  1. I don't think it's fair to claim that someone is not a true fan because they don't care for one of Lana's albums. You can be the biggest fan of an artist and still not like everything they've put out-- it's great if you do like all of Lana's material, but it's a stretch to say that everyone must like it simply because they call themselves a fan. Basically, I think it's fantastic that you love HM and see a lot of beauty in it, but you can't shame others for not sharing your tastes. Please be respectful of the fact that we're here because we're fans of Lana, and we're not all going to have the same opinions and preferences
  2. Truthfully, HM is my least favorite Lana album, but I still think the album and era had some redeeming qualities. Probably my biggest qualm with it is that everything still felt as if it were in a transitional phase-- the songs didn't quite sound *finished*, the videos seemed thrown together, the visuals weren't as dynamic as they have been for past eras, and Lana never seemed to settle on a certain style/mood/aesthetic for the era, as she had previously. That being said, I think the HM era had some high points! I felt like the unreleased Honeymoon video was an extremely beautiful, and an interesting route that I wish Lana had explored further. The V Magazine and Marfa Journal shoots were some of my all-time favorites, and the songs from HM are beautiful, even if they are enjoyed in small doses due to a bit of monotony and repetitiveness, imo. Also, Lana served some beautiful looks this era (the blonde!!!!!) and some gorgeous stylings (whatever event this was from: )! And, despite being a bit of a side-note to the HM era, Lana's little Instagram videos have been so sweet and cute All in all, I think the best word to describe my opinion of the HM album/era is solid. After a staggeringly incredible run of albums by Lana since 2010, HM didn't blow minds or achieve any levels of perfection, but it wasn't bad by any means-- not a great hit, but not a miss, either. I think it may have provided a bit of respite for Lana, who's been producing knockout albums and dealing with all sorts of publicity ever since Video Games hit it big-- this era was calm, cool, and maybe even sedate-- but, as they say, "solve et coagula", and hopefully LDR5 is a bit more exciting and dynamic
  3. With the HM era seemingly coming to a close, and the new age of LDR5 being ushered in, I thought it would be a good time to discuss what our favorite parts of the much-maligned HONEYMOON era were! So, what were your favorite: Photoshoots...? Songs...? Videos...? Other moments/parts...? Let's take some time to appreciate this era and all it had to offer! I was going to post this as a status, but thought it deserved a thread. Mods, please let me know if this is unnecessary!
  4. @@Elle, queen of "solve et coagula" Now that the thread's revamped, I may actually take the time to read what gets posted here-- I'm getting really excited for the new album!
  5. Aside from the others mentioned, a working title for AKA was to "Nevada" (which, I don't remember how, had some tie to 5 Points that authenticated it), and a local (NY) article sometime before or near the recording/release of AKA referred to the album as "God Bless America", which she would also consider for BTD.
  6. Her song "In the Beginning" just played on my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist, and I'm absolutely in love In this song, at least, she gives me a lot of Marissa Nadler and Mariee Sioux vibes and it's so gorgeous I'm glad some of LB has taste
  7. Does anyone still have that link to Kali's unreleased (Drunken Babble + all the other stuff)? I don't feel like searching through all 41 pages of the thread to find it I've yet to listen to any of her work besides Por Vida, which totally blew my mind. So, might as well enjoy her back catalogue while we wait
  8. According to David Kahne, there is! He also stated, strangely enough, that there's a final version of White Pontiac Heaven that he produced, which is odd due to it being an acapella version of ARH. Of course, it could always be a reused title-- but who knows, besides David and Lana (if I'm right, this info came from an e-mail conversation between the good sis @#glimmeringdarling and David, several years ago )
  9. If it weren't for OTTR, I probably would not be a Lana fan right now. I don't recall if it was the *first* Lana song I ever heard-- I think that honor may belong to "Video Games"-- but it was certainly one of the first, and it's the song I fell in love with. It rocked my world, and for a long time, I was very afraid to approach the rest of Lana's catalogue, because I was assured that I'd be let down-- what in God's name could be better than such a dynamic, unique track as OTTR? It made me love her, and still exemplifies why I love her. It's at turns fast, punchy and sassy, and just as quickly, full of longing, devotion and wistfulness. It's a rollercoaster ride in five minutes, and is the quintessential Lana Del Rey track, saturated in the mythos that's now viewed as inseparable from Lana; as you listen, you get completely immersed in her unique universe, brimming with crime, good girls gone bad and the bad men who enable them, drinks and party dresses, Chateau Marmonts and glimmering darlings, all meeting in one wild show, a three-ring circus with nearly everything but good family values. By the end, you're starstruck. It's true magic in music, and I challenge Lana, or any other artist for that matter, to even *attempt* to create a track this incredible again. I wish I could ramble endlessly about it, but all I'll say now is that I believe it's Lana's best, nearly uncontested. It ranks among my very, very favorite Lana songs, and it's definitely a shining example of Lana at her absolute best. I love OTTR in a way that I don't love any other Lana song. It's magic. It really is.
  10. life imitates art: kings of prediction tbh wait @Elle can we still make dumb jokes about things that are OBVIOUSLY not in the song, or would you rather us not? xx
  11. Honestly, as long as nothing leaks that will harm Lana in any way, I love the speculation and guessing... and even fake "insiders" It keeps me excited and ready for the new track/album/era, and is all in good fun, so long as no actual sensitive info or audio leaks. So, if any of y'all have audio/info, I hope you keep it to yourselves, and let Lana get the privilege of releasing her own art, on her own terms. Meanwhile, I hope everyone keeps making guesses at what the new track will sound like! I'm so ready did I write this.... no, as much as I would love a surf-noir/hawaiian glam metal/AKA+UV album (it would be absolutely perfect imo), I don't want Lana to stop whatever direction she's going in. It's her art, and one of these days, I might have to accept that she's probably never going back to the Lizzy Grant sound... as hard as it is
  12. this is my favorite post on this whole godforsaken website. untouchable 5 who
  13. I still keep that snippet in my itunes so I can pretend that Lana went surf-noir again and that the Honeymoon era was all just a bad dream HM is not THAT bad, but ngl I'm hoping this new album is not similar... i mean idk i don't want it to be soulless pop bops either, so... unless this heaux whips out another masterpiece like AKA/BtD/Paradise/UV (everything in her discography except HM ) i'm basically setting myself up for disappointment
  14. Although you all know my soft spot is Lana's AKA era, I have to say that BtD is an absolute powerhouse and masterpiece in ways that nothing Lana has created before or since has been. Between the genre-breaking sound, the lyrics, the visuals, the persona, and the overarching themes that weave their way through everything produced in the BtD era, Lana totally rewrote what could be done with pop music. She is a trailblazer, and I think the world still hasn't realized her full impact. No other artist, so far as I know, has created concepts and such a cohesive world with their music as Lana has, save for the legendary David Bowie-- some would consider it sacrilege to compare the two, but as a fan of his as well, I see many parallels-- much like him, Lana attempted genres/sounds that didn't stick or weren't successful in her early career (although they should have been: refer to Sirens in the lesser and AKA in the major), before finally settling into something entirely unique that finally caught critical attention (both positive and negative, but scrutiny and attention en masse, nonetheless). "Born to Die" was much like Bowie's "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars", imo-- she seemed to appear fully formed, a mysterious anachronism in modern pop, an almost cartoonish femme fatale/siren in the best way possible-- the same way that Bowie's Ziggy was an exaggerated caricature of a rock star, and didn't seem to be remotely the same person that had been putting out psychedelic pop and folk music just a few years earlier. Mind you, I'm not making this comparison for nothing-- my point is, Lana's contribution to pop music, and music in general, has yet to be realized by the general public, especially with Born to Die. Will she ever top it? I don't know. However, I think much as David Bowie is lauded as a trailblazer and innovator today, Lana will one day be hailed as the same, if for nothing else than this album. Outstanding, all in all. My weave never came back after my first time with OTTR.
  15. Backwoods Alabama Rollerderby i wish waiting for the second coming of lizzy grant
  16. Cleaned this up just a little by authenticating alternate titles for the "Rehab" demo of "For K, Pt. 2" and the "O Say Can U See" demo. Also, I could still use the help of anyone who can work with me to solidify some information in this post! Any members who are knowledgeable about demos/unreleased/alt. versions/general Lana knowledge, shoot me a PM if you can help!
  17. FINALLY did the Unreleased Song Sorter! The results weren't *entirely* accurate, but that's partially because I did it over the course of several days, and depending on how I'm feeling at the moment, my tastes are pretty different. (Also having some issues w/computer audio atm, so that's definitely a big factor, lol) However, it got my top 25 pretty dang close!: 1. Put Me in a Movie 2. Bel Air 3. Off to the Races 4. Pin Up Galore 5. Pawn Shop Blues 6. Puppy Love 7. In Wendy 8. Kill Kill 9. The Man I Love 10. Trash Magic 11. Brooklyn Baby 12. Yayo (AKA) 13. Video Games 14. Ride 15. Shades of Cool 16. Junky Pride 17. A Star for Nick 18. Every Man Gets His Wish 19. Wayamaya 20. National Anthem 21. Put Me in a Movie (No Kung Fu Demo) 22. Disco 23. Like Your Friend Did (NLMG Concept) 24. The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA 25. The End of the World Gotta say, it's pretty spot on! There's a couple I might not have placed in the top 25 (Ride, EMGHW, The End of the World) and a few I *would've* (Prom Song, Florida Kilos, Oooh Baby), but still pretty cool! I'm definitely going to use this as a framework to rate them myself
  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LANA DEL RAY! Seven years ago today, Lana's official debut album was released. May it continue to "raise us up". (I'm a little late, lol. Also, credit to adoringlana on tumblr for these beautiful gifs!)
