My favorite music of Melanie’s is around the dollhouse era (including pre dollhouse and early crybaby songs and of course, dollhouse). The way she used childhood imagery to mask and intertwine darker topics didn’t restrict her like it does with trying to tell a specific story with crybaby (which isn’t bad but we missed out on some great songs because she wanted the album to have a storyline which is cute but, you know, comes with restrictions) and ESPECIALLY K-12 (which really restricted her because of the specific school theme, the crybaby storyline and what not). If anything it made some of her best, darkest, and most meaningful songs - at least for me. A million men, bombs on Monday, birthing addicts, bittersweet tragedy, sippy cup, soap, etc. There’s also a timelessness to those songs for me while latter cry baby songs (as in when the music videos were released just felt... tiring. I don’t know how else to describe it. Maybe it’s just not having to wait for the latter MVs, especially when she started taking control over most aspects like directing and story telling/writing and i think costume design - same goes for K-12). Anyway, she’s got talent, a lot of it. In short she just needs to stop putting herself in these boxes that restrict her time wise and music wise.
  4. looking at the entire masterpost...why is literally every alternate cover better than the standard...
  5. to this day i am still pissed about the family jewels and electra heart having the american track list and then the UK/European one being different. its really annoying when i wanna play the albums on vinyl but those particular songs (rootless, family jewels, LHC, BTS, living dead) are missing due to the different tracklists and them choosing to use the american tracklist. I wish she’d just do something like melanie releasing an EP for the deluxe songs on crybaby that didn’t make it to the vinyl LP. I mean the potential is there, especially for electra heart since we have EVOL, LHC, BTS, Living Dead, electra heart, just desserts... and random but i would love for her to release a 4 set vinyl collection using the archetypes videos tracklist (adding in songs like teen idle, valley of the dolls, and homewrecker which ALL by the way deserved videos) with each vinyl containing cover and content of a certain each of the four archetypes and include (the archetypes and SU-BARBIE-A as a prelude to VOTD). Although it would be a...little expensive it would be a wonderful collectors item. And the electra heart album shoot is just...gorgeous. anyway lana and marina both have the same issue with having so much potential with merch, collectors items, physical releases and they just dont do it). apologize for my rant this has been on my mind for years LOL.
  6. first thing i thought of was arianas 34 + 35 even though it’s off just by a few seconds LMAO (no hate i loved the song and video). i love seeing bts (wish we got to see more of that with the electra heart archetypes series since visuals were such an important aspect of the album and story). but it’s much nicer when it’s its own video, especially when the artist and director explain what they’re going for! what certain scenes allude to, what they took inspo from, etc. and i think it also helps content wise in eras, especially between releases of singles or even albums.
  7. imagine having is this happiness and flipside on vinyl..can her and her team make like a 7 inch single record for them plz while theyre at it with the UO repressing??
  8. Wrong thread LMFAO. but COVID cases have been rising like crazy here and my friend got the virus over the summer so that was..something
  9. she looks so hot omg
  10. It's so nice to see her go for a different hair color after so many years of dark brown! I think the shade of blonde is a little too dull and gray for her skin tone and doesn't bring out her face as much, but she looks beautiful nonetheless. (And I mean no harm in my comment I just think richer colors in lana's hair, like her auburn hair for example, really make her pop!) Also, some people have way too much time on their hands to constantly criticize the weight of women in the industry and just in general. It's gross.
  11. honestly my view of lana is really changed by this entire situation. ill always appreciate her as an artist and for all the amazing things she’s produced... but as a person i have just become incredibly disappointed with her ignorance specifically in regard to her letter and her responses to it and instead of recognizing her name dropping artists for no good reason was the issue (well that and the shitty way it was written) as if those artists have never faced any criticism themselves, she does it AGAIN with twigs instead of apologizing and recognizing her mistake. i understand her anger that her words were twisted but her defensiveness as if she did nothing wrong comes off terribly. also she can post about asking her fans to support the Hollywood Bowl but can’t use the same platform to spread awareness about the current situation regarding George Floyd and the issue of racism in america? yikes...
  12. literally what the actual fuck is going on with her
  13. Hello!! This is a custom piece made by @/lebronxdeluxe on instagram I believe. He commented awhile ago on a post about he made that piece (and another one she sang at a show). I hope that helps!!!
  14. i haven't felt the same connection with lana and her music since honeymoon and it kinda makes me sad but i still appreciate her newer works and believe shes an incredible artist despite some of her crackhead antics with this poetry book!
  15. I really like the concept of the album cover (her being on a boat with california burning in the background and a painted sky) but the final product is just... not it. The graphic design and compositioning is sloppy, but maybe it will grow on me. Anyways, we're at least getting the album which is exciting! I really hope it was worth the agonizing wait.

    i guess it's getting a theatre release? https://www.amctheatres.com/movies/k-12-60914
  17. the audacity she has to split the set list into LOVE/FEAR and not have fear & loathing but have HTBAH instead... although im happy to see AYS? make its comeback
  18. I'll give credit to the Electra Heart era where it's due the concept and aesthetic was iconic and innovative, making a character created by female archetypes and insprations (marilyn, britney, 60's movies, etc.) to dwelve into understanding identity was a great idea, but it was poorly excuted. The good excutions come from the album shoot with Casper Balslev, her tumblr, and the early videos of the era but once the P&C video came about the whole archetypes thing was nonexistant lmao. also who the fuck thought it was a good idea to put hypocrates (HTBAH and Radioactive too if you count the US Version) between VOTD and F&L...
  19. the only thing i'd ever want is the ability to choose themes based on lana's eras (like DG with Marina's)
  20. She looked so good in the video (especially the red dress.. whew!) and baby is a nice song. Gave me some hype for this era!
  21. No disrespect to Lana's backup dancers, but honestly this really makes me miss her solo performances. I'm not sure what it is, but I feel so much more connected to her when she's performing alone like this. Also, How to Disappear is absolutely gorgeous.
  22. Nicole and Neil are always able to bring out the essence of the album and really complete the era. When I think about those particular eras their photos are what pop into my head first. Chuck, I think really did well with things Lizzy Grant related and smaller projects with Lana (Singles, Tropico, etc.) are okay, but when it comes to an album photoshoot I always feel like there's something missing. When I look at the Lust for Life photoshoot, I'm really only reminded of it being bts of the Love video. Where as Paradise, does give off the essence of that era despite it being a bts of Blue Jeans. And I still feel like Lana should have gone full circle and brought Nicole back for the LFL photoshoot, considering it referencing the btd shoot. Plus she's able to incorporate other objects without the whole photo becoming clunky. Anyways! If Chuck is doing the album shoot, with the photos taken so far this era, I have some hope that it will turn out alright. The colors seem a bit more Earthy, which I can see fitting with the music.
