For me, HM produced some of my favorite Lana songs to date (The Blackest Day is in my top 5). I really loved the juxtaposition of the "muddy trap" songs and the cinematic ones. This more or less felt like a little art project she did rather than an era, if anyone gets what I mean. The only songs I didn't like were the last three songs, esp. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Swan Song was good (unpopular opinion, I know) and 24 was cool but I never go back to listen to it.

This record is very much a mood record so I don't listen to it often, but when I do, it's glorious

Also Chuck/Neil had a few beautiful photos from this era (minus the cover)

Their debut is a year old in 2 days, could it be that we get another record this year?

Rotten Teeth feat. Kate Nash is such a banger. The bridge is the best part of the song.

on the topic of bjork, I feel like something akin to her recent album vulnicura, would blend well with lana's sonic aesthetic. Something modern but classical. (also I would love it if Lana worked with Arca [one of the producers of vulnicura], but that's just me.)
The thing I am curious about is if she should avoid writing LDR5 with Rick Nowels? I love them as a creative duo and I don't want to see their friendship or artistic partnership dissolve; but maybe it is time she works with some new co-writers in order to further experiment.

Thanks for making me think about the song in a different way - but I still think it's not an effective metaphor nor a particularly thoughtful one. And did she really have to include lines like "you're so ghetto"?

I went last year and it was the best weekend of my life. But yeah each headliner performs at the end of each day. I was hoping she'd be headlining this year because there were rumours, but I was doubtful because she hasn't been doing much lately. But my prayers were answered

the "religion" hate is weird. it's classic lana and could have been catchy enough to be a single (RIP).

you know, i was listening to honeymoon for the first time in a long time (except not in order) & it was really beautiful. i realized i love a lot of the songs just...not all on the same record together. they are too similar in pace.

Agreed. Wish she played it when she opened for Grimes on tour.

I think more than anything, the video for "Freak" validates this entire interpretation.

i agree, when i saw the freak video all i could think of was the source family. when father john is talking to himself in the beginning and halfway through i think of charles manson, but idk, when her and FJM were dancing it was very identical to TSF

Nice theory but I feel like some people here are overinterpretating a bit because they want things to be like they imagine. There are things you could see as references, but I highly doubt that Lana did a record about this Family. Like the tree thibg ... this are not some super-rare trees or any kind of unique arrangement. Its some kind of common tree. Or the stretched out arms ... I think you really start to see the things you want to see at this point.

Btw I don't want to interfere with anyone's spiritual believs, but let's not forget that in the end it was a group of almost only white, heterosexual people from the middle/upperclass who idolized a man who left his family and surrounded himself with young women.
And as far as you can tell from her statements, Lanas cult-experiences, with whatever sect/cult, wasnt a positive one.
  19. altpapa liked a post in a topic by CriesMarmalade in What musical direction should Lana go in for LDR5?
I think Lana's jazzy tangents are beautiful, the only problem is that they're too short and often just tacked onto slow or boring pop songs in an attempt to liven them up. If Lana would really follow through with an attempt at jazz I think it would sound amazing. Her free-form vocals are by far her most emotionally genuine and rarely fall into this monotonous 'I'm too cool to give a fuck' tone that she often does.

I would kind of be interested in hearing something like this! If I personally had to pick I would prefer a more rock infused album but this concept is intriguing.

I really liked the video, especially the underwater part. I kinda teared up ngl... but after I've watched almost 10 times now, i realize that the music doesn't even go fit in with the video. I expected a lot of death in the video, and more Jonestown.

If people want a video so bad why don't they just take "Clair De Lune" out of the underwater part and just add Art Deco?
