the writers of the articles were not a part of the Family and did not experience first hand what went on. While most former Family members do have criticism toward Jim Baker, the man, they speak very highly of Father Yod as their Earthly Spiritual Father, enough so that I don't doubt they would embellish. I recommend reading all evidence and articles with a grain of salt as all of it is personal anecdotes and there is no solid facts to back up any claims made.
I encourage every member of Lana Boards to dig in and discover any other pieces of evidence you may find regarding this topic. I will add to this post as new evidence is found with credit to the finder!
Here is the original post that I made in the Ultraviolence lyrics thread so please have a look at that for an idea of what started all of this:
http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/4684-ultraviolence/?p=198053
So hopefully now you have an idea of the Family, we'll jump into the evidence we have. Some of it will be stuff that I and other users have already posted on the UV thread, some will be new. Please note, this section will be updated as more info is discovered.
The Source Family and their Influence on Ultraviolence
General Evidence
Lyrical Evidence
While I believe some songs on UV are inspired by the Source Family, I don't think that all songs were inspired by them. So you won't see Old Money on this list for example, as it is clearly written for the Great Gatsby, inspired by the character of Daisy and written as an epilogue to Lana's Young and Beautiful.
I also believe Lana is inspired from many different things and she weaves them into her own story, either by becoming who she is writing about or imagining herself in a similar situation. She has said before that is in the habit of writing about several things in a song and tying them all together. For example, Video Games being about two different men, etc. So while some lyrics fit the Source theory, others will not as they are probably influenced either by her life or something else.
Cruel World
Ultraviolence
Shades of Cool
Brooklyn Baby
Aesthetic Evidence
This section is about the pictures used for Ultraviolence vs pictures from The Source Family Archives as well as the soundscape Dan Auerbach and Lana came up with. Lana had stated that her new take on the UV album was "Unlistenable" with many different sounds, tempo changes, etc. Some of the Ya Ho Wha recordings sound very similar to how Lana re-did UV with the layered sounds, experimental vocals and tempo changes.
Sound
Visuals
As I stated above I will continue updating this post with more evidence as I find it. Please feel free to post any similarities you might find and I will happily add it with credit to you!
Congratulations, your theory has been proved correct! Well, something at least a little bit

Reminds me of The Source Family/Father Yod’s cult: a charismatic leader founds a commune in LA in the early 70s based on natural food, spiritual practices and psychedelic rock. Seems like the concept younger Lana herself would subscribe to. The history of these two cults- it all goes back to Ultraviolence and Freak’s music video…
edit: after reading two articles about Morningland, I’m surprised to see a woman having a major control/handson w a occult community

I've only seen Lana Del Rey live in concert twice. Once during the Endless Summer Tour, and once during the L.A. to the Moon Tour; so I can only base my opinion of L.D.R.'s live shows on these two experiences. I must say that it was a disappointment to hear Lana singing over pre-recorded vocals, and I wish she would just get rid of them, I'd rather hear Lana's voice, even if it's not perfect and she makes mistakes. Having said that, for me, the great appeal of a Lana Del Rey show goes beyond just seeing her and hearing her voice, although this is the central feature. In my humble opinion, when I go to a Lana Del Rey show, I'm not just going to see some pop star, I'm going to some kind of modern day mystical ceremony or ritual. At that first show, Lana and Courtney Love were about an hour late, it was an open-air venue, and the show didn't begin until after nightfall, and I believe this was a deliberate part of the show. It is well known among esotericists that the human mind becomes more susceptible at night. Although the screaming fans at times hindered my ability to listen to Lana, I enjoyed being in the presence of that intense energy; this was also an integral part of the show. I realize that I am such a fan of L.D.R. that I lose my objectivity. This is just my humble opinion.

The cicadas in the sunset are your guide
The mystic path in eight stages:
1. Awakening
2. Purification
3. Illumination
4. Voices and visions
5. Contemplation and introversion
6. Ecstasy and rapture
7. The Dark Night of the Soul
8. Union
*If i’m not mistaken
Conquered me to think a lot of transcendetalism. Spiritualism is within Self/Soul to apprehend divinity through nature’s merit. For its Creation’s purity passed on from Self/Soul- one must seek its absolute good from it. Therein the truth lies.
Alabama in the springtime is heavenly
To always wish and to manifest the heavenly into the earthly- for a new life, the New Age or “a rosebud”.
Wish I could insert some picture directly. Anybody?
