So I'm finally posting my opinions about the songs on their new album. I know it's late, and I'm a flop fan but honestly what's new? Flowers - Upon first listen, I was SHOOK by those high vocals! A bop! Scary Love - still love this song. Another bop! Love the heavy beats, and the chorus is incredibly catchy. An earworm, for sure! Nervous - At first I wasn't sure what to think, but as the song went on I realized how amazing the song is. It's downtempo and quite chill, but I think that's exactly why I like it. The chorus is also really memorable. Had it stuck in my head after one listen! Void - is this, like, their best song ever??? Idk but it's definitely right up there as one of their best, IMO! Production is AMAZING. Wish the vocals were slightly clearer (less muffled), though. Softcore - love the synths and the production is interesting but it's a bit messy, and something just seems a bit odd and not put together with this song and I can't quite explain it. Kinda sounds just like a lotta noise (nice noise but still just noise). Maybe the more I listen to it, the more it will make sense to me. Blue - not a bad song but also not my fave song. Marina's Blue is better, that's the tea Sadderdaze - loved this song since it was on the first EP. Still a fave of mine, love it. The strings are stunning and majestic and beautiful and I love them. More strings next album please Xx Revenge - Nice song but kinda forgettable You Get Me So High - Not a huge fan of drug-related songs but a good song (I know, why am I a Lana stan then?? ). lowkey a bop tho Reflections - the only acceptable comment for this song: Too Serious - A beautiful song. Love the emotion in it. Production is also cute. Reminds me of unreleased Lana songs, for some reason? Stuck with Me - wouldn't have thought they'd pick this song for the album out of all the EP songs, but honestly it kinda works well as the ending song. Overall, I really like the album. Still undecided where it ranks amongst their other albums though.

I know Björk's white, but racism can be applied to any race. Yes, generally speaking in Western cultures, systemic racism only exists towards people of colour, and white people are privileged for their skin colour. But racism on a smaller scale can still apply to someone from a "white" culture, like that of Iceland. The fact is, people were insulting Björk on the basis of her ethnicity, language and culture, calling Icelandic a "caveman language" and thus insinuating that she is some kind of subhuman ("caveman") or less evolved/developed person as a result of her background and her accent. That is a form of covert racism, whether you want to believe it or not. Again, you can hold your own personal beliefs about whether you think her music is good or not. I don't really care. The problem with the post was that people were mocking her language and her accent, which is never okay. I also don't see why my comment was conflated with social justice or political ideology. Racism should be pointed out and criticized by people of all political beliefs and social backgrounds because it is unacceptable in every way, shape and form - whether that is on a small scale like calling someone's language a "caveman language" or whether it is on a larger scale like police shootings against African American citizens. I'm surprised to see such racism being celebrated and laughed at on this thread. I thought Marina's fanbase was better than that.

what is this racist mess??? that "caveman" language is called Icelandic and it's actually an extremely intricate and poetic language if you spent time getting to know it. say what you want about Björk's music but insulting her ethnicity, culture and language is not a good look. clean up your act, thanks

Obvi the original is still the best but this is lowkey a banger

I'm honestly very confused by this video. All I can say is Scary Love is still a fucking bop and also WOW they're using COLOUR in their videos now! What a plot twist also still haven't listened to the album yet. #flopfan

Hope I'm not reaching here, but I really do feel that Lana and Marina are recording a song together. I mean, BOTH of them have worked with Rick Knowels before so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they wrote a song with him!!

I was listening to "Gold" in the car the other day on the way to buy some groceries and I have something to tell you all about this song that will ruin your life forever... In the second verse, where she says, "I've been waiting, Waiting for the penny to drop, to drop, to drop, to drop" It sounds so much like: "I've been waiting, Waiting for the PANTY to drop, to drop, to drop, to drop" I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that I'd misheard it. The problem is that now that I've heard it, I CAN'T UNHEAR IT!!

ooh so excited to listen! will share my thoughts once i've downloaded even though nobody probably cares

Y'all over there arguing about whether you want stems or outtakes... All I want is the album!

If you could politely eff off that would be wonderful, thank you Xxx

Wow... Precious Metals sounds fantastic. Melodrama 2.0 please!!

Years & Years just released their comeback single for their upcoming second album, called "Sanctify". I am really interested in this concept, but I feel like I need a bit of a clearer explanation to fully grasp the idea. Either way I love the song and I can't wait to see what else is in store!

I agree with what the user above commented. Personally I feel that MATD4 will focus on some or all of the following: Japanese imagery - her travels to Japan (multiple times!) show that she is definitely inspired by the beautiful country Ancient Greek imagery - she has posted a few Greek-related images following the FROOT era, plus it is her ancestry and she can speak the language Nature - this would flow well from FROOT and also fit well with the Japanese imagery, e.g. cherry blossoms, autumn trees Psychology - including ideas related to personality psychology, identity, appearance, since these are the sub-disciplinary areas she has posted a lot about online Politics - Marina has made some explicitly political statements on social media as of late, e.g. condemning UK PM, following the UK Green Party on Twitter, retweeting criticisms of Trump, etc., which could influence her outlook in her music Moving on from the past - finding enjoyment in life and being authentic, sort of like in the song, 'Happy' Self-care - this seemed to be a theme present in a lot of her MarinaBook posts & probably relates to her newfound love for Psychology which perhaps has taught her techniques to take care of yourself and be healthy Collaborations - her photo with Lana and Jack Antonoff as well as her documented co-writing collaborations Her love life - Marina has been in a stable relationship with her bf, Jack, for years now and I think this might translate into some sweet and genuine love songs (hopefully!) - for essentially the first time ever in her discography! Philosophy - Marina follows some philosophy pages online, plus she has already demonstrated her philosophical thinking in songs like Savages Sociology - social commentary would make a lot of sense in the current global political climate especially seeing as she lives in the UK where she has posted about sociopolitical issues occurring; plus she has written songs like Sex Yeah before which could be considered pieces of sociological thinking Essentially, I think Marina has done a lot of soul-searching while on her break from music. She's travelled, she's found love, she's been studying at university and discovering new interests like Psychology, flowers/nature, etc., and making a lot more political statements on social media and looking into philosophy too. I really think all of these things she's been focusing on will influence her music in some way or another.... Or she could just write a whole album about her cats

Wow this might actually just turn out to be their best album!!!

Mowgli's Road is THAT bop! I still lose my shit to it even after all these years. I mean, who the fuck thinks to put screeching monkeys, crazy "cuckoo" sounds, and a cacophony of clashing cutlery noises in a song?? Like, what kind of genius! And I still wonder how the fuck Marina pulled it off!

just you wait until Elle gets back. poor girl always having to clean up yo mess Elle cleaning: -
Honestly, Witness is probably my favorite album she's ever done. I know it was marketed the worst but it really has some great moments! I adore the songs: Witness, Russian Roulette, Chained to the Rhythm, Bigger Than Me, Dance With the Devil, Act My Age, Bon Appetite... I mean they're all pretty much either a bop or a genuine ballad, two of my fave types of songs!
-
welcome to the fandom. She's literally already in my top 20 highest played artists of all time (according to my last.fm account) and I've only been listening to her for a few months. Her music is so addictive and intelligent!

Honestly I think a huge part of the reason they're inactive is actually just because Marina has been doing nothing the last few years. It's hard to sustain a music forum when there is NO MUSIC being released, and we only have 3 albums to talk about. There's only so many things to talk about with 3 albums and no new content. Maybe once she finally moves on to MATD4 more people will move over there again because there'll actually be something fresh and new to discuss!
