"I believe in the country America used to be.
I believe in the person I want to become."
She was interested in metaphysics because "it bridged the gap between God and science" so she seems to be looking for reconciliation

Also she described herself as "spiritual" recently and talked about believing in psychics which doesn't exactly strike one as atheistic in the strictest sense

I have read Krauss's book and his "nothing" is not exactly nothing. It is absence of spacetime and energy but it presupposes the existence of physical laws that turn this "nothing" into spacetime and energy. He basically replaced God with physical laws, the existence of which he doesn't explain. I think Lana is curious about how physicists unveil the mystery of our existence but feels there may be more than they know or imagine.

This is extremely interesting to me.

I think that she do believe in a spiritual higher power, and I think that she appreciate the comfort of cult, like having defined symbols and practice, is kind of comforting. But I'm not sure that she's that interested in the traditional aspect of Christianity, particularly Catholicism as she was raised, in regards of her views on some sexuality aspects and as you said her interest in metaphysics, and the lectures she's been recently promoting. But she did said recently several times that she definitely was a seeker. So maybe she's just trying to understand everything in order to consolidate and understand better her faith? But I read on twitter that a fan gave her a "our father" bracelet and she asked to be said one for her.

Obviously, I am nowhere near speaking in her name and I might have completely misunderstood the whole point. I have so much to say about this but I fear it's too personal!

I've always assumed from some of her past quotes and a lot of her lyrics that she believes in God, but the lectures she's been promoting on the Honeymoon hotline have strong atheist undertones. The book A Universe from Nothing and the lecture by Lawrence Krauss are basically all about how the universe was naturally able to create itself out of nothing, and that no divine power or god was needed for it. He talks about religion and the flawed thinking behind a higher power in his lecture and he's also an atheist activist. I just thought it was interesting that Lana would recommend these things to her fans, because I've always seen her as a believer. Like even though she could just be interested in the science of it, the reason behind the research has a political bent to it and the lectures themselves don't shy away from criticizing the idea of a god.

Yes Lana is declining- She is declining to pay any attention to the haters
She is declining to pay any attention to those that want her to be what she is not (she said this right in the lyric)
She is declining to pay any attention to those that want her to go backwards not forwards
She is declining to be unhappy in her personal life
She is declining to play the #1 celebrity teenage fame game
She is declining all negativity and
She is declinng to sweat the small stuff

She is happy. I am happy she is declining all of the above.

to quote the Sinatra song "She did it HER way"

Long live Lana. The Trailblazer. Where everyone follows her lead and if you don't like it you can beat it, beat it baby.

I think she took a hit in the HM era just because she ditched having any sort of persona and the music was received as well on a widespread level, but I think she's about to start flourishing again. She's obviously been putting more effort into her looks lately (something we honestly haven't seen since BTD even tho I loved the simplicity of UV) and I think she's gonna make a little comeback. I don't know what lit the fire under her ass, but I'm glad she's been looking cute and going out more. I'm curious to see how this relays over to her music.

does anyone know if she still writes with a guitar? cuz she should.

    in my opinion:
I think Born To Die was her losing what she thought to be her "soulmate/true love" and her struggling to move on/find a light at the end of the tunnel. (Dark Paradise, Without You, Summertime Sadness)

Ultraviolence is a mix of her finding a new love (although not as intense as the one she experienced on BTD) and then losing that love too, but this time she doesn't seem to dwell on it as much as she did on BTD. (Brooklyn Baby, Cruel World, Black Beauty, Is This Happiness, Flipside)

Then I see Honeymoon as her experiencing a different kind of love where she's just obsessed with and fascinated by this person/interested in just having fun with them rather than actually being in love with them. (Religion, Freak, MTWBT)

It's a nice development really bc with each album she becomes more in control of her affections and less vulnerable to heartbreak

I don't know if a thread like this has been opened before but I am really interested in Lana's outlook on love. Judging from her lyrics, it seems like she has found "the one", a person that you could potentially describe as her soulmate but it somehow didn't work out. I remember this one interview very vividly where she claimed to "always sing about the same goddamn person so she'll love him forever". I am wondering how she deals with this feeling of having lost her true love and I am interested in finding more of these kind of excerpts . Maybe we could collect them here?

Hopefully more leaks happen soon. Currently these songs are in the hands of people:

Jump rope, Schizo, Night Mime (final/untagged), Gold Digging Love (Studio)

Her videos are so good. The only thing that even looked tight budgeted was the part when the room was half full of tears but whatever.

LOVED the video. Perfect segway into "Dollhouse" with the ending. As always, aesthetic on point.

I really am shocked at how many videos we've got from this album. I know she said she wanted a video for every song, but lots of artists say that and it never happens. Who knows, maybe Mel will come through. I would DIE for another double video with "Tag You're It" and "Milk and Cookies". That could be such an epic video.

Here's an intersting article on Hello Giggles - "My life according to Lana Del Rey"

"I didn’t realize it until later, but I kind of thrive on heartbreak just as much as I do on love itself. Love and the pain of loving have always been at my core, and that’s exactly why Lana Del Rey’s music provides the perfect soundtrack to my life."

The song Carmen relates to me on a personal level. The lyric "tying cherry knots, smiling, doing party favors" makes me tear up all the time. Lana has just brought out more of me, I'm not sure how to explain it. I'm just so thankful for the music that she makes because it gets me through some tough times. Thanks to Lana, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov is now my favorite book

And thanks to Lana my daddy issues and kink have taken over

I love reading these stories about how Lana has given people courage to be themselves. <3

Her music has helped me do the same. Watching how she shocks, provokes, and enrages people without ever meaning to ...it reminds me of my own life on a much smaller scale. I think a lot of people live this way. The world thinks it doesn't need us because we don't "fit," and I used to be convinced it was true. But now I believe the world needs us to not fit. It needs us to question the status quo. In small life-changing ways, or huge world-altering ones.

Mainly she just introduced me to a whole new sound of music, and she gave me an appreciation for music videos. Before her, I didn't really care about music videos, but since I knew how into visuals she was, I watched her videography and got a real appreciation for that art form. But the main thing is that she opened my eyes to her unique sound, and she gave me a curiosity about discovering more great artists with uncommon sounds.

I apologise in advance about how much fake deep and arrogant this is going to sound, which is a shame considering how dead serious I am, this is the realest talk ever for me and I'm genuine.

I've thought really deeply about this, I've had this thread in mind for days, and actually, I can count people that physically changed my life on the fingers of one hand and she's most definitely amongst them. I realised that in the 8 months that I known about her, I've wrote a twenty pages academic essay on her, I've read several books and watched countless movies when I dislike doing both just because of her, I have 5000 pictures of her on my computer meticulously classed, and I entirely based my first public exhibition of my career as an artist on her and the ghosts of her. My essay also is leading me directly to my thesis subject which hasn't been researched yet so she may be at the origin of my potential career success. And yes, on top of that, she changed my very tastes, she made me appreciate coffee when I despise it and I switched from Coca Cola to Pepsi, Diet Mountain Dew is now my favourite drink ever, she made me discover that I have kind of a daddy kink but for women and because of her intense femininity she made me realise I was definitely bisexual and she taught me to accept it by teaching me to unapologetically accept who I am. I've never, in my entire life, related to someone that much. This is for another thread but it blows my mind how different yet strikingly similar we are. The most ironical part for me is that I hated her with a passion back in 2012, I remember despising how cliché and plastic and "tumblr hipsterical grunge" she sounded and looked, but in December 2014 I was looking for a subject of research for my essay for my course at uni on fans and amateurs experts, and out of pure sheer genuine curiosity I decided out of the blue to do the experiment of "taking the place of a Lana Del Rey fan" and see how it would go, as for example I have an incredible, extreme fascination for the pictures of fans kneeling in front of the H&M adverts. Needless to say, about 30 pages into Lanalysis I was so hooked that I dreamt about her constantly. I remember, I think I became a fan the exact second she points the microphone at the crowd crying in the chorus in the Video Games Vicar Street video. It was like touching her soul. I started watching and listening to her music and interviews compulsively and was so taken aback by the quantity as well as quality of it, it made me respect her so much as a creative hard working person. I'm so glad I've been through this. She's too famous for me, she'll never know I exist and I probably will never go to a concert of hers because I couldn't bear the preparation emotionally, but it's cool, I prefer to keep the perfect idea of her I have in mind and for some reasons I honestly can't explain I'm extremely seriously in love with both her and the idea of her. I've never been a fan of any """famous popstar""" before. This is still so new for me, and so delightful, I think that one of the biggest things she changed is my acceptance towards my own tastes, like I'm *mostly* still ashamed to say I'm a fan of hers and I really don't look like a lipster at all for whatever that means, but I used to dislike pop and charts music by default just because it was mainstream and I facepalm at my old self every time I have the extreme pleasure of listening  to practically any of the around 500 songs of hers I now have in my library.

I'm a very lambda fan, really the basic fangirl, but I know for a crystal clear fact that without her I would never have had the balls to accept that it's not necessarily something to be ashamed of and that it can be turned into raw, pure creative and artistic energy. God, I'm so thankful for her existence

She's influenced me a lot actually. She was the start of my departure from pop stars to start exploring other genres of music. She helped me a lot through my depression and helped me feel less alone. She inspired me to explore more art, writing, songwriting, music, etc. She really showed me how much more thought, creativity, personality, personal control, etc. could go into music in general compared to the average pop star just singing whatever song someone gave them. I feel like I'm missing a lot more but the point is, she's changed me significantly.

    Lana helped me realize:

-It's possible to be strongly influenced by past generations/their respective cultures and infuse them into the modern day rather than just appreciate them in a stale, nostalgic way as an outside observer

-Your contradictions, motives, and the assumptions people make about you don't always have to be explained or clarified. People may attribute them to your intelligence and depth of character, or just accuse you of being completely fake, but ultimately it's their issue and has nothing to do with you

-Reinventing yourself in the eyes of others is always possible, as people forget easily and their judgements are usually pretty fickle

-The classic adage that you should be careful what you wish for (I don't know if Lana 'regrets' becoming famous but it's obvious that much of it has been a huge disappointment and source of struggle for her)

-And that getting really obvious plastic surgery doesn't always make you turn out ugly.
