I feel the same, i don't want to Lana become a pop stars like the others. From UV i started following her and fell in love with her unique style and if the direction of the record is what we have heard with Love, it'll be huge disappointment.

Due to my kid getting a bilateral ear infection, I finally got the chance today at work to listen to this properly without an infant squalling over it.

Space is what makes this song work, to the extent that it does. And I'm not talking about the galactic kind cars float through in the video. The entire strength of the song rests on the anticipation created by the sparseness of the arrangment-- lazily unnecessary and unnecessarily lazy Emile flourishes aside. (What the hell do the gun sounds have to do with anything?) For me, the highlight of the production is the brilliantly simple but effective use of that xylophone or chime sound or whatever accenting the first of each of those note pairs. But overall, the song is not particularly inspired (in Lana voice) lyrically, melodically, or structurally. I suspect the song title was truncated to dampen the obvious comparison to "Young & Beautiful" as it is not too surprisingly, given Rick's involvement, reminiscent of Nowels leaks-era production. I am surprised by how much, erm, love it's been getting from pop music critics typically cool to Lana. But maybe all it takes is production that mostly gets out of the way for people to appreciate the loveliness of her voice, however reverb-drenched.

As for the video, while I still don't think it completely works, it is the anti-Tropico. Like Elvis, Marilyn, and John Wayne in the garden of Eden, classic cars floating in space is the essence of Lana's aesthetic distilled, what with her love of things vintage, SpaceX and Tesla and all, but it's not as heavy-handed, and doesn't scream bloated budget (though it may have been) or self-indulgent as much as Tropico. (I think Tropico would have worked better as three distinct music videos.) And thank the heavens there's no fucking monologue on this celestial jukebox this time around.

As a first taste of the album, it's no "West Coast" or "Honeymoon". To be honest, I'm a bit concerned by her bringing a bigger pop producer on board in Benny Blanco and her comment that she made her previous albums for herself and this one is "for the fans". I don't at all hate it-- I'm just underwhelmed-- but I'm crossing my fingers "Love" is a bit of a head-fake the way HBTB was, because if this is going to be the direction of the entire album, this longtime fan would probably prefer she go back to making music for herself.

Honestly... if you want to see gays kissing then listen to an artist that writes music about gay experiences. Lana is (presumably) completely straight and sings about her experience with men so why would anyone expect a video of hers to be referencing a gay couple?
 
I know this video is about her fans and all, but the song has absolutely nothing to do with sexuality so I don't even know how these sorts of comments are relevant.
 
Just shut up and enjoy the video everyone and stop finding the most minuscule of things to complain about!

We had to sit through over a year of drought with Lana and now that she's finally back (and happier than ever) you guys complain about something so fckn stupid. Get over it - we do not have to be represented in EVERY SINGLE THING

I honestly think this is slightly delusional. I don't think the members of Lanaboards (or the messy twitter/instagram fans for that matter) are a very good representation of the average Lana fan. I think it's pretty clear that the majority of Lana's fans are straight girls and I even know plenty of straight guys that enjoy her music. It's true that many of her most passionate and obsessive fans are gay, but that goes for most female artists.

I LOVE seeing her smile. Some people have a natural radiant smile and Lana is one of them.

no. she tried a new style in the high by the beach mv that she hadnt done before (including that the video had nothing to do with the story) and it still turned out to be a great music video. 
for some reason i just dont feel as great about this one. thats all

The MV doesn't have to basically explain the song though, it's boring 
By this logic every song has to make sense through the MV 
 
MTWBT featured her watching boys, but also featured a load of scenes of chicks swimming and staring at eachother in a pool, so how was that the exploring the song through visuals?
 
HBTB was just her the whole time, even though she was talking about a guy through most of it, but no guy in the video, nor was she getting high even though that was basically the song
 
Just because the MV is as you see, an extension of exploring the song, doesn't mean it's therefore not able to be criticized, because overall it was still boring, the story element linking the song with young teens in love still didn't make it less boring, seeing it now it's easy to say /why/ she's doing it, but doesn't make it less uninteresting because there was a slight link to the song in doing it   
 
She can sing a song but still just have it be her in an MV 

The thing that really annoyed me the most is lana videos used to basically be all lana, but over the course of the honeymoon period to now, they add so many others shots that'd be so much better if they were just lana (ala freak those ugly chicks touching the hobo beard guy like sry not v interesting to me)
 
 
Like idk if i'm just weird and alone in it but the flying cars, being in town, walking over the moon mountains (or w/e the :)they are) the lake under the stars
All those scenes didn't have lana in them and I would've just prefered it if she was in them all, like for the lake one it could've literally been her swimming in the water, or walking over those mountains 

Her singing scenes basically just seemed like a framing device for other scenes that weren't even a proper story 

Like it's not terrible but eh would've prefered more lana 

im probably going to get skinned alive for supporting honeymoon on this site but like... i genuinely like the high by the beach video better than this
 
ive been a fan of lana since 2013 and it just doesnt feel like the same lana ive been listening to for three years
