  1. The last album of Lana's that I would consider "jumped around a lot" in terms of sound was a certain 2010 release that's very, very important to me... it's AKA pt. 2, ladies :rollin: :rollin: Praying that LFL delivers that kind of diversity. I'm hyped again
  2. Maybe I'm in the minority with this opinion, but this show wasn't really my thing Lana looked gorgeous, but in my opinion, she seemed distracted/bored with the material, and didn't seem as warm and open as she has lately. I'm sure the mic problems weren't helping at all, but I am just a little bit underwhelmed.
  3. That's true, lol. I happen to be a big fan of 60's girl groups, which is why I made the connection-- then again, I don't think anyone will miss any of the song's meaning without knowing that It's a cute lil nod, though
  4. I wanna say it's a little nod to the Shangri-Las/girl group vibe she's going for-- the Shangri-Las' famous hit "Leader of the Pack" is about a girl's motorcyclist boyfriend who dies in a crash. Plus, she semi-references the Angels' hit "My Boyfriend's Back" in the lyrics.
  5. I absolutely loved it-- to me, this perfectly embodies Lana's concept of "retro sensibility, with a futuristic flair." Both the more literal callbacks (Lana's outfit, the TV performance-esque setup at the beginning, plus backup dancers) and the more subtle (the sweetness and simplicity, the peace sign imagery) really hearken back to the sixties, while keeping a grip on Lana's current message of hope and stability in today's world. I also appreciated the connecting sequence to Love-- my theory, like others that've posted here, is that the Love video is what's taking place in her mind as she's performing in the LFL video, ostensibly for TV. I think she and Abel represent almost god-like characters (I don't feel that they're dead, necessarily), and their jump off the sign is not suicide, but descending "down to Earth" to bring their message to the youth of America. It's almost a Ziggy Stardust-type setup, imo-- an alien/supernatural singer comes to Earth to spread a message of peace and love to a troubled and receptive group of young people. I really like the concept, and I'm enjoying seeing how the various themes Lana's presented thus far (1960s, witchcraft, peace/love, space) are tying together. All in all, I think it's a very lovely treatment, and it's really made me appreciate the song and era more. I'm finally, officially excited for what's to come! (also, I think it's too common for people today to claim things are "cringey" just because they're whimsical, silly, or fun-- you're welcome to your opinion, but I find little touches like the ribbon boat to be really cute. There's nothing wrong with having a little bit of wonder, and nothing wrong with Lana doing something lighthearted and sweet, even if it borders on childish, imo. We could all use some lightening up, I think )
  6. I just thought-- could anyone get in touch with Kali and ask her? It's kind of trivial, but I don't know how easy it is to get through to her.
  7. Dang it It sounds so sweet and 70's
  8. Does anyone know what song Kali samples in "Dream"? The line sampled is "what do you do when you find your life is a dream?" but searching those lyrics only brings me back to "Dream". I don't think it's Kali singing, it has to be from another song. Also, @@BLURRYFACE, definitely listen to the Por Vida EP! In my opinion, there's not a single filler/weak song. "Lottery" is the one that got me hooked. It's a good time to become a fan, as her debut album is on its way!
  9. Kali Uchis - Drunken Babble My first listen, and I love it
  10. Flaunt is the shoot I always knew I needed, but didn't expect Lana to deliver. She'll be hard-pressed to ever top such a perfect melding of present-day Lana and the past's Lizzy Grant, in my opinion. In other words, the Flaunt shoot looked like a result of Lizzy's Myspace crawling from its grave, tapping Lana on the shoulder, and reminding her that Lizzy Grant never really died and is always going to be a part of her
  11. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS SONG BUT I LOVE 80'S BOPS (including 99 Luftballons by Nena) SO I LISTENED AND I LOVE IT THANKS, KING
  12. Madonna - Like a Virgin "like a virgin touched for the very first time like a virgin feel your heartbeat next to mine"
  13. The Carpenters - Superstar "don't you remember you told me you loved me, baby? you said you'd be coming back this way again, baby"
  14. Station to Station - David Bowie "the return of the thin white duke... throwing darts in lover's eyes"
  15. In my opinion, Prisoner and Lust for Life are both good, solid tracks. Stargirl, however, is so unprecedented in Lana's catalog-- the energy and vibe it gives off are so otherworldly and so unlike the things she's done before, and I think that's due to the Weeknd's touch on it. I hail it as one of my favorite Lana songs and a completely transcendental minute and some change. Breathtaking x
  16. Hm, you might be right. When the demo CD leaked, though, I was almost sure either Lisandro or someone knowledgeable said that the only difference between Ruby and the original PMIAM demo was that Ruby was higher quality. I could definitely be wrong, though.
  17. I'm almost completely sure they're the same thing. They sound a bit different when I listen to them back-to-back, but I think that's only because Ruby is a pretty substantial audio quality improvement from the original leak.
  18. Ooh, I feel something, baby I've been feeling you so hard Got a figure like a pin-up Ooh, baby love, my baby love I'm standing at the crossroads of love Rescue me Some moments that I've had In this age of grand illusion Empties lined along the porch You know why I don't want to see you These little stanzas all sound very separate, lol. This is fun, though!
  19. Has anyone here tried to compile an exhaustive timeline of Lana's recordings/photoshoots/performances/etc.? Lana's past has the tendency to be confusing, so it seems to me that it could help us sort things out if everything we know was sequenced in a way. I'm attempting to put one together, but I imagine someone with more knowledge could do it much more adequately. (@@evilentity, you were my first thought )
  20. There are so many songs from Sirens/YLM/FTE that I get stuck in my head/sing nearly every day-- In Wendy, You Mister, More Mountains, A Star for Nick, Drive By....
  21. THIS IS SOME OF THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD IN SUCH A LONG TIME Stevie and Lana both rank in my top 5 favorite artists of all time-- of the 5, one is dead and one doesn't do collabs, so this is incredible. Two of my favorite icons, together. I'm shook in every sense of the word
