Why do I have a bad feeling that Ultraviolence is not only a nod to A Clockwork Orange, but possibly a reference to her perception that she's been savaged by critics, had her privacy invaded by the media, her back catalog stolen by hackers, and current plans ruined by the leak of new material?

I was finally able to read this all for the first time. My head is kind of spinning.

God, this person wrote a lot and was very fiery. I don’t know that that sort of zeal can be faked. Or more specifically, when someone sounds that passionate about supposed events, chances are they’re not making things up, or at least not entirely. She is also almost neurotically specific and repetitive about locations and names. It sounds like a person who was, in some way, wronged or saw, firsthand, questionable behavior toward others that she is strongly opposed to, and wants the people responsible to be held accountable.

But then that weird, endless tirade about how music today is corrupting the youth, how the record industry should take responsibility for all problems in society, that they are mostly responsible for crime, pedophilia, rape, and violence against women, all the while using words like evil and so many CAPS. Dude......wut? I really wish people who make these sort of claims would realize that these things have been around since the beginning of humanity.

She sounds like someone who's a little "off." Which i hate to say because if she and others really were sexually and mentally abused, there’s nothing worse than dismissing a person as hysterical and discrediting their account. Plus, trauma can make people sound crazy    Even just her writing style and the way she is so incredibly repetitive comes off as someone who has had trauma. Also, based on her language, it seems she had already done a good amount of talking to lawyers.

The comments under hers piss me off so much, and are so typical of the lowest lows of the internet. I love when people get angry at someone with a mental illness (if she is indeed mentally ill), and call them a BITCH. Ugh, i hate people. One single person (the last comment) responded in a civil manner and refrained entirely from insults.
If this stuff really did happen, i really hope that she and others are okay and that the guilty parties are dealt with accordingly. I don't know, i feel like something probably happened here. Why put so much energy into accusing specific people? Those people must have done something, but the question is what exactly and how severe was it.

Very puzzling piece of the puzzle. My head hurts and i feel depressed now.

I found a bunch of old Lake Placid News (LPN), Adirondack Daily Express (ADE), Plattsburgh Press-Rebulican (PPR) articles archived as black and white PDF scans that mention Lizzy, some with photos of her:

Here's a rundown of the rest of the references:

    Involvement in Sports
Skiing. "Lately, the students of St. Agnes School have accomplished a lot out of school. Many SAS students particpated recently in some exciting ski races: NYSEF World Cup race for JV (ages 7-10). Placings are as follows... Elizabeth Grant 20th". January 25, 1995 LPN Sports page box score showing her run time and placing ("8. Elizabeth Grant   44.33") in the Ed Damp Junior V World Cup. March 12, 1996 PPR
"The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) held its annual family race and picnic for participants in the.series last Saturday, at which time the final standings were released... Elizabeth Grant (259)... Completed the top 10." March 23, 1996 ADE
Skating. "The following scholarships have been awarded by the Skating Club of Lake Placid to the skaters named below... $50 scholarships for ice or lessons... Elizabeth Grant." There are also many articles that list her on the honor roll:
Grade 7, High Honors. January 9, 1998 LPN  February 13, 1998 LPN  March 27, 1998 LPN  March 27, 1998 ADE  March 30, 1998 PPR  May 29, 1998 ADE  June 9, 1998 ADE  June 19, 1998 LPN  July 31, 1998 PPR Grade 8, Honors. March 5, 1999 LPN  March 8, 1999 ADE  March 12, 1999 LPN  May 7, 1999 LPN Grade 8, High Honors. June 18, 1999 LPN  July 20, 1999  July 23, 1999 LPN Grade 9, Honors. December 24, 1999 LPN  December 31, 1999 LPN  January 28, 2000 LPN This establishes pretty well that she started 9th grade in the fall of 1999. Unless you skip a grade, kids are 14 or 15 when they begin 9th grade (or at least turn 14 shortly after it begins). If Lizzy was really born in 1986 as she claims, she would have just turned 13 the summer before.

    Family Members

There's also a lot of articles mentioning other members of her family. I didn't spend a ton of time looking at those, but they appear to be mostly about her parents' efforts to organize opposition to a development project (Lake Placid does really remind me of Twin Peaks sometimes) for classic NIMBY reasons, her dad's real estate listings, and Chuck and Charlie's sports exploits (including a huge fish she caught).

However, this article describes in greater detail her dad's furniture company mentioned in that Domain Name Journal profile on him and this article gives more background on her family's ownership of "God Bless America" singer Kate Smith's home-- which Lizzy mentioned in this article and was the inspiration for the original title of AKA-- and their attempts to sell it at a large profit rather than an affordable price for the Kate Smith/God Bless America Foundation who wanted to turn it into a museum.

  9. HeartshapedChevrolet liked a post in a topic by lola in Bob Leone talks about Lana, Gaga & "So Legit"
"He helped transform her from a painfully shy teenager to a world superstar – and as Lady Gaga prepares to launch new album Artpop, he should be basking in glory.
But instead, music manager Bob Leone, who also set Lana Del Rey on her path to fame, is broke and homeless, forced to move back in with his frail 88-year-old mother.
He claims that Gaga, 27, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, left him ruined – failing to reward him after he helped land her first major record deal.
And he says his grievances against the flamboyant New York-born singer has been taken up by Del Rey, who has blasted Gaga in a string of sharp-tongued lyrics.
The jibes, which appear in the  lyrics of her new song So Legit, include: ‘Stefani, you suck, I know you’re selling 20 million. Wish they could have seen you when we booed you off in Williamsburg.’
Leone says the lyrics reflect Lana’s fury at the way Gaga and her father Joe failed to reward him.
‘She was very upset at the way I had been treated,’ he said. ‘We’ve spoken about it. She feels it wasn’t right.’
Leone, 64, discovered Gaga at the Triad Theatre, Manhattan, in 2000, when he was National Project Director at the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The young Stefani, then just 14, attended several of his songwriting workshops.
He said: ‘She was painfully shy back then. When she came to one of my open mic sessions with her mother, she’d just look at the floor and her feet.
‘I went over to her and said, “Stefani, I know why you feel intimidated, as everyone is older in here, but promise me when you come back next week, I want you to get up on stage and hear what you got.”
‘And she did. That’s when I knew that she was going to be a superstar. Although I never knew she would be this popular and more recognisable than Obama and Oprah.

‘I asked when she was only 17, “What do you want as a creative  person, to be known for great songwriting?” She looked me in the eye and without hesitation said, “I want world domination.’”
At the time, Leone held showcases at a Manhattan venue, inviting acts from across the US to perform in front of top record company bosses. He put his young starlet Stefani on the bill in front of record executive Wendy Starland.
Impressed, Starland was keen to pair Stefani with Rob Fusari, who went on to co-produce Gaga’s debut album The Fame. The pair recorded a demo and Stefani signed a record deal just months later in September 2006. It was at this point that Leone stopped playing an active role in  her career.
But he claims promises made just before this major breakthrough, in the six months when he was officially working as Gaga’s manager, were never kept, mainly due to the involvement of her father, Joe.
Leone said: ‘She [Gaga] said to  her dad he could be her business manager, but she wanted me as her manager as she wanted to sign with a major label.
‘I was happy to then stand aside, glad I could help, but Joe never forgave me for being her manager.
‘He despised me for accepting the offer to manage her. When I asked for a contract, he constantly came up with excuses why not, which went on for a couple of months, but he said, “I give you my word, you’ve been into my house, when you get her the major record deal, you will be fairly compensated.”
‘That never happened... I was just tossed aside.
‘I love Stefani, I miss Stefani. I grieved for her when she became Lady Gaga. She literally transformed into a different human being. I grieved for years.’
Leone’s row with Gaga’s father reignited in 2010 when, struggling for cash, he decided to auction off a collection of unreleased CDs and recordings that the pair had made when she was a teenager. Within hours her legal team had quashed the release and threatened Leone. ‘Some of this music dated back to when she was 15. I thought it was maybe worth a lot. But as soon as it was made public, their lawyer called me.
‘He called me four times with ridiculous threats about copyright infringement and violating propriety rights of her name.
‘It was David versus Goliath and I accepted a settlement of $10,000 dollars. $1,000 of that went to my lawyer, $3,000 to the auction house, so I was left with $6,000.’
Now broke, Leone reveals he may one day be forced to sell the only letter he has from Gaga in a bid to raise more cash after leaving his Manhattan home.
‘I lived there for 31 years, but it got to point where I couldn’t afford it, my savings had disappeared  and I had no choice but to move back to be with my mother. I live on a  disability cheque and that’s it. I found Gaga but I haven’t got a penny from her.’ Despite his predicament and his grievances with Lady Gaga, Leone holds no grudges against Lana Del Rey, despite not receiving any financial reward for her success.
He says this is because he was only Del Rey’s mentor and never acted as her manager,
Leone believes her father’s personality had a marked impact on Lady Gaga.
He said: ‘She says she did it [seek fame] for world domination and to be more famous than anyone else, but I think the reason she wanted that was to get her father’s approval.’
A spokesman for Lady Gaga declined to comment."

although tbh Did anyone ever consider the shiny toy guns lead singer (the one she was supposedly "in" with, as a "local rockstar" who she could possibly be referring to in songs, i think it's to interesting to discredit completley, Mikey had a cocaine addicition, idk just interesrting to think about alternative boyfriends we may have ever even heard about

I'm not sure about Bel air, firstly, it implicates him being rich. Barrie dosen't seem very rich to me (gargoyles standing at your front gate) and the part about running like mad to heavens doors, seems to make me think it's about K (she wants to see him, to die like in dark paradise and be with him, she cant wait any longer) and i seem to think the "i wont be bad i wont cheat you no more" is in reference to the relationships she has had after K and as K was "her one true love" she feels as if the relationships she has had after K was almost like cheating on him, as she made it clear she didnt want to move on in dark paradise and that true love lasts forever blah blah blah

Also I believe that You&Me is about the same person that You can be the boss Daddy is about.. "got a light in your eyes i can see it" "a fire in your eyes no i saw it" I believe that many of her songs reference K despite who their supposed to be about, K definatley has ties to the beach, and Lana's time with K was heavily influenced by drugs.. Methamphetamines referencing the beach and cony island, as well as taking into account the title and the trippy "drugged up" feeling to the song

I think K has all the ties with the beach, while I believe her time with Jimmy was more so by the poolside "vulgar darling glistening by the swimming pool"

Also I think It is very possible for K to have had tatoos, being a drug dealer with possible mafia ties should mean he has atleast had jail time before, and jail time usually indicates a time when people get tattoos, as it's not uncommon for mafia/drug dealers to bd covered, Lana obviously has a thing for tattoos, so i find it unlikely she would date solely one guy with them,

Also doubt Jimmy could afford Lana Diamonds, while she was dating Jimmy she supposedly was go-go dancing and in and out of rehab, during that time, it's also speculated she met Jimmy in rehab, there wouldn't be much spare cash lying around, while K on the other hand comes across as a rich old drug dealer who will do anything for his baby doll..

I think You and me talks about her and K and there good memories together, how he made her feel and there love for one another, but the demise of the relationship, and this is either because of 1) K's age and deterioration 2) their drugs problems, the "try hard to remember.." means that there forgetting again maybe because K can't remember, doesn't care or everything is to hazy a drug filled which seems most likely

It sounds like a song she would be singing to him on his deathbed, how much she loved there relationship, how he should try hard to remember it and how inspired and in love he made her feel, but how draining and sick that the drugs made her and him and the toll that it took, that he should give heaven a try and rest because now that she's is leaving him coz "shes in love with a dying man" it's just him and the sun.

i think this song makes it clear that she still loves him and wants him to be happy but cannot deal? anymore.. idk

"Mike Hadreas, also known as Perfume Genius is a singer/songwriter from Seattle, Washington, US. Perfume Genius began when he moved from New York to his mother’s home in Everett, WA. In these relatively isolated conditions, Hadreas felt a compulsion to make music and began composing fragile yet brutally honest songs on the piano. By 2008 he had set up a MySpace page and began offering his music there, along with similarly spare and evocative homemade music videos. Turnstile released the single Mr. Peterson — the tale of a suicidal, pedophile high-school teacher — in 2009. Perfume Genius’ full-length debut, Learning, which presented its tracks in the order in which they were recorded, arrived and released on June 21, 2010."

In honor of LanaBoards' 1-year anniversary this week, I thought I would share some of my sleuthing tips and tricks. Please contribute your own sleuthing tips in this thread.

    Google Is Your Friend
You can force Google's search engine to return only results that include or exclude specific phrases by enclosing them in quotation marks and prepending a plus or minus sign respectively. For example, if you wanted to search for information on the song "Paradise" you might use something like the following search in an attempt to weed out results talking about Paradise Edition or "Dark Paradise":
+"lana del rey" +"paradise" -"paradise edition" -"dark paradise" You can restrict your search to a particular site by including site:URL in your search query where URL is the URL of the particular site to search. For example, if you wanted to find every mention of Lana Del Rey on Hipster Runoff you might try this search:
site:hipsterrunoff.com +"lana del rey" You can also restrict your search to particular types of files by including filetype:EXT in your search query where EXT is the file extension type to search for. In fact, in trying to come up with a good example for this post, I stumbled across a PDF scan of a 2008 article on Lizzy Grant that appeared in the Lake Placid News using the following search:
filetype:pdf +"lizzy grant" Probably the most powerful and necessary Google search feature for Lana sleuths is the ability to do custom date range searches. If you're looking for information from before her rise to fame, it is absolutely essential. I'll often date restrict searches to results before January 1, 2011 or something like that. You'll still get more recent results from pages that were created before that date, but have now changed or pull current data into sidebars, etc., but you'll still weed out a lot of results you don't care about by doing this. After performing a search, you can date restrict the results by clicking on 'Search tools' and selecting 'Custom range...' in the 'Any time' dropdown menu. You can leave either the 'From' or 'To' fields blank if you wish. Reverse image searching is another incredibly powerful feature Google provides. Enter the URL of an image you wish too search for and click 'search by image' and Google will find similar images. You can often find a higher resolution version of an image or find where the image originally came from this way. Try searching on variants of her name (i.e. lizzy grant, lizzie grant, lana del rey, lana del ray, etc.) appropriate to the era you're investigating. CalendarGirl originally found the live video of the rock version of "Yayo" here searching on "lizzie grant" instead of "lizzy grant" after I mentioned this to her. (Note: you may want to include -"entourage" in your search query if searching on "lizzie grant".) If you don't know what to look for, try looking for something known. If I recall correctly, I believe I originally found the Nefarious Bovine Radio podcasts with a search query that included +"pawn shop blues" and +"mp3" in the hopes that matching results might also include Lana songs I didn't already know about. Sometimes you get lucky.
    Archive.org Is Your Friend
The Wayback Machine at archive.org is an archive of snapshots taken of many web pages in the past. This is an incredibly useful tool since many sources of information about Lizzy's early career are not on the live web anymore for one reason or another, but can still be found on archive.org. There's a lot of information we wouldn't have without it. Familiarize yourself with it. It's indispensable. In addition to using archive.org to look at particular web sites, you can also see all the files ever archived under a particular web directory by appending an asterisk at the end. This is how I was able to find the performance photos taken by NBR that Television Heaven posted before he even said where they came from. Since I recognized the NBR logo, I went to archive.org and typed nbr.rathpa.net/* into the Wayback Machine and filtered the results by jpg to look for images. Since many of the files were named by date, it was easy to find them since I already knew the dates of the performances. The asterisk trick can also be very helpful in exploring the current site architecture of a page on the live web if it has been recently archived. Checking if a page has been archived often appears to trigger the Wayback Machine to archive unarchived pages, so if you stumble across something interesting, it's wise to check if the page is archived in the hopes that the Wayback Machine will archive it if it hasn't already so that it doesn't disappear forever. (BTW, I'm unaware of any way to keyword search Wayback Machine archives. If anyone knows of a way, please let me know.)

    Screenshots.com Is Your Friend
When archive.org doesn't have any snapshots of a site from the time period you'd like, sometimes screenshots.com will help you out. Unlike archive.org, screenshots.com does not archive the files making up the web site, but merely takes a screenshot image of it. Sometimes this is desirable since it avoids the common problem of missing image files when viewing archive.org snapshots. But screenshots.com only takes full screen screenshots, not full page screenshots. Another severe limitation is that it only captures second-level domain names. In other words, home pages but nothing under them. For example, screenshots.com has screenshots of myspace.com, but not myspace.com/lizzygrant. Thankfully, it does capture redirects from second-level domains. We still have a lot of snapshots of Lizzy's MySpace page because she owned several domain names that redirected to it.

    Various Exploits
Pay attention to the URLs for images. If the filename ends with a number that could be a pixel dimension, it may have been sized down. Try the URL without the pixel dimension number at the end. Sometimes this will yield the original image in its original dimensions. Otherwise, if the filename ends with a number, try adjacent numbers (especially if there are multiples photos close in number but with numbers skipped). You may find additional photos that have been uploaded to the server but not displayed on the page. Flickr allows users to disable downloading of photos. However, you can get around this easily by viewing the page source and looking for the image's URL in the HTML. (You can also get around this using any tool that shows your network traffic like Chrome Developer Tools as described below.) Occasionally a Flash slideshow will read an XML file containing the URLs of the images it plays. It may be worth extracting the URL of the SWF file by viewing the page source and examining the results of running it through a free online Flash decompiler like showmycode.com in order to discover details like this. If it's a Javascript slideshow, the URLs can probably found directly in the page source code. (In both situations, you can also likely using any tool that shows your network traffic like Chrome Developer Tools as described below.) As a Lana fan, it can be a common occurrence to find yourself frustrated by privatized YouTube videos. Although I know of no way to view a privatized video, it is possible to obtain several stills from one using the following URLs where VIDEO_ID is the YouTube ID of the video:
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/0.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/1.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/2.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/3.jpgFor example, consider the YouTube video at the following URL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPBUp9xZr_EThe following URLs display stills from this YouTube video:
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/rPBUp9xZr_E/0.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/rPBUp9xZr_E/1.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/rPBUp9xZr_E/2.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/rPBUp9xZr_E/3.jpg You can also use the Google YouTube API to get information about a privatized video by entering the following URL:
http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/VIDEO_ID?version=1For example, using the same video as before, entering the following URL tells us the title is "Lana Del Rey! Pin Up Galore" and that the length is 1:06:
http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/rPBUp9xZr_E?version=1You can try different versions of the API in case they display more information. The current version of the API is 3. Google's Chrome web browser has an incredibly powerful and flexible built-in feature (the Network tab in the Developer Tools window) that you can harness to download the actual audio or video files that stream from many sites including Soundcloud, Bandcamp, and Reverbnation just to name a few. (In fact, no one should ever have to ask anyone on this forum for a rip of a Soundcloud file ever again since I teach you here how to download the file directly from Soundcloud yourself. One exception: I discovered this method after the Soundcloud account I found "Prom Song (Gone Wrong)" on was taken down so if anyone downloaded it using this method I'd appreciate it if you would send a link my way.) Select the tab in which the page with streaming content is loaded. In Chrome's menu, click Tools -> Developer tools. The Developer Tools window should appear. Click the Network tab at the top of the Developer Tools window. Begin playback of the audio or video. The Network tab should populate with filenames of the files your browser is downloading. Hopefully the audio or video file streamed will be among them. It is easier to pick out if you sort by Type or Size. If the streaming file began loading before the Developer Tools window was opened, you may have to refresh the page and restart the audio or video. Once you have identified the filename, right click and open the link in a new tab. In the new tab, you should be able to right click and select "Save as...". This method does not work on sites like MySpace that do not directly stream a file and use Flash or some other technology to deliver content more securely. However, some such sites (unfortunately not MySpace) will directly stream files if Flash is disabled. To disable Flash in Chrome, open another tab and enter chrome colon slash slash plugins in the address bar (for some reason it won't display here if I type out the colon and slashes). One of the plugins listed should be Adobe Flash Player. Click the "Disable" link. (Remember to enable it later.) Now reload the page and restart the streaming media in the other tab. Some sites will also only directly stream files if you are using a device known to not support Flash such as an iPhone or iPad. Chrome also provides a way to fool web sites into thinking you are on such a device. Click on the gear icon in the bottom right hand corner of the Developer Tools window to bring up a Settings page for the Developer Tools window. Under settings, click Overrides. In the Overrides settings check the User Agent box and select "iPad — iOS5" in the dropdown. (Remember to change it back to the original setting later.) Now reload the page and restart the streaming media in the other tab.
Keep an Eye on the "Industry Players"
Many of Lana's songs, including several found by me, surfaced because they were publicly posted-- intentionally or not-- by Lana's producers or management:
"Prom Song (Gone Wrong)" was posted on a now (probably inadvertently) public Soundcloud account for Three Six Zero Productions (account now defunct) on which the "National Anthem (Nexus demo)" and "Driving In Cars With Boys" had also been posted. (Was this the original source of those songs? I don't know.) "Stoplight De-lite" and the studio version of "Motel 6" were intentionally posted by Jeff Peretz on his website. (A little over a month earlier, I discovered he had produced Lizzy Grant doing a Google search.) Though it has not been removed, the alternate version of "Hit & Run" was posted on Soundcloud by producer Tommy Tysper. (I followed clues from a screenshot of an old post on Lizzy's personal Facebook by another producer he often works with that mentioned "Tommy".) The "Ride" string arrangement was posted on Soundcloud by Daniel Heath. And of course, the Y&B demo, JFK, "Starry-Eyed", "Hollywood", IDWG, "Black Beauty" & AFFA were all infamously posted by Rick Nowels in inadvertently public directories his website. (I discovered those directories back in April looking at the URLs of the files streaming on his site using the Chrome Developer Tools trick.) And those are just the ones I found on producers' websites or Soundcloud accounts. "Dangerous Girl" was also posted on Soundcloud by Daft Dog, Blockhead posted "Heavy Hitter" on his blog, Princess Superstar posted alternate versions of "Maha Maha" & "Golden Grill", and Ben Mawson himself posted demos of TIWMUG, BTD, NA & "Lolita" on his (probably inadvertently) public Soundcloud account. And there have probably been other songs that originally surfaced in a similar manner.

    Contacting People
Sometimes in the course of sleuthing you may find it necessary to contact someone. I recommend following these suggestions:
Think twice before contacting anyone. Always keep in mind that you may be imposing on people by asking them questions about Lana. Be polite. People are doing you a favor just by entertaining your questions, let alone if they answer any of them. Return the favor by being polite. Use flattery. People are more receptive to you if you show an interest in them or their work. However, try to be genuine. Whenever I contact another artist about Lana I make a point of reading or listening to their work until I find something I genuinely like that I can compliment them on. Sometimes following these tips can yield unexpected results. Respect people's privacy. You shouldn't pry into anything personal. Let them decide if they want to volunteer anything. Avoid contacting romantic interests. Respect people's privacy, especially if they are not a public figure like Lana. If you do find the need to contact someone you know or even suspect might have been involved with Lana, avoid asking questions about their relationship.
    Pay Attention
I've had my share of luck as well, but a lot of sleuthing comes down to noticing details, making connections, and following up on things.

    Good luck and happy sleuthing!

Aw, that's so true though. Her earlier style was so Jewel. Her yearbook quote "And when you cry, I'll be right there telling you you were never anything less than beautiful" is a quote from Jewel's song "Angel Standing By"

It's kind of crazy how her style changed. I remember that quote (can't remember where) from one of her old friends where she said one day Lizzy was trying a folk/ almost Joni Mitchell sound and then the next thing she knew she had cut her hair short and had an entirely new sound/aesthetic.  And Emily Raw had subtitled a video of Lizzy on her Myspace with "In one year she's gone from folk ingenue to mod pinup. Can't wait to see where she'll take herself next."  I think it's cool to see that progression. I do wish she'd still play though
